- Willard Peter "Bill" Ebben
Age 90, died on Monday, August 3, 2020 at home with his family. He was born August 12, 1929 in the Town of Kaukauna, Wisconsin to Henry and Mary (Huven) Ebben. Bill was the last surviving of eleven children. On August 4, 1951, he married Helen Mary Joyce at St. Paul Catholic Church in Wrightstown, WI. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on August 4, 2011. She preceded him in death on February 15, 2012.
Bill was with Thilmany Pulp and Paper Co. for 43 years. He retired as Garage Superintendent in 1989. He was president of the Thilmany Management Association chapter of the National Management Association, a member of the Thilmany Quarter Century Club, secretary and treasurer of the Shamrock Club of the Fox Cities and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1033. He was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish and a charter member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church where he was a lector and on the Liturgy Committee for over twenty years. Bill served in Co. D, 127th Inf. Reg., 32nd Red Arrow Division of the Army National Guard for over eight years. He did extensive genealogy research and wrote books on the Ebben and Joyce families. Bill and Helen made two trips to Ireland. They found the ancestral home of her great-grandfather, from which he left for America in 1847. Bill and Helen also enjoyed trips visiting family and touring in the U.S., Canada, and happy times at their cottage on Lake Hilbert. Bill was a watercolor artist, and enjoyed woodcarving. He loved crossword puzzles and rarely missed a Packer, Brewer or Badger game.
Bill is survived by his children Patti Ebben and her son, Dan; Jim Ebben; Jack Ebben; Maureen (Jeff) Klatt and their children Lizzie and Steve; and Katie (Park) Drescher and their children John and William; sisters-in-law, Rose Ebben and Sarah Joyce and many nieces and nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, a son, Joseph, his parents, father and mother in law, William J. and Gertrude (Golden) Joyce, siblings, Till (Peter) Van Den Bosch, Frances (Erv) Deprez, Vince (Mary) Ebben, Clara (Wally) Roepcke, Sister Janet Ebben, O.S.F., Gen Ebben; Marge (Ray) Heindl, Dick Ebben, Dorothy (Sylvester) Wavrunek, Hank Ebben, and members of Helen's family, sisters-in-law, Lillian (Jud) Baxter; Irene (Les) Neuman; Kate (Norb) Peters; Ethel (Jim) Faulds; and Patricia Joyce; and brothers-in-law, Emmett (Delores) Joyce and Bill Joyce.
Bill, will be honored in an online memorial of love and thanksgiving, on August 29, 2020 at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, please send remembrances directly to the family home in Kaukauna. A mass will be held when circumstances permit. Burial will be in St. Paul Catholic Cemetery, Wrightstown, WI.
