- Age 94, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2003 at Franciscan Care Center in Appleton. Lena was born in Overloon, Netherlands on November 23, 1908, and immigrated with her family to Butler, Minnesota. In 1926, she married Tony Polman and relocated to Kimberly in search of work. Lena and Tony volunteered at area meal sites, including the YMCA and Randall Court, as well as the meal sites in Menasha. She was a longtime and faithful member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Kimberly.
Survivors include her son: Joe (Thelma) Polman of Kimberly; four grandchildren: Kim (Randy) Kowalke of Menasha; Perri Ann (Bill) Larson of Lakeville, Minnesota and their children Billi Alexandra and Cole; Joseph (Valerie) Polman of Stevens Point and their children Annaleigh, Annika, and Arrington; Anthony (Lori) Polman of Monticello, Minnesota and their children Kate, Ray, and Jack; a brother: Cornelius Sweere of Appleton. Lena is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-seven years Tony, three infant children: Mary Ann, Betty May, and Leonard; brothers: John, George, and Harry Sweere; and sisters: Mary Polman and Ann Polman.
The funeral liturgy for Lena will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2003 at 12:00 Noon at HOLY NAME CATHOLIC CHURCH, 600 E. Kimberly Avenue, Kimberly with Fr. Robert Vandenberg officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church from 10 AM until the hour of the service.
