Knapp, William F. "Bill"
William Knapp, of Pickerel, formerly of Kaukauna, age 82 years, died peacefully on April 24, 2007, with his family by his side. He was born June 16, 1924, in Fort William, Ontario, Canada to the late Edward and Edith (Ure) Knapp. Bill married Evelyn Truyman on February 21, 1946, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Kaukauna. He was a veteran of World War II and received the Bronze Star. Bill was employed at Thilmany Pulp and Paper for 43 years retiring in 1986. He coached the St. Mary basketball teams for 25 years.
Bill was a member of the Quarter Century Club at Thilmany's, Kaukauna Elk's Club, Pickerel Lake Snowmobile Club, Pickerel Lake Association and St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pickerel, where he also ushered. He enjoyed fishing, playing cribbage and was an avid sports fan. Bill loved to have family and friends at their home on Pickerel Lake.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years; Evelyn Knapp, Pickerel; children: Bruce (Bonnie) Knapp, Little Chute; Janet (Irv) Keough, Kaukauna and Paul (Mary) Knapp, Kaukauna; grandchildren: Scott (Laura) Knapp, Racine; Chris (Stacy) Knapp, Sherwood; Coreen (Gary) Wyngaaard, Kimberly; Skyler Keough, Kaukauna; Micaela (Jeremy) Wadzinski, Green Bay; Mara (Peter) Nelson, Kaukauna; Kelyn, Kendra and Riley Knapp, Kaukauna; great-grandchildren: Justin, Amanda, Sam, Emma, Owen and Amelya; brother, Robert (Elaine) Knapp, Kaukauna; brothers-in-law: Jack (Laura) Truyman, Oshkosh and Jerome (Marie) Truyman, Kaukauna; sisters-in-law: Lorraine Fuerst, Appleton and Geraldine Truyman, Appleton. Bill is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; uncle, Jack Knapp; brothers-in-law: Robert Fuerst and Benedict Truyman.
The funeral liturgy for Bill will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, 2007, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer St., Kaukauna, with Fr. Martin Fox officiating. Interment will take place at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 2 p.m. until the time of mass. A memorial fund has been established in his name.
