Hinkens, Romy J.
Romy J. Hinkens, age 75, of Fremont, died on Thursday, October 8, 2009, at his home. He was born on October 6, 1934, in Little Chute, Wisconsin, the son of the late Joseph and Helen (Verstegen) Hinkens. On April 16, 1955, Romy married Mary Heckel in Appleton. Romy was employed by the Appleton School System for 15 years before retiring. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Weyauwega. Romy served as a Boy Scout Scoutmaster for Troop 105 in Freedom for many years. He enjoyed outdoor activities, especially hunting and fishing, and was also an RV enthusiast, and enjoyed watching many sports. Romy also enjoyed spending time with his family in Neillsville.
Romy is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary; his children: Dave (Kari), Freedom; Doug (Christy) Wausau; Diane Baumgart (special friend, Jack), Hortonville; Debbie (Bob) Lauer, Hortonville; 11 grandchildren: Kristen, Kimberly, Keri, Kassidy, Craig, Penny, Michael, Tina, Robert, Amanda and Holly; 10 great-grandchildren: Cody, Thyra, Amya, Annaliese, Alana, Rylan, Aidan, Jyllian, Addison and Issabella; two sisters: Beata (Richard) Hahn, Little Chute; Bonnie (Don) Thews, Menasha; a brother, Daryl (Barb) Hinkens, Appleton; a sister-in-law, Ginny Hinkens, Appleton; three stepbrothers: Flloyd (June) Miller, Merlin Miller and Norman Miller.
Romy was preceded in death by a grandson, Jesse Baumgart; a brother, J. Duane Hinkens; his stepfather, Barney Miller; three half-sisters: Grace VanBeek, Bernice Zwiers and Cynthia LeClere, and a half-brother, Raymond Hinkens.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 12, 2009, at 11 a.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 105 N. Lincoln St., Weyauwega. Father Bert Samsa, OFM, Cap. will officiate. Entombment will be held in Highland Memorial Park in Appleton. Friends may call on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. at the Lewin Funeral Home, Fremont. Visitation will also be held on Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Romy's family would like to extend a special Thank you to the Vince Lombardi Clinic, Oshkosh and Aurora Hospice, especially Johanna, for all of the wonderful care and support during this time.
