    • Gladys Mae Ebben, age 87 of Appleton passed away on Friday, September 16, 2016 at ThedaCare Medical Center Neenah, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 8, 1929 to the late Aloysius and Alice (Garrity) Hooyman. Gladys married Robert "Bob" Ebben on August 12, 1950 at St. Mary's Church in Appleton.

      Gladys and Bob enjoyed 62 years of marriage until his passing in 2013. Together they farmed, first in Hortonville, then in the Appleton area for over 50 years. She truly enjoyed farm life. Gladys drove school bus for the Hortonville School District for 35 years. She loved the stories from the little children and enjoyed seeing them all grown up. They would greet her whenever they saw her in public and would always mention how much they enjoyed her as their bus driver. Gladys always loved the great outdoors; gardening, taking road trips, spending time with family, friends, her sisters and brothers and playing bingo and dice.

      Gladys is survived by her four children and 17 grandchildren; Jane (Steve) Becher and their four children; Stephanie (Tom) Hill of Rapid City, SD, Lindsey (Nathan) Davis of Spearfish, SD, Dustin (Sarah) Becher of Rapid City, SD, and Kyle Becher of Rapid City, SD; Robert (Peggy) Ebben of New London, WI and their four children, Melissa (Jeremy) Somers of Kenosha, WI, Rob Ebben of Pleasant Prairie, WI, Jana Christian of Hortonville, WI and Brian (Tori) Beyer of New London, WI; Jean (Scott) Nelson of Hamilton, MT and their eight children, Ryan (Bonnie) Nelson of Corvallis, MT, Matt (Dawn) Nelson of Corvallis, MT, Nicole Nelson of Spokane, WA, Benjamin (Whitney) Nelson of Hamilton, MT, Sarah (Parker) Eidum of Missoula, MT, Samantha Nelson of Hamilton, MT, Megan Nelson of Missoula, MT, Andrew (Sarah) Nelson of Anchorage, AK, Joan (Mike "Wally") Ziegler of Hortonville, WI and their daughter, Heidi (Chris) Cykana of Madison, WI and her 31 great -grandchildren.

      Gladys is further survived by two sisters, Helen Austreng of Weyauwega, WI and Mary Lou (Gene) Hegner of Hortonville, WI and a brother Ron (Audrey) Hooyman of Shawano, WI and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

      In addition to her husband Bob, she was preceded in death by her brothers; Robert and Jim Hooyman and her brother-in-law, Lyle Austreng.

      A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Friday, September 23rd, 2016 at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 1617 W. Pine St., Appleton, WI with the Rev. Dennis Ryan officiating. Visitation will be at the church beginning at 9:00 AM until the hour of service, followed by a luncheon. "Mom, Because of your wisdom and strength, you will always be an inspiration to us. Through your guidance, faith and love, you provided us with all we need in life. And because you've always been there for us, we love you very much. You will always be our hero and the "sunshine" in our lives.

      The family would like to thank the entire staff at ThedaCare Medical Center and ThedaCare Hospice for their excellent care. We are truly grateful.
