    • Joseph A. Ellenbecker Appleton and Green Bay Age 54, passed away at his home, with his family by his side, on Thursday, October 5, 2000, following a courageous battle with cancer. Joe was born October 11, 1945, in Appleton the son of Shirley (Turton) Ellenbecker and the late John Ellenbecker. He resided in the Appleton and Green Bay areas all of his life. Joe was a 1964 graduate of Xavier High School. He attended St. Michaels College in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and then the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Joe was a licensed real estate broker and was formerly employed by Valley Transit.

      He currently was employed by the Green Bay Transit System for over 20 years. Joe will be remembered as a very kind and humble person with a great sense of humor. Joe enjoyed his job with the bus company, especially meeting and talking with people and all the good friends he made.

      He loved the outdoors and had many good times hunting and fishing. Joe was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 857. He will be deeply missed by his mother, Shirley Ellenbecker, Appleton three sisters, Nina Ellenbecker and Mary Ellenbecker, both of Appleton and Anne (Daniel) Meyer, Green Bay nieces and nephews, John (Ellenbecker) Schuh, Carolynn, Patrick, Kathryn, and Matthew Meyer a special friend, Sharon Alberts, Green Bay other relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, John Ellenbecker on May 20, 1987. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 11 a.m.

      Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 S. State St., Appleton, with Fr. Michael O'Rourke officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery.

      Friends may call at the Brettschneider-Trettin- Lederer Funeral Chapel from 4 until 8 p.m. Sunday and then directly at the church from 10 a.m. Monday until the time of service. The parish prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. A memorial fund has been established.
