Garvey Zastrow, Bernice A. Bernice A. Garvey Zastrow, formerly of Freedom, Mother of M. Karen (Leo) Hietpas of Allouez, Bill (Pauline) Garvey of Freedom, and Joan (Mike) Bohlmann of Pewaukee, Bernice passed away peacefully on Monday, February 5, 2007, at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay. Bernice was born in Appleton on September 7, 1916, daughter of the late John and Lydia (Greb) Krueger. On August 17, 1940, Bernice married John N. Garvey in Appleton; he preceded her in death in 1966. In 1977, Bernice married Elmer Zastrow who has also preceded her in death. Bernice was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed sewing, needlework, quilting, and reading.
In addition to her children, she is survived by her grandchildren: Marilee (Leo) Kass, Brian (Greta) Hietpas, Erin (Mark) Bal, Paul (Karen) Garvey, Craig Garvey, Eric (Vicki) Garvey, Kari and Katie Bohlmann; ten great-grandchildren; two brothers: Kenneth (Florence) Krueger, De Pere; Harold (Mary) Krueger, Florida; a sister-in-law, Imogene Krueger, Green Bay; and her dearest friend Margaret Mankovecky of Kaukauna.
Bernice was preceded in death by her husbands, a brother Melvin, and sisters: Viola (Carl) Hofacker and Gladys (Richard) Sievert.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 9, 2007, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church. N4088 County Road E, in Freedom, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at which time the mass will be held. Fr. David Hoffman will officiate. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the many caregivers who looked after Bernice in her later years. They include the entire staff at St. Paul Manor in Kaukauna, Rennes Health Center in De Pere, 4th Floor Medical at Bellin Hospital, Unity Hospice, and Dr. Danowit. Your kindness and concern will never be forgotten.
