Vercauteren, Joe
Joe Vercauteren, 92, Ashwaubenon, died early Tuesday morning March 25, 2008. He was born April 7, 1915 in Ashwaubenon to the late Peter and Jennie (Wilmet) Vercauteren. On June 19, 1943, he was united in marriage to Catherine Patton in Glenmore. Joe had farmed as well as worked at Red Owl Warehouse, retiring from farming in 1974, and Red Owl in 1977. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, and a past member of the Holy Name Society at St. Boniface. Joe was also a member of Teamsters - Local 75. He enjoyed gardening, woodcrafting, card playing, and going to his cottage in Lakewood.
He is survived by his children; Patrick (Dorothy) Vercauteren, Greenwood, IN., Alice (Harvey) Rottier, Madison, WI., his grandchildren; Eric (Amy) Rottier, Andrea (Ron) Suh, Jennifer (Aaron) Schuette, and Michael (Courtney) Vercauteren. Joe is further survived by his great grandchildren; Helen, John, Mary, Michael, Kyleigh, Zachary, Vivian, Beckett, Cooper, and Spencer, Joe's sister- in-law Phyllis (Chet) Klarkowski, as well as Catherine's family: Lucille Patton, Edward Wallschleager, Rosemary Manning, Florence Servais, Dorothy (Cliff) Berg, Earl (Marguerite) Patton, Pat (Jack) Ambrosius, his special friend Irene Manders, as well as numerous friends, neighbors, and nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife Catherine, his siblings; Marie (Joe's Twin), his sister Florence and brothers: Norbert, Harold, Earl, and Bernard, and members of Catherine's family.
Friends may call at the RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 N. Tenth Street, De Pere from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. (Today) Thursday, and after 9 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, corner of Lourdes Ave. and Suburban Drive De Pere, until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. with Fr. Tim Shillcox O.Praem officiating. Burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Please go to www.ryanfh.com to express online condolences to the family. In LIEU of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the BLAISE PETERS SCHOLARSHIP FUND, 1307 Lourdes Ave. De Pere, WI 54115. (The scholarship fund assists the children of Our Lady of Lourdes grade school in defraying tuition costs.)
The family wishes to especially thank Jack and Pat Ambrosius for the many years of help and guidance they provided for Joe in his later years, as well as his many caring neighbors.
