| 201 | SOURCE: APPLETON POST CRESCENT OBITUARY Monday, August 22,1994 Mrs. Cy Weyenberg (Christine Swinkles) 'Stenie' 495 Van St. Kaukauna (Hollandtown) Formerly of 11154 Garvey Ave., Kaukauna (Freedom), age 91, passed away in the presence of her family on Sunday, August 21, 1994. She was born July 25, 1903 in Little Chute, daughter of the late Arnold and Elizabeth (Verkuilen) Swinkles and had resided in the Freedom area all of her life. She was united in marriage to Cy Weyenberg on August 29, 1921 sharing 58 years together before his death in 1979. Stenie was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom, the Christian Mothers and the Freedom Golden Agers. She will be remembered as a special, caring person who took an interest in everyone she met. Survivors include three daughters and two sons in-law; Betty Stilp, LaVerne and Ray Romenesko, and Patty and Gary Vande Wettering, all of Kaukauna; eight granchildren; Donna (Dick) Vande Wettering, Maary Kay (Jim) Meulemans, Mike (Patti) Romenesko, Chris Romenesko, Jeff (Kathy) Vande Wettering, Debbie (David) Zunker, Scott (Diane) Vende Wettering, Laurie (Kevin) Veldman; 14 great grandchildren and a great great grandchild, also a special caregiver, Janice Trettin. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. Besides her parents and husband, Stenie was preceded in death by three brothers; Jonn, Walter and Orville Swinkles; two sisters; Mary Van Dinter and Della Krueger, a grandson, Patrick Romenesko, a granddaughter, Jo Ann Romenesko, and a son in-law, Wilfred Stilp. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom, with Rev. William Rickert officiating. Interment will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel from 3 until 9 p.m. Tuesday and until 10:30 Wednesday morning at which time the cortege will leave for the church. Appleton Age 81, passed away Monday, June 5, 1995 at the home of her daughter following a lingering illness. She was born February 15, 1914 in Little Chute, the daughter of the late Frank and Ann [Haberman] De Groot and resided in the Appleton area all of her life. Lucille was united in marriage to Michael Kolosso on January 14, 1937, sharing 57 years together before his death on December 23, 1994. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-laws; Mary and Marvin Gerrits, Black Creek; Jeanne and William Protheroe, Oshkosh; Kathleen and Richard Kanikula, Peshitgo; Peggy and Greg Legan, Carbondale, Illinois; a son and daughter-in-law; Paul and Judy Kolosso, Slinger; two brothers and sisters-in-law; James and Marion De Groot, Francis and Lois De Groot, all of Appleton; three sisters and a brother-in-law; Leona Speel, Appleton; Sr. M. Spring St. Appleton Age 88, died Saturday, July 22, 1995 at a local nursing home following a brief illness. She was born April 9, 1907 in De Pere, daughter of the late Jacob and Minnie Biersteker. On February 28, 1927 Marie married Clarence 'Babe' Van Kamp. He preceded her in death August 26, 1993. Marie was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. For over 30 years, she and her husband operated Babe Van Kamp's Supper Club on Appleton South Side. Weyenberg, 825 Greenfield St., Little Chute Age 74, died Wednesday, November 18, 1992 at the Appleton Medical Center following a short battle with cancer. She was born September 15, 1918 in Oneida, the daughter of the late Peter and Josephine [De Coster] Weneyberg. Loraine married Willard Carney on June 1, 1938 and that marriage was blessed with five children. He preceded her in death on February 11, 1992. She was an avid card player and gardener, and enjoyed cooking and doing crafts. She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom; their Altar Society; the Lady Knights of Columbus and the Freedom Golden Agers. | 212 | SOURCE: HISTORY OF OUTAGAMIE COUNTY Anthony Wallace was born in Ireland, August 15, 1825. Mr. Wallace came to the United States when about twenty years of age, landing at New York City and working on the old Vanderbilt Estate. Later he came west and settled in Michigan, but after a short time came to Outagamie County, Wisconsin and purchased land in Ellington Township which he claimed from the timber and cultivated into an excellent farm, adding from time to time to his acreage. He lived on this property until three years before his death, when he retired and moved to the home of his son Anthony, and there he died August 6, 1907 at the age of of 82 years. He married Mary McKeefry, who was born in Ohio, March 4, 1837, her parents having located in that state after coming from Ireland, and later moved to Wisconsin. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace had six sons and three daughters. The children were as followed; KATHERINE, May 4, 1860; THOMAS, April 27, 1862; JOHN,March 21, 1864; JAMES, April 11, 1866; MARY, October 5, 1868; ANTHONY, November 23, 1870; PATRICK, April 24, 1872; JANE, November 3, 1875; and MICHAEL, June 6, 1878. SOURCE: APPLETON EVENING CRESCENT OBITUARY Monday August 12, 1907 THE DEATH OF AGED PIONEER ANTHONY WALLACE, WHO LIVED IN THIS COUNTRY 55 YEARS, DIED AUGUST 6, 1907 Anthony Wallace, aged 82 years, an old and highly respected pioneer, of Outagamie County, died at the home of his son, Anthony Wallace, in Ellington, on Tuesday, August 6, from heart disease and old age; he had been confined to his bed for four weeks. Mr. Wallace was born in Ireland in 1825, came to America while still a young man. In 1855 he came to Wisconsin, where he settled on a farm in Ellington on which he lived until his death. He is survived by his aged wife and six children, Mrs. Louis Nichols, Patrick, Anthony, Michael and Jane of Ellington and John of San Jose, California. She was born in Appleton on December 29, 1952 to Herman C. and Sadie V. (Ness) Hopfensperger. Marlene loved living in the country, her flower garden and pets. She also enjoyed going for rides, cooking and dining out. Marlene will be sadly missed by a very special friend and life time companion, Raymond Beyer of Black Creek. Together they had a very sweet little girl, Theresa. Marlene lived for many years with Raymond and his family, and was a step mom to his six children. She enjoyed visiting with her mom, Sadie Hopfensperger of Appleton. Marlene is further survived by a son, Shawn; step children, Penny (Al) Teuscheck, Mi,; Laurie (James) Shomin, Kaukauna; Bill Beyer; Jackie (Larry) Skonnetski; John (Dawn) Beyer and Tom (Robin) Beyer, all of Black Creek; brothers, Herman C. | 217 | Source: Appleton Post Crescent Obituary Monday, Jully 10, 1995 Harold J. Vander Veldon 1821 N. Owassia St. Appleton Age 82, died Monday, July 10, 1995 at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Mr. Vander Veldon was born on June 3, 1913 in Kimberly to the late George and Lillian [Boes] Vander Veldon. He married Doris [Rochon] on February 13, 1943 in Appleton. She survives. He was a long time employee of Consolidated Papers. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and was a member of American Legion Post # 38 for over 50 years. He served in the National Guard prior to his service in the Coast Guard during World War II. Mr. Vander Velden was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. The family would like to thank the nurses ad staff on the 4th floor of St. Elizabeth Hospital. Mr. Vander Velden is survived by his wife, Doris; a daughter, Cherlene 'Sherry' Manteuffel, Appleton; a granddaughter, Kelly [James] Seiler, Appleton; and his great grandson, his pride and joy, Connor James Seiler. He is also survived by four sisters, Evelyn Lex, Appleton; Mable Reese, Kimberly; Ruth Rhodes, De Pere; and Mercedes [Ray] Chartier, Little Chute; a brother, Robert Vander Velden, Greenville; and many nieces and nephews. Myrtle married Austin Hietpas, August 22, 1939, at St. Therese Catholic Church, Appleton and he preceded her in death in 1976. Austin owned and operated the Hietpas Restaurant in Little Chute. She was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute. God was her priority and praying the rosary was an important part of her life. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling and playing cards. | 226 | SOURCE: APPLETON POST CRESCENT OBITUARY Tuesday, October 11, 1927 MILL MAN KILLED ON RETURN FROM FUNERAL Peter Vander Velden Dies Before Doctor Reaches Him Companion Injured Funeral services for Peter Vander Velden, 40, former sulphite superintendent at Kimberly Clark Paper Co., at Kimberly, who was killed in an automobile wreck on County Trunk J Monday afternoon, will be held at 9 o'clock Thursday morning at Holy Name Church at Kimberly. Interment will be in the Little Chute Cemetery. Mr. Vander Velden recently was transferred to the Niagara mill of the Kimberly Clark Co. and moved his family to that city about six weeks ago. Mr. Vander Velden, who had worked at Kimberly for about 25 years, was acquainted with several of the men who were killed and injured in the collapse of the beater room last Friday and he went to Kimberly to attend the funerals of those he knew. Monday afternoon he went to Oneida wheh he attended the funeral of Norbert Goffard, killed in the disaster and a personal friend. John Dercks, 30, Little Chute, accompanied Mr. Vander Velden. While returing from the funeral services Mr. Vander Velden and Mr. Dercks stopped at the Elm Grove cheese factory, and then continued west on the side road. When they reached the intersection with County Trunk J, about six miles north of Kaukauna, Vander Velden's machine collided with a car driven by Raymond School, 19, of Oneida. Both machines were almost totally demolished and both turned over, Vander Velden's skull was fractured and he died before a physician reached him. Derck suffered serious skull wounds, two fractured ribs and body bruises. For a time it was thought he might die, but attending doctors stated Tuesday morning that his condition was greatly improved and it was expected that he woul recover. School was cut about the head and his hand was badly mangled. Dercks was taken to his home in Little Chute and School was taken to the home of his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Martin School, town of Oneida. School, it is said was on his way to Kaukauna. Mr. Vander Velden had gone to Kimberly alone, but his widow and children arrived in Kimberly Monday night. Shane attended Holy Angels School in Darboy and graduated from Kimberly High School in 1997. He earned his BA in construction management from UW Stout, Menomonie, in 2002 and was an engineer with Turner Construction, Chicago. Shane took great pride in working on the Lambeau Field project and constructing the family cottage on Roberts Lake. He enjoyed hunting, skiing, snowmobiling, playing hockey, traveling, hanging out with friends and spending time with family and friends at the cottage. He was ordained to the priesthood June 7, 1929 by the Most Rt. Rev. Paul Pete Rhode at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Green Bay. He offered his first Holy Mass At St. Joseph's Church, June 11. Father Schueller served as assistant to Rev. Michael Schmitz, Sacred Heart Church, Oshkosh, to Msgr. C. Saile, St. John's, Antigo, Rev. Hunk, St. Mary's, Chilton. Then he was administrator at St. Boniface, Manitowoc. Father Schueller's first pastorate was at St. Mary's, Custer, Wis., then to St. Anthony, Marinette, since 1952. The office of the Dead will be recited at 10:30 a.m. Thursday and the Pontifical Requiem Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. by the Most Rev. Stanislaus V. Bona, Bishop of the Green Bay Diocese. WEYENBERG IS CALLED BY DEATH AT HOME TUESDAY Pioneer Shoe Manufacturer and Retailer Passed Away After Three Weeks Illness William Weyenberg, 74 years old, pioneer shoe retailer and manufacturer of the city, died at his home shortly before 5 o'clock Tuesday afternoon after an illness of more than three weeks. Mr. Weyenberg came to Chippewa Falls from Appleton in 1885 and engaged in the retail shoe business on Spring Street at the same location now occupied by the Weyenberg Shoe Store. After about ten years he organized the Weyenberg Shoe Manufacturing Factory Co., the factory being located over the store. The business developed and after disposing of his retail business the manufacturing business was moved to Milwaukee in 1900. After living there two years, Mr. Weyenberg disposed of his interest in the Weyenberg Shoe Manufacturing Co., to his brother, Martin, and his nephew, F.L. Weyenberg, and returned to Chippewa Falls. Organizes L.W. Company. After returning here, he purchased the retail shoe business of the E. Poznanski Co., which he conducted for two years and then organized the L.W. Shoe Co., with the factory located over his store. This company grew until the upstairs plant was outgrown, and then the large and modern factory building on E. Central Street was erected. In 1921 the L.W. Shoe Co., was disposed of to the Olson Shoe Co., which later was acquired by the Foshay Shoe Co., which later failed when the Foshay intrests collapsed. The building is now vacant pending disposition of the Foshay holdings. After disposing of his interests in the L.W. Co., Mr. Weyenberg retired for two years and then purchased the business of the Greenwald Shoe Co., which was located on Bridge Street. This business was moved to his own building on Spring Street and he was active in it management until forced to retire by illness on March 25. Mr. Weyenberg was active in business affairs of this city and was instrumental in organization of the Chippewa Paper Box Co., and the Chippewa Glove Factory. Last year he assisted in the organization of the Lakeside Shoe Co., which is now manufacturing hand made shoes in the factory over the shoe store. Born at Little Chute Mr. Weyenberg was born at Little Chute, Wisconsin March 25, 1859, and spent practically all of his life in Wisconsin. He obtained his education in the public schools at Appleton and his first employment was in a large chair factory there. After three years with that concern, he went to Milwaukee where he followed the same line of work for two years when he returned to Appleton to work for his old employer. After a year the factory was destroyed by fire and it was then he became conected with the retail shoe business. On June 3, 1884, he married Miss Angeline De Kelver at Green Bay, Wisconsin, and the following year they came to Chippewa Falls and he opened a retail shoe store under his own name. Besides his extensive business activities, Mr. Weyenberg was prominent in Catholic circles throughout his life. Being a member of Catholic Knights of Wisconsin, Catholic Order of Foresters and the Catholic Federation of Wisconsin. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge. Surviving are two sons, William A. and Leo C. of this city and three daughters, Helen now Sr. Cornelia of the Notre Dame Order; Mrs. Charles H. Danner and Mrs. E.F. Stumpf of this city. Survivors include a daughter; Mary Richards and husband, Duane, Menasha, whom she made her home with for the last five years; two sons; Robert and wife, Barbara, Menasha; Thomas and wife, Jackie, Appleton; a brother; Arnold Nettekoven, Black Creek; a sister; Mrs. Delia Merkes, Appleton; five grandchildren; Stacy, Mark and Scott Baldwin, Menasha; Laurie and Brian Baldwin, Appleton. She was preceded in death by her husband; Evan, January 6, 1968. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Laemmrich Funeral Home and 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Menasha with the Rev. Van Zeeland 'Ray' W823 Highway 96, Kaukauna Age 55, died Driday, August 21, 1992 at his home following a two year courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 5, 1937 in Kaukauna, the son of the lat Frank and Emme [Diedrich] Van Zeeland. He was a Kaukauna High School graduate and he married Janice Eiting on June 3, 1959. He was employed by White Clover Dairy for 31 years. Ray was co-owner of Holland Veal. He was an avid sportsman especially enjoying hunting and fishing. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Janice; his mother in-law, Magdalen Eiting, Hollandtown; three sons and two daughters in-law, Clifford and Lois Van Zeeland; Dan and Sandy Van Zeeland; Frank Van Zeeland, and special friend, Holly Koehnke, all of Kaukauna; two daughters and sons in-law, Mary and Russell Keberlein, Kaukauna; Peggy and Kurt Van Camp, Freedom; eight grandchildren; two brothers and sisters in-law, Ves and Theresa Van Zeeland, Gene and Marion Van Zeeland, all of Kaukauna; two sisters, Evelyn Sprangers, Kaukauna; Grace Hockers, De Pere. He was preceded in death by his father in-law, Elmer Eiting. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna with Father Jack Mullarkey officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at the Fargo Funeral Home, 400 W.
