    • Laverne M. Brys, age 99, passed away peacefully at the St. Paul Home on Saturday, September 5, 2015.

      Laverne Degeneffe was born at the family farm home outside of Oconto, Wisconsin, on February 21, 1916, the second youngest child of Ellen Cota and Charlie Degeneffe. She attended St. Peter's Catholic Grade School and graduated from Oconto High School. On September 3, 1936, she married Louis E. "Breezie" Brys at St. Peter's Church in Oconto. The young couple moved to Little Chute, Wisconsin, where they resided their entire married life. Laverne was a faithful member of St. John's Church in Little Chute. Laverne was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, canning and especially baking. She worked seasonally at Reynebeau Floral for 10 years.

      Laverne was preceded in death by her husband Louis; twin sons Dick and Dan; Dick's wife Yachio; a special niece Betty Ann Brys; four brothers and nine sisters; nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews; other family members and friends; and a lifetime friend, Dorothy "Dort" Van Deurzen.

      Laverne is survived by a daughter-in- law, Lynn Brys; a granddaughter, Becky Brys; a grandson, Doug Brys; a special great niece Margie VanderHeiden and her husband Bill; special nephew, Thom Miron and his wife Sue; long-time friends Laverne Vanden Heuvel, Jane and Bob Klozotsky, Liz and Eli Swanson and children, Michael Klozotsky and Abbie Coley, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and special friends.

      Funeral services will be at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, September 10, 2015, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, 323 S. Pine St., Little Chute, with Fr. Ron Belitz officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the Mass. Interment will take place in St. John's Cemetery, Little Chute.
