- Peter P. Schommer, age 74 years, Clintonville, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at the Shawano Medical Center.
Peter Paul Schommer was born February 5, 1937, in Menasha to William and Elizabeth (Krzesiakowski) Schommer. After high school Peter entered the U.S. Marine Corp. and served from 1954 to 1957. On May 30, 1958, he was united in marriage to Michaleen A. Mathy at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Appleton. For several years Peter was employed at Kimberly-Clark Paper Mill in Appleton until 1972. The couple settled in Clintonville in 1971 and were residents of the area for the past 40 years. During that time they owned and operated the Riverside Tavern on 7th Street in Clintonville. While running the bar, Peter worked various jobs, but most importantly he was self-employed doing exterior siding and plastering for many years. He was a member of the Bricklayers & Allied Craft Workers Union and is a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, Clintonville. He enjoyed camping, campfires, fishing, hunting, most shooting sports, softball and baseball. Peter especially loved his Springer spaniels, cheering on the Brewers & Packers, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Survivors include three children: Susan T. (Dan) Gehrke of Clintonville, Paul P. (Michelle) Schommer of Pulaski, and Karen L. (Keith) Larson of Manawa. There are 5 grandchildren: Tara Peeters, Logan Haufe, Caitlin Haufe, Morgan Larson, and Hanna Schommer. There is one great-grandchild, Makena Peeters. There is one brother, Bill (Peggy) Schommer of Milwaukee, and two sisters, Joan (Floyd Bricco) Bain of Clintonville and Yvonne (Bob) Napiwocki of Neenah. He is further survived by one brother-in-law, Richard Friebel of Fremont, many other relatives and friends.
Peter is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Michaleen, on April 19, 2011, three grandchildren, Jessica, Aaron and Nicole, a brother, Ron (Exelda) Schommer and a sister, Sylvia Friebel.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 8th at 3 p.m. at the Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Clintonville. Lincoln Wood, St. Rose Parish Director, will officiate and interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Town of Matteson.
