"DEATH OF A PIONEER
Died--Monday morning at 9:10 o'clock, at his home in the First Ward, John KRAMER, age sixty-eight years and five months, after a long and serious illness from cancer.
Mr. KRAMER came to Wisconsin, from Spellin, Germany, sixty years ago, settling near Hartford with his parents. He married his first wife there and where also several of his children were born. He came to Kaukauna thirty-five years ago, and was for many years the only blacksmith, with his shop on Wisconsin Avenue. He was succeeded in business nearly twenty years ago by his son Herman, and moved to the present farm where he died. In 1883 he married Miss Anne BERINGER, who with ten children, five from each wife, survive. They are Herman Kramer, Oshkosh, Mrs. J. B. NEWHOUSE of Freedom, and Barbara, Joseph, Mary, Edward, and Elizabeth Kramer at home; also two sisters, Mrs. Garth Gehring of Hartford and Mrs. John Newhouse.
Deceased was a member of the Catholic Church and the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin, in which organization he carried an insurance. The funeral was held Thursday morning at nine o'clock from Holy Cross Church the ceremonies being conducted by the Rev. Julius Rhode.
The pall bearers were O. H. Runte, Peter Feller, Mich. Wittman, Frank Rink, Richard Conlon and August Hoppe.
The following relatives from abroad were present: Mrs. Mary Adrians, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Court, Miss Lizzie Leisch, Mrs. L. Kline, John Beringer and Mrs. J. J. Jarvis and son Florence of Appleton; Mrs. J. Letz of Menasha; Mr and Mrs. Stephen, John Naberfeldt and Henry Huben of five Corners; Mr. and Mrs. A Thaiman and daughter Viola, and Henry Kramer of Oshkosh; Mrs. John Gehring and Mrs. G. Gehring, Hartford; Mr. and Mrs. John Newhouse, Miss Rose Newhouse, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Vandenberg, Mr. and Mrs. John Leisch, Nic Leisch, Mrs. William Carney, Mr. and Mrs. J. Carney and Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Gehring of Freedom; and Florence Kramer of Ironwood, Mich. and all his children mentioned above."
