- Hortonville - Robert Joseph Lauer, age 62 of Hortonville, passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2019 surrounded by his loving family at ThedaCare Appleton from a short battle of "stupid cancer" of the lungs. Robert was born to the late Robert and Myrtle (Reinert) Lauer on December 9, 1956 in Appleton. He was united in marriage to Deborah Hinkens on September 25, 1982. Robert drove truck for N & M Transfer for 34 years to support his beautiful family, retiring in 2016. Robert loved telling jokes, especially around the campfire, riding ATV trails, boating on the Wolf River, cutting wood, hunting, spending time at the cabin in Neillsville and living the high life. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was an unselfish very loved man who will be greatly missed.
Robert is survived by his wife, Deb; children, Robert (Amber) Lauer, Black Creek, Amanda (Justin) Neuman, Fremont and Holly ("Jiggs") Balthazor, Appleton; grandchildren, Bert, Jase, Jesse and Leland; mother-in-law, Mary Hinkens and siblings, Jim (Rose) Lauer, Appleton, Jean (Mark) Krause, Texas, Tom (Kay) Lauer, Appleton, Bill (Karen) Lauer, Mercer and Karen (Steve) Schuette, Iowa. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Joseph Leo; father-in-law, Romy Hinkens and nephews, Jesse and Michael.
The Funeral Mass for Robert will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Stephensville with Fr. John Kastenholz officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 from 4-7 p.m. at Borchardt Moder Funeral Home in Hortonville and again from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church Wednesday. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
