McCarthy, Ardell C. Ardell was called to Heaven at the age of 83, after a brief bout with cancer.
Ardell will always be remembered by her children as being a "stay at home mom." She took pride in keeping her house clean, having meals together as a family and tending to the garden. She had an amazing "green thumb" which showed in her vegetable and flower garden. Mom spent countless hours sewing, knitting and crocheting. She also enjoyed going with dad to the hunting land they had in Bowler, Wis.
Three years after Ardell's husband passed away, Peggy returned from the Caribbean and she and mom moved together to a new home. She again had a beautiful garden which attracted a variety of birds that enjoyed the food and water that mom made sure was there for them. The neighbors were friendly and gracious to her. Mom was able to travel and see a part of life that she never knew before. Peggy's friends became mom's friends and they visited with her regularly.
Ardell was a member of St. Pius X Parish for over 40 years and was a member of the Catholic Knights for over 50 years. For the last year and a half she belonged to St. Joseph Parish. Ardell was preceded in death by her loving husband, Emmet S. McCarthy on August 13, 1997, her parents, Ignatius and Mary (Goehler) Bourassa, 3 brothers, Willard (Myrtle) Bourassa, Kenneth (Ellen) Bourassa, Leo (Ivy) Bourassa; and her three sisters, Laverne Bourassa, Adis (James) VanGompel and Elberta (Leonard) Vorpahl.
Ardell is survived by one sister, Delores Wittman and five children, Patricia (Robert) Treiber, Eagle River, Wis.; Peggy McCarthy, Appleton, Wis.; Stephen McCarthy, Shorewood, Wis.; Cathy Byrne, Appleton, Wis.; and Colleen (Tom) Thornton, Appleton, Wis.; Seven grandchildren, Shawn VanGompel, Kay Treiber, Molly Byrne, Jessica (Ben) Churchill, Michael Thornton, Anne McCarthy and Emmett McCarthy; and two great-grandchildren, Amanda Krenke and Gabrielle VanGompel.
We would like to thank all of Peggy's friends who work for Outagamie County, many of whom called her "mom" or "Mrs. Mom," for their kindness and friendship towards Ardell. She loved all of you and enjoyed every visit.
The family would also like to extend a special "thank you" to Lola and Larry Dorn who had many fun visits with mom over a "Red Dog" or two. To all the other nieces, nephews, friends, sisters-in law and brothers-in-law that visited mom or called her, we thank you for your gifts of kindness and friendship. A special thank you goes out to Helen Meidam for her friendship and compassion. And last, a heart felt "thank you" to Dr. Lee Vogel of the UW Health, Fox Valley Family Practice and the staff at Theda Care Hospice. You are angels here on earth. You allowed mom to die at home with her family and friends in dignity and grace. We thank you and pray for God's blessings upon you.
Friends and Relatives are invited to a memorial service at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 404 W. Lawrence St., on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Larry Abler officiating. There will be visitation prior to the service starting at 9:30 a.m. also at church. All are invited to a luncheon following the service at Holly Hall, at St. Joseph's Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Theda Care Hospice.
