- RACINE - Sr. Mary Ida Sol O.P., 93, passed away at Lakeshore Manor in Racine on Saturday, January 2, 1999.
Sr. Mary Ida was born in Little Chute on May 29, 1905. Her parents were Lawrence Sol and Dinah Hierpas.
A Racine Dominican for 74 years, Sr. Mary Ida had taught in various places for the community, including in Michigan at Holy Trinity in Fowler and Nativity in Detroit. In Wisconsin, she taught at St. Charles in Burlington, St. Mary in Janesville, Holy Cross in Kaukauna, St. Bernard in Madison, St. Benedict in Milwaukee, and in Racine at Holy Name, St. Edward, St. Joseph, and St. Patrick. She served in food service at Holy Cross in Kaukauna, St. John in Little Chute, St. Luke in Plain, and in the Keen Agers Program in Appleton. She came to Siena Center in 1985, where she continued to work in community service.
Sr. Mary Ida is survived by her sister, Lorraine; nieces and nephews; and the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Joseph, Albert, Theodore, and John; and two sisters, Sr. Mary Ardina O.P. and Sr. Priscilla O.P. and the Racine Dominican.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Siena Center Chapel on Wednesday, January 6, 1999, at 1:30 p.m. with Fr. Al Metzger OSA presiding. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Highway 32. Visitation will be at Siena Center on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until time for the Liturgy. Memorials to Racine Dominican Ministry Fund have been suggested.
