The process is now almost entirely digital using the PINNALE system with compatible computers and monitors, enabling coaches, players and front office personnel the ability to splice, view and monitor the same footage using "v-mail" off each individual monitor. The new process parallels Hermans' spearheading of the Lions' effort in 1986 when the NFL switched from an all-film operation to videotape.

Mr. Hermans was Assistant Photo Director at WBAY-TV in his native Green Bay, Wisconsin, from 1968-77 prior to his joining the Lions. His contact with football began at WBAY when he processed, edited and printed game films for the Packers.

42373 Stephen J. Joyce was born in 1815 in County Galway, Ireland where he was reared and educated. The Joyce family owned and operated a marble company in Ireland. Stephen was allergic to marble dust so he was not able to join the family business. He left Ireland in 1847 at the age of 32 and came to Rockland, Brown County, Wisconsin in 1851 from County Galway, Ireland via Montreal, Quebec, Canada and Boston, Massachusetts where in 1851 he was married to Elizabeth Duffy. Stephen was advised by a Boston doctor to go to Wisconsin where the tall pines are so that he could get relief from asthma. At the time, the U.S. Federal Government gave the State of Wisconsin Section 16 of each township in the state. These sections were to be sold and the monies used to start the University of Wisconsin. On January 27, 1855, Stephen Joyce bought 40 acres in Section 16 in the Town of Rockland, Wisconsin. On April 1, 1856, he bought an additional 40 acres. The deeds for this land purchased are in the Historical Museum in DePere, Wisconsin. Stephen had to cut down trees and build a cabin. Woodsmen passing through at the time took time to make doors for the cabin because of animals in the woods. Stephen had temporarily hung blankets over the doors to keep out the cold. Stephen and Elizabeth had 7 sons and 4 daughters. Two of the sons graduated from the University of Wisconsin. Stephen and Elizabeth Joyce`s graves are in the old section of Allouez Cemetery. Records show that the graves were moved there as the old cemetery was near the east end of the Mason Street bridge. 42377 Stephen Kappell, 18, Missing Since Sept. 28 From Oshkosh Dormitory
Oshkosh -- The partially decomposed body found last weekend floating face up in Lake Winnebago, bound and naked, has been identified as that of Stephen Kappell, 18-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Kappell, 1017 Hillcrest Drive, Kaukauna, a freshman student at Wisconsin State University-Oshkosh.
Positive identification was made by Oshkosh police and state crime specialists who used dental records and fingerprints to obtain the identification.
In light of developments, Oshkosh Police Chief Harry Guenther today said he is not positively establisheing the case as a murder and is leaving open the possibility that the student may have beaten and bound himself, tied a stone to his feet, and hurled himself into Lake Winnebago near where he was fount Saturday.
Extensive Investigation
The police chief said he is not discounting suicide "because, even though the body is beaten, there is no report of a skull fracture."
Guenther said he is ordering an extensive investigation on the college campus where the student was last seen alive Sept. 28 and from where he disappared without taking his clothing from his room in Breese Hall.
While police were pondering the fate of the Kaukauna student in Oshkosh, friends and family in his hometown 25 miles away could not help but wonder what did happen to the youth they knew as polite and serious, and a fine athlete.
Kappell, the oldest child in his family, was a member of the baseball, football, track, volleyball and werstling teams, active in the K-Club, a good, B average student, interested in literature, writing and music.
Mingled Well
One teacher said he mingled well and was well accepted by the students. He was courteous and never got into trouble. He had been looking forward to a teaching profession and a good college careet.

42381 STEPHEN MEIDAM, a highly esteemed retired citizen of Appleton, now living retired at his residence No. 1089 Morrison street, was born in Holland, May 17, 1848, and is a son of John and Richa (VanSmallan) Meidam, natives of that country. The family came to the United States in 1851, settling first in New York, and in 1853 came to Appleton. John Meidam was a farmer and timber hewer, owning twenty acres of land which is all situated in the Sixth Ward, and the present residence of Stephen Meidam now stands upon a part of the old homestead. John Meidam died in 1867, his widow surviving until 1907, when she passed away at the age of eighty-two years. They were the parents of nine children, of whom five survive, as follows: Dennis, superintendent for the Riverside Association, Appleton; Mary, the wife of Peter Van Oyen, a farmer of Maine township; Miles, proprietor of the Roger grain house of Appleton; Henrietta, the wife of Cornelius Van Wyk, a farmer of Grand Chute township; and Stephen. Stephen Meidam attended the district schools of Grand Chute township and the public schools of Appleton, and at the age of eleven years began working in the old stove factory in Appleton, where he continued about three years. His next employment was in the hub and spoke works, and in August, 1864, he enlisted in Company E, Fifth Regiment, Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, and served one year. At the battle of Petersburg he received a severe gun-shot wound in his left leg, which necessitated the amputation of that member above the knee, and he was confined to the hospital four months. He was mustered out of the service in September, 1865, at Washington, D.C., and immediately returned to Appleton. He secured whatever employment he could find, and notwithstanding his injury he readily found work at farming, railroad construction and hub and spoke making, and about 1880 he commenced gardening, selling his product in Appleton and being very successful in that line. In 1909 he retired from active life and sold all his property except one acre, on which his residence, built in 1905, now stands. Mr. Meidam's career is one which might well serve as an example for the youth of today, proving as it does that the man in whom there is the right spirit may succeed in life no matter what handicap he starts under. He has always been a hard and faithful worker, and he may now look back over a useful and well-spent life, secure in the knowledge that he has the honor and esteem of his fellow-townsmen as a brave soldier in time of war and a public-spirited citizen in time of peace. Mr. Meidam attends the Congregational Church, although he is not a member thereof. He is connected with George D. Eggleston Post, No. 133, Grand Army of the Republic, Appleton, and in politics is a Republican, his townsmen having elected him to various places of honor and trust, including that of alderman of the Sixth Ward and supervisor. Mr. Meidam was married September 14, 1872, to Julia Van Oyen, who was born in Erie county, New York, May 2, 1853, daughter of John J. and Antonia (Steenis) Van Oyen, natives of Holland who came to America in 1851. They located first in Erie county, New York, where Mr. Van Oyen was engaged in clearing timber. He first came to Appleton in 1853, where he first followed his trade of mason for a few years, and then purchased a farm in Grand Chute township. 42385 STEPHEN R. STILP, office manager of the Kimberly & Clark Company's mills at Kimberly, Wisconsin, has worked his way to the position which he now holds in a comparatively short time from that of office boy, the capacity in which he joined this company, and is an example of what may be accomplished by persistency of effort rightly directed and a determination to succeed. Born in Neenah, Wisconsin, in 1874, Mr. Stilp is a son of John and Josephine Stilp, the former a native of Prussia and the latter of Southern Germany. Mr. Stilp's parents came to the United States as young people, locating in Wisconsin in 1849, and being married in this State. John Stilp, whose occupation was that of shoemaker, is now deceased. Stephen R. Stilp's education was secured in the parochial school at Neenah, and even in boyhood he showed his enterprise by devoting his vacations to work in a grocery store instead of joining his less energetic companions in play. On completing his schooling he entered the Appleton Chair Company's factory at Menasha, where he was employed for about one year, and he first entered the employ of the Kimberly & Clark Company in 1890, in the capacity of office boy. His advance since that time has been rapid, and although still a young man he holds the responsible position of office manager for the large interests of the company at Kimberly, where he also serves as county supervisor. In 1895, Mr. Stilp was united in marriage with Miss Ella Beach, of Neenah, daughter of J. P. and Ella (Platt) Beach, of Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Mr. and Mrs. Stilp have had four children: Stephen R., Jr., Dorothy M., Alice G. and Helen J. Mr. and Mrs. Stilp are members of Father Van Nistelroy's Holy Name Catholic congregation, and he is a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Modern Woodmen and the E. F. U. In his political affiliation, he adheres stanchly to the principles of the Republican party. Stilp, Stephen Raphael (I237659)

42386 Stephen Sanders (I1812) birth 1818 August 27 in Herveld, may be a misinterpretation. There is no Stephen Sanders born on August 27, 1818. In the birth records of the municipality of Herveld I can’t find this Stephen, nor in other minicipality. However, a Johannes Stephan, was born on October 20, 1817 in Herveld.

42388 Stephen V, King of Hungary, was the eldest son of Béla IV, whom he succeeded in 1270. As crown prince he had exhibited considerable ability, but also a disquieting restlessness and violence. In 1262 he compelled his father, whom he had assisted in the Bohemian War, to surrender twenty-nine counties to him, so that Hungary was virtually divided into two kingdoms. Not content with this he subsequently seized the southern banate of Macso, which led to a fresh war between father and son in which the latter triumphed. In 1268 he undertook an expedition against the Bulgarians, conquering the land as far as Tirnova and styling himself henceforth king of Bulgaria. Stephen was a keen and circumspect politician, and for his future security contracted, during his father's lifetime, a double matrimonial alliance with the Neapolitan princes of the House of Anjou, the chief partisans of the pope. He certainly needed exterior support; for on his accession to the Hungarian throne, as he himself declared, everyone was his enemy. This hostility was due to the almost universal opinion of western Europe that Stephen was a semi-pagan. His father had married him while still a youth (c. 1255) to Elizabeth, daughter of the Rumanian chieftain Köteny, with a view to binding the Rumanians (who could put in the field 16,000 men) more closely to the dynasty in the then by no means improbable contingency of a second Tatar invasion. The lady was duly baptized and remained a Christian; but the adversaries of Stephen, especially Ottakar II of Bohemia, affected to believe that Stephen was too great a friend of the Rumanians to be a true Catholic. Ottakar endeavored, with the aid of the Magyar malcontents, to conquer the western provinces of Hungary, but after some successes was utterly routed by Stephen in 1271 near Mosony and by the peace of Pressburg, the same year, relinquished all his conquests. Stephen died suddenly on the 6th of August 1272, just as he was raising an army to recover his kidnapped infant son Ladislas from the hands of his rebellious vassals. Hungary, Stephan V King of (I482757)

42389 Stephen Wettstein Chilton Times February 16, 1923

The death of Stephen Wettstein which occurred at the home of his son, Edward, on the town line in the town of Stockbridge, removed to a higher sphere one of the early settlers of that community. Mr. Wettstein had been ailing for over a year past and was taken to St. Agnes hospital at Fond du Lac some time ago where he was under treatment for a couple of weeks or so. Not improving as he expected to, he returned home and since Nov. 27th last has been under the care of a trained nurse, failing gradually in strength until the end came on Friday last.

Stephen Wettstein was born in Bohmen, Germany, Feb. 25, 1850, and came to America with his parents in 1855, settling on a farm in Marytown, Fond du Lac County.

He grew to young manhood there and remained on the farm assisting his father until July 6, 1873, when he was united in marriage to Mrs. Mary See, a widow with two children. They located on the farm on the town line, now the property of his son, Edward, and on which he has made his home until called by death. His wife died in June
1918 and he has since been cared for by his son.

Mr. Wettstein was a good, honest hardworking man, deeply interested in the welfare of his family and highly respected in the neighborhood in which he lived for half a century. He was a member of St. Elizabeth's church at Kloten and his true Christian life exerted an influence on all who knew him.

He is survived by three sons, Edward of Stockbridge, Anton and Joseph of Brothertown and two daughters, Mrs. Lambert Daun of Stockbridge and Mrs. Roy Miracle of Wausau. He also leaves a stepson, John See of Kloten, a brother, Adrian Wettstein of Marytown, twenty grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

The funeral was held from St. Elizabeth's church, Kloten, on Monday, Rev. Fr. J. H. Huhn officiating at Requiem Mass and interment in St. Elizabeth's cemetery.

Wittmann, Steven G (I130529)

42400 Steve Hartjes, Little Chute, age 56, joined the choir of heavenly angels on Wednesday October 19, 2011. He died peacefully in his home surrounded by immediate family. He was born in Appleton on February 3, 1955 to the late James "Cobby" and Florence (Jansen) Hartjes. Steve married Debbie Van Asten on June 3, 1977 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church. He graduated from Little Chute High School in 1974 and made his career at Fox River Paper, Co. until his retirement in 2007.

Family and music were Steve's passions in life. As a husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend to all, Steve cherished the simple pleasures of life. The backyard was Steve's "Up North". He was happiest with a can of Mountain Dew in hand while listening to his stereo on the backyard patio with family and friends. His love for music began in high school as a member of Soul Singers and continued as a member of the St. John Folk Choir. Steve always had a song in his heart and the ability to share his love through singing. Even during his battle with cancer, Steve inspired those who knew him with his humor, faith, and courage.

Steve is survived by his wife of 34 years, Debbie; children: Mike (Jessie) Hartjes, Nikki (Dylan) Esterling, and Rachel (Joe Cabelka) Hartjes; 4 grandchildren: Macy, Callahan, and Hamilton Hartjes and Natalie Esterling; mother Grace Hartjes; brothers and sisters: Pat (Pete) Litersky, Amy De Bruin, Tim (Joanie) Hartjes, Greg (Karen) Hartjes, Gary Hartjes, and Beth (Steve) McAuley; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Al (Peg) Van Asten, Donna (Russ) Brittnacher, Lee Van Asten, Bonnie Hopfensperger, Keith (Barb) Van Asten, and Paul Fredrick. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents; his father- and mother-in-law: Cyrus and Jeanne Van Asten; and his sister- and brother-in-law: Vickie Fredrick and Greg Hopfensperger.

Visitation will be held Monday October 24, 2011 at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (323 S. Pine St. Little Chute) beginning at 1:00 p.m. until the time of Mass at 5:00 p.m. For on-line condolences, please visit www.oconnellfh.com . In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.

Steve's family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Fox Valley Hematology & Oncology, Affinity Radiology, and ThedaCare at Home for their kindness and compassion. They would also like to thank family, friends, and the parish community for the support they provided during Steve's battle with cancer.

Steve was someone who, when faced with adversity, fought back with courage and dignity and yet always managed to keep a smile on his face. He will be forever loved, and his memory will live on in our hearts.
