    • Miriam C. Baumgartner, age 100, passed away at St. Paul Villa on Thursday September 5, 2013. She was born to the late Samuel and Pearl Chapman on May 14, 1913 in Marengo, Illinois. Miriam graduated from Hillsdale College in 1936. She was a Pi Beta Phi and continued her relationship with her sorority for her entire life. While in Hillsdale she spent her summers as a counselor at Camp Westminster on Higgins Lake. After graduating from college, she found one of the very few teaching jobs available, and made her way to Iron River, Michigan, where she met her future husband, Clarence Baumgartner. They married in 1937, and spent 62 wonderful years together. Miriam and Clarence spent most of her adult life residing in Kaukauna where he taught Social Studies at Kaukauna High School for 23 years, and she taught kindergarten in the Kimberly School District for 16 years.

Miriam is survived by her three children: Dr. Bert (Susan) Baumgartner of Fond du Lac; Thomas (Nan) Baumgartner of Fond du Lac; and Lee Ann Chernack and Tom Reed of Tiburon, CA.; and 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren: Steven (Cyndi) Baumgartner and their children Reese and Morgan; Peter (Katharine) Baumgartner; Emily (Aaron) Bilitz and their children Owen and Harrison; David Baumgartner and significant other Cassandra Keller; and Samuel Chernack. She is also survived by her sister Martha Nyboer of Grosse Point, MI. In addition, she has many wonderful nieces and nephews. A special thank you and warm appreciation is extended to her niece Susie and her husband Dennis Wydeven and their family, Nicole (Mike) Hochholzer, Katrina and Nathan Hochholzer; and Reg (Mary) Wydeven, Matthew and Ebben Wydeven. They were always there for Miriam (Aunt Chappie) and brought her countless hours of love and friendship. Words cannot sufficiently express the family's gratitude.

She is preceded in death by her husband Clarence, and her younger sister Louise Horn.

A funeral liturgy will be held for Miriam at 2:00PM on Monday, September 9, 2013 at the ST. PAUL HOME CHAPEL, Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating. A time of visitation will be held from 1:00PM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Paul Elder Services. Online condolences may be offered at www.wichmannfargo.com.

The family would like to thank the wonderful and kind attention from the administration and staff at St Paul Home along with the hospice nurses.
