    • Roy M. Abitz, 90, King, WI., formerly of De Pere, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2014. He was born in Wausau, WI on December 27, 1923 to the late Otto Abitz and Hester (Schaumburger) Abitz. Roy has been a Mason since 1978 and is a charter member of Beja Shrine. He is the past president of the Green Bay Shrine Club and a longstanding member of the Supercycle unit. He is a life member of the VFW in Wausau and a member of the American Legion also a member of Elks Lodge #259 and a former member of the Green Bay Chapter of the Society for Preservation of Barbershop Quartet singing in America (SPEBSQSA). He served in the US Army Air-Corp (Air Force) from 1943 - 1961. Roy was a Combat Control Tower Operator in the Philippine Islands. After his extensive military career he was Honorably Discharged as a Tech Sergeant in Berkenfeld, Germany in 1961. With his military experience he spent many years as an Air Traffic Controller for the FAA at Austin Strauble Airport in Green Bay. Roy married Julie (Bultman) Amond in Green Bay on December 16, 1995.

      Survivors include his wife beloved wife Julie; stepchildren April Amond and Joan (Andrew) Whittaker; five grandchildren, Dylan Shurpit, Brian Whittaker, Terri (Doug) Bogen, Kathy (Mike) Columbo, Julie (Rich) Reed; ten great grandchildren, Kyle, Kory, Cooper Whittaker, Madison and Sydney Bogen, Tierney ORourke, Allison and Molly Columbo, Justin and Nick Reed; one great great grandchild, Harper Whittaker; one sister Janet Kemerer and numerous of nieces, nephews and friends.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Hester; brothers, Warren and Gerald Abitz; sisters, Marion and Babe.

      Friends and family may call on Pfotenhauer Funeral Home & Cremation Service, East Green Bay location, 2379 East Mason St, on Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. Masonic service at 10:45 Memorial service at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Bob Laubenstein officiating followed by full Military Honors.
