Kokke, Sister Agnes Rose Sister Agnes Rose Kokke, O.P., 96, passed away at Lakeshore Manor, Racine on Thursday, November 16, 2006. Wilhelmina Kokke was born April 2, 1910, to Henry J. and Alida (nee: Hulst) Kokke in Nijmegen, Holland. On August 29, 1931, she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1932, she was given the religious name Sister Agnes Rose. She professed her first vows in 1934, and her final vows in 1940.
Sister Agnes Rose spent many years in service to others in teaching. She began her ministry in 1931, at Nativity of Our Lord, Detroit, MI. In Racine she served at St. Mary, St. Joseph, St. Catherine High School, and Dominican College. Other places in Wisconsin where she served were St. Aloysius, Sauk City; and Urban Day School, Milwaukee. She moved to Siena Center in 1987. In February 2001, she became a resident at Lakeshore Manor, Racine.
Sister Agnes Rose is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; her sisters Ann Scheler and Pauline (Donald) Schroeder; her sister-in-law, Betty Kokke; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her parents; her brothers: Cornelius, Jerry, Henry, Ted, and Frank; and her sisters: Mary Kokke, Ellie Fahrenkrug, Lucy Ashwill, and Digna Stone.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Siena Center Chapel, 5635 Erie Street, Racine, Monday, November 20, 2006, at 6:15 p.m. Visitation will be on Monday from 2 p.m. until time for the Liturgy with a Remembering Service at 4:15 p.m. Internment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery on Highway 32, Racine. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested.
