Smits, Lorraine H.
Lorraine H. Smits, 90, De Pere, passed away Sunday evening, Dec. 7, 2008.
She was born Aug. 25, 1918, in De Pere, to the late Louis and Mathilda (Vanden Branden) Albers.
On May 30, 1940, she was united in marriage to Raymond Smits at St. Boniface Catholic Church in De Pere.
Lorraine was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family in De Pere. She was an avid bowler, having bowled over 50 years in league. Lorraine also enjoyed crocheting, baking cookies and pies, traveling, and especially renting cottages with her family.
She is survived by her children, Donna (Lee) Gage, North Kansas City, Mo.; Bill (Nancy) Smits, Green Bay; Jack (Susan) Smits, Grover Beach, Calif.; and Ted (Mugs) Smits, Appleton; nine grandchildren, Raymond and William Gage, North Kansas City, Mo.; Aaron (Erica) Smits, Singapore; Ben (Stacy) Smits, Green Bay; Josh (Brenda) Smits, Green Bay; Alicia Smits, Wauwatosa, Naomi (John) Hink, Brookfield; Joe (Jenny) Smits, De Pere; and Mike Smits, Appleton. She is further survived by four great-grandchildren, Shelby, Andrew, Grant, and Emma; her sister, Lucille Tahlier; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy Thomson, Della (Gene) Spreeman, Verna Mae Parins, Lloyd (Jean) Smits, Mae Willems, and Dottie Albers; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; her brothers, Lawrence (Ellen) Albers, Clarence Albers, Carl Albers, Don Albers; her sisters-and brothers-in-law; Harold Tahlier, Roman (Gen) Smits, Norma (John) Minten, Joe Thomson, Mel Thomson, Connie Berken, and Sonny Parins.
Friends may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, corner of Lourdes Ave. and Suburban Drive, De Pere, until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Fr. The family would like to thank the 3rd floor staff at St. Mary's Hospital for all their care and concern. Thank you also to her caring neighbors George and Roxanne Bohl for all of their help, which enabled Lorraine to stay in her home as long as she did.
