    Notes
    • Arves, Chaney

The Lord came on Thanksgiving night and said, "Chaney Arves, it's time to come home." Born June 27, 1929, in Litchville, North Dakota to Harold and Aileen (Norberg) Arves, Chaney and his mom came to Green Bay in 1938 with his aunt and uncle, Alma and Charlie Horkman with whom they made their home until he was 16. In 1948, he graduated from East High School and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. On Nov. 13, 1954, he married Joan Birkenmeier and they raised five children. Time spent with family and attending their events was a priority of Chaney's life. His love for family and country were continuous throughout his life.

After 39 years of employment with Wisconsin Public Service and working construction to support his family, Chaney retired and began a second career of public service. His tireless work ethic and practice of under promising but over delivering continued as he volunteered countless hours over the past 20 years for the Resurrection Food Pantry, Home Bound Meals and Unity Hospice and donating over 60 gallons of blood to the Red Cross. His generosity of spirit, humility and integrity led him to be nominated for the Heart of Gold Lifetime Achievement Award. Many of Green Bay's hungry, disabled or suffering will truly miss his uplifting sense of humor and dependability. He truly lived his gospel.

Chaney leaves a loving wife, Joan Arves; five children and their spouses, Scott and Karen Arves, Todd and Cindy Arves, Julie and Kelly O'Keefe, Jay and Beth Arves, Brett and Jenni Arves; 10 grandchildren, Kayla Wallinger, Melissa (Curtis) Weisse, Mitchell Arves, Steve (special friend, Alli) Arves, Nikki (special friend, Spencer) O'Keefe, Amanda (special friend, Kyle) O'Keefe, Heather Arves, Ben Arves, Michael Sazama, Nikki (Zac) Meyer, a great-grandchild, Adalyn Meyer; brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lauren and Karen Horkman, Dean and Julie Kaster, Cletus Kaster, Clayton and Clara Kaster, Cleo Peksa, Jo Ann Krieger, Margaret Kaster, Howard and Kathy Hansen, Cletus Birkenmeier; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Arves; his mother and step-father, Aileen and Al Kaster; his aunt and uncle, Alma and Charlie Horkman; brothers, sisters , brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Fabian and Bev Horkman, Jearly Horkman, Norma and Marvin Schoen, De Hansen and Nita Kaster.

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason. Unity Hospice Chaplain, Bob Nooker , will close the evening with a prayer. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 1024 Shawano Ave. A Funeral Service will be held at the church at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. Kathryn Schreitmueller officiating and Bill Hartung eulogizing. Full Military Honors will conclude the services. To send online condolences, visit www.prokowall.com. A memorial fund has been established to benefit Unity Hospice.

It is not possible to thank everyone from Unity Hospice who helped make Chaney's transition from life to everlasting life easier and rewarding. All of you were near and dear to his heart.

Well done, good and faithful servant!
