- Duane C. "Coondog" Coenen, 73, Bonduel passed away on Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, in Appleton. Born Jan. 29, 1937, in Kaukauna, he was the son of the late Raymond J. and Lorinda (Turkow) Coenen. He grew up in the Town of Center and attended Freedom High School, then served with the National Guard for 6 years. He was a construction worker with Local 931/330, the last 25 years prior to retirement with Boldt Construction, also farmed for many years in the Towns of Center and Black Creek at 5 Corners. In 1996, he retired and moved to Shawano Lake. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, golfing, fishing, listening to country and western and polka music and polka dancing, building with wood, playing cards and traveling the U.S.A. He and Rosemary became snowbirds and spent the last 8 winters in Florida. He married Rosemary Otto on Sept. 6, 1958, in Black Creek and was a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church, Cecil, the Laborers Local 931/330 over 50 years, serving as Sergeant of Arms and on the Executive Board for many years.
Duane is survived by his wife, Rosemary, of 52 years; daughters, Connie (Wayne) Stamper of Laona, Karen Wendt of Seymour, Cindy (Steve) Nysse of Freedom, Tina (Paul) Wenninger of Seymour; a son, Gary (Tammy) Coenen of Appleton; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is further survived by three brothers, Ken (Lois) Coenen and Donald Coenen of Appleton, Kermit (Joan) Coenen of Crandon; a sister, Linda (Eugene) Koponen of Montana; brothers-in-law, William (Kay) Otto of Black Creek, Bruce Otto of Combined Locks; a sister-in-law, Maryann Otto of Clintonville, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Shawano. Visitation is at the church on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral.
