- Evelyn L. Van Thiel, age 91, of Combined Locks, passed away at St. Paul Home in Kaukauna on Monday, February 6, 2012, after a heroic battle with cancer. She was born on November 22, 1920 to the late Phillip and Angeline (Pagona) Brum. Evelyn married her best friend, the love of her life, Roman Van Thiel on August 29, 1945. He preceded her in death on August 20, 1992. Evelyn was an extraordinarily giving, lovable person, who went out of her way to do good for others. She loved her children and their spouses with equal measure; and cherished all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by three daughters and their husbands: Barbara and Don Hartjes, Kewaunee, Marsha and Roger Schanke, Appleton, Susan and Patrick Hermus, Combined Locks; five sons and their wives: Mark and Jean Van Thiel, Combined Locks, Thomas and Sandy Van Thiel, Little Chute, David and Kathleen Van Thiel, Hartland, Richard and Claudia Van Thiel, O'Fallon, Illinois, Robert and Jolene Van Thiel, Kimberly; her grandchildren: Lori (Bill) Lutzke, Jeff (Charity) Hartjes. Randy Hartjes, Paul (Nancy) Schanke, Andrew (Renee) Schanke, Scott (Laurie) Schanke, Angela (Brian) Warner, Ryan (Jessie) Hermus, Eric (Coree) Van Thiel, Abby (George) Holzschuh, Michelle Pohlman (special friend, Dave), Steven (Brooklyn) Van Thiel, Jillian Van Thiel, James Van Thiel, Jacalyn (Seth) Jirikowic, Phillip Van Thiel, Brian Van Thiel, Matthew (Stephanie) Van Thiel, and Andrew Van Thiel (special friend, Amanda); 31 great grandchildren; two sisters: Dorothy Wachtendonk and Elsie Clark.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roman, her two sisters and brothers-in-law: Mamie (Dean) Smith and Charlotte (Joseph) Van Daalwyk, two brothers-in-law: Bill Wachtendonk and Gene Clark.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at ST. PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 E. Wallace Street, Combined Locks with Fr. Andrew Kysely officiating. Friends will be received directly at church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
