    • Daniel J. Hammen, age 75, of Stockbridge, died on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at his home in Stockbridge. He was born January 4, 1942 in Little Chute, son of the late John “Jack” & Harriet (VanVonderen) Hammen.

      He served in the United States Army, and following his discharge, he returned to the area and opened up Dan’s Drive where he hired his soon to be wife, Ellen. Dan married Ellen Meyer on June 19, 1965 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge.

      Dan was a ‘Jack of all Trades’, not just in the construction arena, but throughout every facet of his life. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge, served on the Stockbridge School Board where he also served as President, was a Charter Member of the Stockbridge Lions Club, he belonged to the Stockbridge American Legion and ran the Brant Inn with his wife Ellen for a time. Dan was also a retired member of the Stockbridge Fire Department and the Stockbridge Harbor Fishing Club.

      Dan enjoyed time spent on Lake Winnebago, especially during the annual Sturgeon Spearing Season. He was known to be an excellent party planner, especially when it came to crafting surprise birthday parties for those he loved. Above all else, the loving man cherished his children and all that they have accomplished in their lives. He loved each and every one of his children and grandchildren dearly.

      Survivors include his wife, Ellen, his children: John (Dawn) Hammen, Ted Hammen, Randy (Amy) Hammen, Steve (Jodi) Hammen, Jayna (Andy) Shene; his grandchildren: Bryce, Jack, Bella, Morgan & Mason; and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Wayne (Ginny) Meyer, Marilyn (Lyle) Levknecht, Pat Parsons, Carol Wolf & her friend, Jim, and Judy Meyer & her friend, Bob. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

      Daniel was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Ted & Hilda Meyer; a brother: Clarence “Abe” Hammen, sisters: June Hammen & Carol (Dr. George) Schwei; and his brothers-in-law: Ted Meyer, Sam Wolf & Don Parsons.

      Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge with the Rev. Michael Betley officiating. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 and on Wednesday at church from 12:30 pm until 1:45 pm.
