Schleck, Helen nee Van Hoof Helen Schleck, nee Van Hoof, age 86, of Evanston, IL, and formerly of Louisville, KY, Hilton Head Island, SC, and Elmhurst, IL, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2005 at Three Crowns Park, Evanston. Beloved wife for 50 years of the late Raymond M. Schleck, Jr.; survived by their children: Barbara (Gary Ropski), Charles (Elana), Mary Lucille (Dr. E.J.) Donnelly, Margaret (Jeffrey) Hutter, Raymond, II (Ann), John (Alison); and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Elizabeth (nee Schmitt) Van Hoof; and four sisters: Dorothy Smith, Mae Vandenberg, Anna Van Hoof and Elizabeth "Betty" Huss. A memorial service was held in Evanston, IL. Interment private, Hilton Head Island, SC. In lieu of flowers Helen's family prefers either Masses, memorials to your local public library or to the Three Crowns Park Service Guild, 2323 McDaniel Ave., Evanston, IL 60201. Helen Schleck nee Van Hoof, age 86 of Evanston and formerly of Louisville, KY, Hilton Head Island, SC and Elmhurst, IL passed away Thursday, December 15th at Three Crowns Park, Evanston; Helen was born on April 6, 1919, the fourth of five daughters of Anton and Elizabeth (nee Schmitt) Van Hoof who owned a dairy farm in Freedom, Wisconsin. After graduating from Whitewater State Teachers College in Wisconsin, she taught commercial subjects at South Milwaukee High School prior to her marriage in 1946 to Raymond M. Schleck, Jr. of South Milwaukee, a newly returned veteran of World War II. Over a span of nearly 16 years, the couple had six children. Mr. Schleck's career with General Electric took the family to Schenectady, New York, Elmhurst, Illinois and Louisville, Kentucky. In each community, Helen volunteered at children's schools, in scout troops, at voter registration drives, polling places, public libraries and at the family's parish church. After Mr. Schleck retired, they divided their time between homes in Louisville and Hilton Head Island. With children living in Chicago, New York, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Minneapolis and Louisville, the couple hosted periodic reunions to keep everyone in touch. Mr. Schleck died in 1996, just 3 months before their 50th wedding anniversary. In January 2004, Helen moved from Louisville to Three Crowns Park, operated by the Swedish Retirement Association in Evanston, Illinois, living their until her death.
