  • Notes
    • With her family by her side, June Smits joined her loving husband, Randall, in heaven on November 20, 2014. June was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to Edna and Arthur Adams on June 15, 1920. As a child her family moved often, finally settling in the Green Bay area.

June attended Nicolet High School in De Pere where she met the love of her life, Randall Smits. While in high school she was a cheerleader, a member of the chorus, and helped paint scenery for school plays. She briefly played the violin as a child, and later in life learned to play the piano.

June and Randall were married on Feb. 14, 1942 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, De Pere and celebrated 68 wonderful years together.

With her kind heart and healing hands, June found her true vocation as a wife and mother, giving birth to 14 children. June and Randall made their home a welcoming place for everyone, always making their children's friends feel like part of the family. They were also foster parents. June loved nature and had amazing vegetable and flower gardens. June was very spiritual and passed on her strong faith to her children. After her children were grown, June became an accomplished artist. She did beautifully detailed pencil sketches of her grandchildren. She also did portraits and other subject matter in oil and acrylic paints and pastels.

June is survived by her 12 children Susan (George) Foehse, Randy (Lynn) Smits, Barb (Ken) Treml, Mike (Jan) Smits, Tim (Kathy) Smits, Beth (Joe) Sanders, Joel (Lori) Smits, Sally (Brad) Terrell, Mary Jo Romenesko and fiancé Ken Clark, Theresa (Mark) Paral, Pam (Scott) Mathewson, Holly "Cuddly Bear" Smits, 39 Grandchildren, 68 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, infant daughter Eileen Mary, infant son Peter Brian, her parents, her brother Art, her sister Vivian, her sister Beth and two grandsons Tim Sanders and Peter Paremski.

Friends and family may call at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, Lourdes Avenue at Suburban Drive from 9:00 am on Saturday, November 23, 2014 until the time of the service. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday at the church with Father Tim Shillcox, O. Praem, officiating. Burial in Mt Calvary Cemetery. Please visit www.ryanfh.com to send on line condolences to the Smits family. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund has been established.

The family wishes to thank all the ANGELS at Angels Touch Assisted Living and Heartland Hospice Care for the compassionate and loving care they gave our mother, and for being there for her when we weren't able to be there. Because of you, our mother's last years were filled with love, kindness and dignity. Thank you all so much! A special thank you to our sister Pam and her family for taking Mom into their home the day our father died, comforting her and making their home hers until she moved to assisted living; and our brother Tim and his family for taking care of our mother just like Dad would have.
