      Mrs. Roman Salm Sr. (Marie Hietpas) 5330 N. French Rd. Appleton, age 74, died at 12:50 AM Thursday March 2, 1989. God has given us many stars to shine, many flowers to bloom, many friends to cherish, but only one mother to remember. She was born September 8, 1914. She was a 50 year member of the St. Elizabeth Society, a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, a 4 H leader. She and her husband Roman celebrated 50 years of marriage in 1985. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church.
      Survivors include her husband, Roman; six daughters and sons in-law; Doris and Bill Jansen, Little Chute; Marian and Jack VandeHey, Greenleaf; Janice and Ken VandeHey, Kaukauna; Cathy and Dick Bauer, Hortonville; Debbie and Steve Halverson, Neenah; Anne and Glenn Higgins, Appleton; seven sons and six daughters in-law; Raymond Salm, Appleton; Jim and Karen Salm, Appleton; Harold (Ringo) and Patti Salm, Kaukauna; Jerry and Lois Salm, Little Chute; Bob and Gail Salm, Appleton; Dick and Peg Salm, Little Chute; two brothers; Jake and Marie Hietpas, Little Chute; Bert and Marge Hietpas, Appleton; two sisters in-law; Vi Hietpas, Little Chute; Mary Hietpas; 50 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
      She was preceded in death by two brothers; John and Harold; and a sister, Dora; a brother in-law; Peter Vanden Heuvel. Funeral services will be 11 AM Saturday March 4, 1989, at St. John's Catholic Church, Little Chute, with Rev. Msgr. James Vanden Hogen and Rev. Raymond Hietpas officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Verkuilen Funeral Home from 4 until 9 PM Friday and from 9:30 AM Saturday until the time of services. There will be a prayer service at 7 PM Friday. A memorial fund is being established for St. St. John's Catholic Church. Marie was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and believed that faith rooted in Jesus gives a new life to all who come to him.
