      Killed by Lightning
      Peter Ver Voort of the Town of Vandenbroek Loses His Life

      Peter Ver Voort, of the Town of Vandenbroek was killed by lightning yesterday afternoon at five o'clock. He had been to Appleton and was returning from the home of his neighbor, Martin Joosten, after bringing him some article from the county seat. The houses are about forty rods apart and Mr. Ver Voort was walking and was inside his own fence when he was struck by the fire-fluid killing him instantly. The bolt made a hole in the top of his head and took off one ear. His clothing was slightly scorched. He was about sixty years of age and leaves a wife and family.
