    • Adriannus Hanegraaf was born to John Hanegraaf and Martijna Steenbergen. He was a Koetsier, a coachman, for a nobleman, Prince Van Gladbeck. When the prince moved to Italy in 1905, Adrian moved his family from Helmond to S'Hertogenbosh. There Adrian was employed in a steel warehouse and Hendrika ran a grocery store. Adrian quit his job two years later and bought another store. When it flopped, Hendrika convinced Adrian that America was the land of opportunity for his family. He emigrated to Kimberly, Wisconsin in January of 1909. Hendrika and their six children followed him in November of the same year.
      Adriannus was employed by the Kimberly Clark Mill. Within 18 months of his arrival in Wisconsin, he died of asphyxiation. He was cleaning out the lime pit and the fumes killed him.
      Hendrika's mother was Wilhelmina Van Gog(h). It is probable Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890) was a close relative. Hendrika and her mother would speak of him, but because he killed himself, he was referred to as an outcast of the family, and hence, taboo.
      Hendrika (Harriet) was a very devout Catholic. She was bright, tactful and very social. She loved to play cards and everyone loved her. She was sweet, but strict with her children. After Adrian's death in 1911, Harriet married Herman Venantius Hanegraaf on 14 May 1918. When that marriage didn't work, Harriet went to live with her daughter, Wilhelmina (Minnie).
