- Fitzgerald, James I. Appleton
Age 89, passed away on Thursday January 6, 2005 at Rennes Health Care Center in Appleton after a long illness. Jim was born July 31, 1915 in New London the son of the late John and Grace (Crew) Fitzgerald. Jim graduated from New London High School and the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He was a veteran of World War II and participated in the first B-29 combat mission against the enemy in the China & India-Burma Theater. He left active service in 1945 and served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve retiring in 1975 with the rank of Lt. Col. Jim was a retired employee of B. C. Ziegler Co., and in November of 1952 he opened their Appleton office. Jim was a member of St. Therese Catholic Parish since 1952. He served as an usher and on various church committees over the years. He was a member of the Appleton Serra Club, the Retired Officers Association, and served on the St. Joseph Cemetery Board for a number of years. Survivors include his wife Helen; 2 sons Patrick and Joseph (Becky) Fitzgerald both of Austin, TX; 2 granddaughters Keri of Phoenix, AZ. and Erin of Austin, TX.; a brother Gene (Betty) Fitzgerald of Glendora, CA; 2 sisters Margie Bricco of New London and Betty (Hubert) Schuelke of Manawa; also numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a son Thomas, 3 brothers Thomas, Greg, and Jack Fitzgerald, and a sister Rosemary . The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 11AM Monday January 10th at St. Therese Catholic Church, corner of Wisconsin and Morrison Sts., with Fr. William Hoffman officiating. Friends may call directly at the church from 9:30AM Monday until the time of the service. Jim will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the St. Therese Improvement Fund.
