Jakl, Bernice
Bernice Jakl, age 90, of Kaukauna, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2009, at St. Paul Home with her family by her side. Bernice was born on October 1, 1918, to the late George and Agnes (Ashauer) Pendergast in the Town of Vandenbroek. On August 8, 1936, Bernice married Edward Jakl at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna. They raised seven children and have enjoyed their grandchildren and great-grandchildren who are scattered around Wisconsin, other States and in Europe (United Kingdom). Bernice was well known as a great seamstress, baker and cook. She made great Christmas candy, seafoam, and homemade suckers. She also made ten loaves of bread and several dozen buns every week. She and Ed enjoyed camping with friends up North. Bernice spent time in Hawaii, Germany and Ireland, and also traveled with the Golden Agers. She loved to play sheepshead and bingo and was very skilled at darts. She was surrounded by many friends, the Kabats and a special neighbor, Laura Giordana.
Bernice is survived by her children: Ron (Sonja) Jakl, Utah; Ed (Cathy) Jakl, Kaukauna; Patricia Diny, DePere; Carol DeValk, Combined Locks; Jerald Jakl, Appleton; and Tom Jakl, Kaukauna; 22 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward and daughter, Marie Jakl in 1976; granddaughters: Mary and Katherine Diny; great-granddaughters: Ashley and Aubrey DeValk; sons-in-law: Nick Diny and Leroy DeValk; daughter-in-law: Cheryl Jakl; sisters and brothers-in-law: Blanche and Marvin "Archie" Alger and Gladys and George Alger, her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Jacob and Anna Jakl.
The funeral liturgy for Bernice will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, September 26, 2009, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 309 Desnoyer Street, Kaukauna, with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Friends may call at the church from 11 a.m. on Saturday until the time of service. Interment will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, mermorials to St. Paul Elder Services are appreciated. Bernice's family would like to thank the staff at St. Paul Home for the excellent care they provided our mother the past four years.
Bernice's grandchildren and great-grandchildren enjoyed spending time with her because she was such a special lady. She will be missed by all of our families.
