- Donald W. Coenen, age 78, of Appleton, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at his residence. Don was born on May 23, 1932, in Kaukauna, Wisconsin, the son of Raymond J and Lorinda (Turkow) Coenen. On September 5, 1953, he was united in marriage to Jo Ann Flunker. Don worked for Valley Contractors for over 44 years retiring in 1994.
He was a faithful member of Zion United Church of Christ in Dale. He was a volunteer at the Dale Food Pantry. Don enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening, golfing, and playing cards. He was also a loyal and avid Packers fan.
He is survived by his brothers: Kenneth (Lois) Coenen, Appleton; Kermit (Joan) Coenen, Crandon; one sister, Linda (Gene) Koponen, Montana; brothers-in-law, Gene (Fran) Flunker, Menasha; Robert (Audrey) Flunker, Appleton; and Willard (Betty) Flunker, Appleton; sisters-in-law, Jerelyn (Daniel) Grunwald, Appleton; and Rosie Coenen, Shawano; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Besides his parents, Don is preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann (2009); son, Thomas (1987); and brother, Duane Coenen (2010).
A funeral service for Don will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Zion United Church of Christ, W9815 State Hwy. 96, Dale, with Rev. Jim Deckert officiating. Family and friends may call at Borchardt & Moder Funeral Home Friday evening from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. and again directly at church Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Dale Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be directed to the Dale Food Pantry and Zion United Church of Christ.
