School, Art H.
Art School, age 77, of Appleton, passed away peacefully with his family at his side at Cherry Meadows on February 5, 2009. Art was born on July 10, 1931, in the Town of Woodville, the son of the late Anton and Henrietta (Brochtrup) School. He graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1949. Art proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He married Marie Buss on July 28, 1951, in Appleton. Art was employed with the Wisconsin State Patrol for 29 years, retiring as a Lieutenant in 1986. In the late 1950s Art became one of the first Motorcycle State Troopers in Wisconsin. He was a past president of the Wisconsin Chapter of the F.B.I. National Academy and life member of the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Officers Association. Art was a long-time member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Appleton. He enjoyed woodworking, motorcycling, hunting and golfing.
Art is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marie School, Appleton; his son, Tom (Mary—Art's favorite daughter-in-law) School; his daughters: Debbie Sellers, Freedom, New Hampshire; Wendy (Michael) Salisbury, Appleton; his grandchildren: Stacy (S. John) Tadych, Alyssa Galles, Lindsey (Josh) Schneider, Shelby Sellers (fiance Luke Shaw), Katelyn and Ashley Salisbury; his great grandchildren: Kelsey, Kaylee, J.T. and Alex Tadych, Emily and Elizabeth Galles and Gabriel Schneider; his brothers: Louis (Arlene) School, Kaukauna; Robert (Elaine) School, Appleton; his sisters: Eleanor Oppelt, Neenah and Mary "Rita" VandeHey, Wrightstown.
Art was preceded in death by his grandson and his wife, Sarah and Tom School, Jr.; his brothers and sisters-in-law: Howard (Evelyn) School and Paul (Gladys) School; his sister and brother-in-law, Florence (Stan) Budzinski, his brother-in-law John Oppelt; and his sister-in-law, Ardie School.
The Funeral Liturgy for Art will be at 3 p.m. on Monday, February 9, 2009, at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 312 S. State Street, Appleton, with Fr. Michael K. O'Rourke officiating. The visitation will be at the church on Monday from 1 p.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name. Inurnment will take place at St. Mary Catholic Church Cemetery, Appleton.
The family would like to thank Dr. Avi Bar-Lev, the staffs at Martha Siekman Cancer Center, ThedaCare at Home Hospice and Cherry Meadows for their loving care.
