Obituary Chris J Hartwig
Obituary Chris J Hartwig
Chris J. Hartwig

Appleton - Chris Hartwig passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at the age of 79 following many years of health challenges.

Chris was born December 29, 1942, the first child of Hans Henry Hartwig and Joan Marie (Peotter) Hartwig. He was raised on Leminwah Street in Appleton. Chris was a mischievous child and enjoyed playing in his neighborhood near Riverside Cemetery and spending time at the gas station at the end of his block learning about cars, which sparked a lifelong mechanical aptitude and interest. He inherited an inquisitive mind from his father and an indomitable work ethic from his mother as he watched them start their business, Crystal Print, Inc., out of their garage in 1949. He attended Edison Elementary School and excelled in basketball until he was stricken with polio in the summer of 1953. His battle with polio was one of the factors that led to his health problems later in life.

Chris attended Roosevelt Middle School and Appleton High School (now Appleton West High School), where he participated in basketball and theater. He was blessed with a brilliant mind, but wasn't always interested in classroom learning. He graduated in 1961 and went on to attend his father's alma mater, Lawrence University, where he studied chemistry before leaving to fulfill his dream of working in the paper industry. He worked for large pulp and converting companies on the east coast and eventually returned to Appleton, joining his father at Crystal Print, which had by then left the garage and moved to Little Chute. They worked side-by-side for years until his father passed away in 1976. Chris purchased the business in 1979, and he grew it from a small company into a premier manufacturing business in the Fox Valley. He was an expert in printing and packaging and used his knowledge to transform Crystal Print into one of the first vertically integrated flexible packaging companies in the country.

Chris was gifted by God with great intelligence and a fierce entrepreneurial spirit. He gained his knowledge the old-fashioned way: extensive reading and talking to people. He never learned how to use a computer or a smartphone. A thirst for knowledge drove him, and he could converse on a great variety of topics from chemistry to construction management to history and foreign affairs.

Chris showed deep enthusiasm and drive in everything he did, and his passion for his business was the cornerstone of his life. He was blessed with many loyal and equally passionate employees, to whom he was eternally grateful. Chris was hard to work for, and he was known for being a very tough businessman and an uncompromising perfectionist, but those close to him knew that underneath a rough exterior was a soft heart. He considered his employees a part of his family, and he would do nearly anything to help them if they were in need. Chris's passion led him to be engaged in his business until the very last day of his life.

The most important person in his life was his wife, Evie. They met in 1972 and were married on May 29, 1982 in Appleton. She was the love of his life, his conscience, and the force that helped his dreams become a reality. Even in the very difficult years leading up to his death and during his darkest days, he always let Evie know how much she meant to him. To their children, Chris and Evie served as an example of true loyalty and commitment.

He and Evie raised two devoted children, Dana and Hans. The birth of his children changed Chris's priorities in life. He grew deeply committed to leaving his world better than it was when he entered it. Dana and Hans now carry on Chris's legacy at Crystal Print as the third generation of family ownership. Chris had a strong inner child and injected a sense of magic and wonder into the childhoods of Dana and Hans, his nieces and nephews, and their friends. He was always looking to create a new memory or experience for them.

Chris's passion for local philanthropy had a significant impact on Little Chute and the greater Fox Valley. He guided and funded numerous municipal projects in Little Chute including Little Chute Elementary School, Little Chute Public Library, Little Chute Windmill, and Village Hall. He donated land for new parks and playground equipment and was very proud to purchase new fire trucks and police cars for the Village. Chris envisioned a community where people felt safe and desired to raise their families. When Dana and Hans entered school, Chris became a benefactor of private education in the Fox Valley, and he was instrumental in funding the building and remodeling of several local schools, including schools within the Xavier Catholic Education System, Fox Valley Lutheran High School, and Appleton Christian School. He created the Hartwig Family Foundation and the Crystal Print Foundation, and donated much of his wealth to hundreds of worthy causes and organizations. He served as a mentor and guide to many family members, friends, and business associates, who relied on him in their time of greatest need. Chris rarely took public credit for his generosity, as for him the satisfaction of helping others was recognition enough.

Chris's passion extended into all areas of his life. His thirst for knowledge and interest in people made him a walking encyclopedia. His greatest pastime was taking long drives all over the Fox Valley, hoping to enhance his learning and connect with others by visiting businesses and people he cared about.

Chris loved adventure and living on the edge. He could become quick with excitement and hearty laughter. He loved to drive fast, and one of his favorite outings was cruising College Avenue and eating at Frank's Pizza Palace with his kids. Fourth of July was an important holiday for Chris, but he loved lighting off fireworks for any occasion. He wasn't afraid to take risks and would often get himself into trouble by pushing the limits and saying whatever he thought, even if it was unacceptable or inappropriate. Although he was an extrovert, at times he struggled with loneliness and connection to others because his mind worked differently. He valued commitment and perseverance; the safety of his loved ones was of the utmost importance to him. He was hard on people but equally hard on himself.

In 1991, Chris founded a vintage racing team with employees and friends, and together they raced at Road America and many other tracks around the country. He loved cars, especially Mustangs. Chris was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed attending Packers, Bucks, and Badgers games and NASCAR races.

He was proud to serve on the boards of directors of many local organizations, including Road America, Riverside Cemetery, Appleton YMCA, Lawrence University, and Appleton Medical Center. He was also a long-standing member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO), through which he and his family had numerous once-in-a-lifetime experiences, such as meeting U.S. presidents and foreign heads of state, including members of the British Royal Family. He was happy to discover his ancestral roots in Hildesheim, Germany on his honeymoon and forged a lifelong bond with his German cousins and their descendants. Finally, he enjoyed annual trips with his family, extended family, and friends to Disney World, Vero Beach, Florida, New York City, Sabourin Lake in Canada, and Beaver Creek, Colorado.

Chris felt very blessed to become a grandfather in the final years of his life. He found delight in visits from his grandchildren, Evie and Henry, who brought him a sense of joy that he hadn't felt since the birth of his own children.

Despite his health challenges in the last decade of his life, Chris was driven to succeed and never give up until the very end. Whatever he set his mind to, he did it with passion and he perfected it. Chris was always making plans for tomorrow.

Chris is survived by his wife Evelyn (Zuleger) Hartwig; his two children: Hans Christian Hartwig (Appleton), Dana Christa Hartwig (Appleton) and her husband, Michael Sutcliffe, and their two children, Evelyn Louise Sutcliffe and Henry Hartwig Sutcliffe.

He is further survived by his sister Bettina Hartwig (Scottsdale, Arizona); his aunt, Patricia Peotter Marshall (Madison); and dearest cousin, John (Julie) Marshall (Madison). He is also survived by Evie's brothers and sisters who were an important part of his life: Rev. Donald Zuleger, Marlene Zuleger, Robert (Mary) Zuleger, Mary (Scott) Spaay, Debbie (Steve) Buckoski, Kathy (Wynn) Beuge, Tom (Tracie) Zuleger, Ann (David) Funk, and John (Anne) Zuleger. He is survived by many cousins and his 24 nieces and nephews including his beloved goddaughter, Kathryn (Jon) Horan.

He is further survived by his childhood best friend, Bill McKenny, and many loyal lifelong friends, including Pat Hietpas and Gary Wynveen. His family would also like to acknowledge all of Chris's employees who were instrumental in his success, including retired employees and colleagues: Jack Gehl, Hub Hennessey, Paul Mahlberg, Jim Miller, Dan Gavronski, Bill Melzer, John Rouman, Dave Holmes, Linda Tucker, Duane Vander Zanden and many more.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ray and Dolores (Van Handel) Zuleger. He was further preceded in death by his dear brother-in-law, Greg Gratton.

The family would like to thank the entire team at Eagle Court Memory Care in Appleton, particularly Trevor and Ashley, for all the care and compassion they showed Chris these past five months.

Obituary David Egan 1950
Obituary David Egan 1950
Dave Egan - At daybreak I am the sole owner of all the acres I can walk over. It is not only the boundaries that disappear, but also the thought of being bounded - Aldo Leopold His father expected he would become a lawyer; however, Dave Egan had a very different kind of life in mind. In the end he followed his heart and his natural curiosity. His reward was a lifetime of physical adventure, important work and many close friends and family. To him, it was all akin to a king’s ransom. When Dave was about 6 years old, the Egan family moved to a house one door from the end of 18th Street in Kaukauna. Just down the hill, was a woods and prairie owned by Polly Lerher, a local farmer. Through it flowed Konkapot Creek and it was traversed by a rail track that serviced the paper mill. In those formative years we tirelessly hiked, explored, sledded and loved that ground. It stirred in Dave a lifelong passion for the wild places. For him, especially, it remained a touchstone the rest of his life. Dave would devote his life to the study and practice of Ecological Restoration. There, as a writer and editor he gained the respect and admiration of his colleagues for his tireless passion and unique insights. Especially those that expanded the recognition and understanding of human dynamics to the success of ecological restoration. After high school, Dave attended Ripon College. He was always an exceptional student, but also a restless soul. After little more than a year he left there to tramp the country. For well more than a year, he rode buses, hitchhiked, worked odd jobs. On returning to Wisconsin, he married and became a father to his son Jeffers. He drove a milk truck and tried his hand at woodworking. In 1983, Dave and his family moved to Madison where he entered the University of Wisconsin’s School of Landscape Architecture at Madison. There he began his studies in Ecological Restoration. In 1988 he completed his master’s degree. Once Dave settled on his calling, he advanced quickly. By 1984 Dave was working with Bill Jordan as Assistant Editor and writer of the Restoration & Management Notes/Ecological Restoration Journal at the UW Arboretum/UW Press. When Bill stepped down, Dave became editor of the journal and retained that position until 2006. That year he took a similar job at the Ecological Restoration Institute, at the University of Northern Arizona at Flagstaff, Ariz., where he remained until 2022. Dave was a prolific writer and editor. At the Ecological Restoration Institute there are 26 publications attributed to him, all or in part. At the University of Wisconsin Dave, along with is duties at the journal, he co-edited several important books that still remain influential in the field of Ecological Restoration. Dave served as co-editor with UW Botanist and Professor Evelyn Howell on “The Historical Ecology Handbook: A Restorationist’s Guide to Reference Ecosystems.” (2005). Dave also co-edited with Evan E. Hjerpe “Human Dimensions of Ecological Restoration.” (2011). In a tribute to Dave’s work Professor Don Falk, School of Natural Resources and the Environment at NAU wrote: “Dave Egan was a true pioneer in the field of ecological restoration ... Dave’s work was also always mindful, in some ways uniquely so, of the social and cultural context in which restoration is carried out.” Dave was a prodigious reader all his life and a dedicated photographer. He loved to make photographic records of his many excursions. For several years he lived in Kanab, Utah. There he went on many long hikes with the back country ranger into the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. He shot a spectacular collection of photographs of that beautiful and rugged country that includes many ancient Native American rock paintings, petroglyphs and pictographs. Dave lived the last six and a half years of his life in a 500 sq. ft. cabin on a small mountain outside Silver City, New Mexico at Lake Roberts and on the edge of the Gila National Forest. It was a place he loved and knew thoroughly. In all these places Dave made many friends and he treasured all of them dearly. Dave maintained an interest in the Packers, basketball and tennis. He joyed games of cribbage, sheepshead and backgammon, both with friends, family and their children. His interests varied from the great Gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt to Bullwinkle the Moose and everything in between. Dave was a joiner, a participator, and famously generous with his time. He served on the city council in Middleton, Wis. And the Lake Roberts Water Users Association. He volunteered at the Redfeather Development Group in Flagstaff and at the Escalante National Monument. He religiously attended ecstatic dances in Silver City. Dave always made himself available for friends in need of a hand moving or someone to stay with their kids for an afternoon. When his sisters were in need of assistance caring for our aging parents, he made three, weeks long trips, back to Kaukauna to relieve them. He shunned formality. Possessed a quiet but obvious intelligence. Cared nothing for money or wealth of that sort. He was always interesting, optimistic and game for a good adventure. For Dave there was always another canyon to hike ... another river to run. He could also be impatient and sometimes irritable but didn’t hold grudges and wasn’t petty in any important way. He was natural leader and the guy who insisted on being at the wheel of the car or boat. He was a remarkable and caring father, brother, uncle, friend and companion. But now he is unbound. He will be deeply missed. Somewhere in cartoon land Bullwinkle the Moose sheds a tear for his most ardent fan. David John Egan died, in the presence of family members, Dec. 20, 2022, at the Surgical Trauma Center, University of New Mexico at Albuquerque. Obituary Florence Heckrodt, former Mrs. Wisconsin
Obituary Florence Heckrodt, former Mrs. Wisconsin
Florence T. Heckrodt passed away peacefully at the age of 94, with loving family at her side on September 16, 2022. Formerly a resident of Delray Beach, Florida and Appleton, Wisconsin, Florence had relocated to Cumming, Georgia in 2019 to be with family after the passing of her beloved husband of over 40 years, Frank H. Heckrodt.
Florence was born in Kaukauna, Wisconsin on February 16, 1928, to the late Richard and Margaret (Brennan) Golden. She grew up on a dairy farm in Hollandtown, Wisconsin and after graduating from Kaukauna High School continued her education with advertising and marketing courses at the University of Wisconsin and the American Management Association.
In 1957 she went to work as the Advertising Manager for Elm Tree Baking Co, in Appleton, where she was responsible for building both of their advertising and promotions departments. In 1961, with seemingly endless energy and drive, this full-time advertising executive and mother of five decided to enter and compete in the Mrs. Wisconsin pageant. Competing in Milwaukee with a field of over 250 other contestants from around the state, she won the title of Mrs. Wisconsin 1961. From there she went on to compete in the Mrs. America contest in Fort Lauderdale, where she placed as one of the top finalists. As Mrs. Wisconsin, and as one local paper reported "she charmed the state" as she fulfilled her duties. She worked at Elm Tree Bakery as Director of Advertising until 1969, when it was purchased by Rich's Products of Buffalo, New York. Florence then went on to hold Advertising and Marketing positions with the University Bank of Green Bay and Presto Products of Appleton until her retirement.
In retirement, Florence and Frank combined their talents to quietly advance many local organizations including; The Heckrodt Wetlands Reserve of Menasha, Wisconsin, The Boy Scouts of America, The St. Joseph's Food Panty and many others. Together they loved traveling, particularly visiting their combined families of seven children. Retirement also allowed Florence to return to her many interests as an avid golfer, reader, decorator and an amazing cook! She also became a devoted Badger and Packer fan through Frank. But, of all of her accomplishments, she would most want to be remembered for being the kind, loving, caring and generous; wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who was a role model for her family and many others.
Florence is survived by her five children: Sheryl (Frank) Hills of Cumming, Georgia; Tom (Mary) Sommers of Appleton; Jean (Steve) Harmon of Canton, Georgia; Rebecca (Burleigh) Arnold of Los Angeles, California; Sue Sommers of Avon, Colorado; and grandchildren: Ryan (Lori) Sommers, Eric Sommers, Forrest (Amelia) Harmon, Blake (Jennifer) Harmon, Ashley Arnold; and 5 great-grandchildren; Kate, Frank, Matthew, Jacob and Forrest Jr. Her step-children are: Curt (Jennifer) Heckrodt of Niwot, Colorado; Carla Heckrodt of Portland, Oregon. Our family wishes to extend our deepest appreciation to the Agape hospice staff of Cumming, Georgia for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Florence and her family. Obituary from the Verkuilen Funeral Home website.
Obituary from the Verkuilen Funeral Home website.
Chris Hartwig passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at the age of 79 following many years of health challenges.

He was blessed with a brilliant mind, but wasn’t always interested in classroom learning. He graduated in 1961 and went on to attend his father’s alma mater, Lawrence University, where he studied chemistry before leaving to fulfill his dream of working in the paper industry.

Chris’s passion led him to be engaged in his business until the very last day of his life.

Chris had a strong inner child and injected a sense of magic and wonder into the childhoods of Dana and Hans, his nieces and nephews, and their friends. He was always looking to create a new memory or experience for them. The birth of his children changed Chris’s priorities in life. He grew deeply committed to leaving his world better than it was when he entered it. Dana and Hans now carry on Chris’s legacy at Crystal Print as the third generation of family ownership.

Chris’s passion for local philanthropy had a significant impact on Little Chute and the greater Fox Valley.

Chris loved adventure and living on the edge. He could become quick with excitement and hearty laughter. He loved to drive fast, and one of his favorite outings was cruising College Avenue and eating at Frank’s Pizza Palace with his kids. Fourth of July was an important holiday for Chris, but he loved lighting off fireworks for any occasion. He wasn’t afraid to take risks and would often get himself into trouble by pushing the limits and saying whatever he thought, even if it was unacceptable or inappropriate.

He found delight in visits from his grandchildren, Evie and Henry, who brought him a sense of joy that he hadn’t felt since the birth of his own children.

He is also survived by Evie’s brothers and sisters who were an important part of his life: Rev.

David L. Mayer, better known as “Bud,” sadly passed away on April 27, 2022 at the age of 84, but not without a fight as his passion for life was incredible! Born on January 13, 1938 to Lorenz (Corn) Mayer and Helen Walsh Mayer. Bud grew up in Kaukauna, WI where he graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1957. The very next day, he left to serve in the US Air Force for 3 years, ending in honorable discharge. Bud met Janis Lynch, the love of his life, in bed. True story…it was a hospital bed and Janis was the nurse! They married in 1960 and lived in Kaukauna, Combined Locks and Wrightstown while raising 3 children together. Or should we say Janis raised 4 children while being married to Bud AND all the “Kaukauna High Classmates” that meant the world to him. Bud’s career began at Giddings and Lewis of Kaukauna where he also served as the union’s president. He happily retired from AC Compressor of Appleton, only to go “FULL TIME” on the golf course, of course! When not participating, he officiated many sports over the years, including WIAA basketball, softball and his #1 passion being Amateur Boxing. Above all, “THE GREATEST HIGH” in Bud’s life was his wife, children and grandchildren...followed by cribbage, playing Santa, the Lions Club and more golf!

Bud is survived by his wife, Janis Mayer; his children: Bradley (Julie) Mayer, Lynn (Eric Hunner) Mayer and Vicki (Ric) Giordana; his grandchildren: Keane (Elizabeth) Mayer, Kayla Mayer, Krista (special friend George Owen) Mayer, Lacey (Michael Martinez) O’Connor, Riley (Jonathan) Ciak, Kyle (special friend Ally George) Anschutz and Ethan Anschutz; great grandchildren: Layla Mayer, Roland and Arthur Ciak; sisters: Nancy Jansen and Marlene Stuiber; and a sister-in-law, Karen Lynch. Bud is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death his parents; his mother and father-in-law: Joseph and Elizabeth Bruehl Lynch; his grandson, Ryan Mayer; brothers-in-law: Joddy Jansen and Ken Stuiber; in laws: Sylvester and Marian Lynch, Mildred and Elmer Wittman, Gordon Lynch, and Elizabeth and Steve Talbot.

Please come celebrate with us on Friday, May 6, 2022 at Verkuilen Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna. Visitation will begin at 9 am until the time of service at 11 am with full military honors to follow.

The family would like to personally thank Ben and Claire of Thedacare At Home Hospice Care, for their continued loving service over the past year as well as the staff of Cherry Meadows Hospice Care.

Obituary Grace Hoffman
Obituary Grace Hoffman
Grace Hoffman passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at the age of 102. She was born June 2, 1919 in Little Chute to the late John J. and Cora Hammen. She was the third born of nine children, and lived in Little Chute almost all of her life. Grace graduated from St. John High School in 1937, and was employed at Kimberly-Clark for 10 years. On October 8, 1949, she married Dr. Elmer "Doc" Hoffman and together they celebrated 48 years of marriage. He was the love of her life and preceded her in death in 1997.
After the early death of Grace's parents, Grace and Doc opened their home to her younger brothers Gene and Roger until they married, and brother Carl, until his death in 1997. Grace also helped care for her youngest sister, Jane. Though never having had any children of her own, Grace's nurturing nature was evident in the many kindnesses she showed to her family throughout her life.
Grace was a life-long member of St. John Parish in Little Chute, a member of the St. Elizabeth Society, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Fox Valley Golf Club and the Outagamie County Dental Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling, golfing, bowling, and most of all, the time she spent with her family. Both Grace and Doc also treasured the many winters they spent vacationing together in Arizona.
Grace loved a good game of Scrabble and laughingly couldn't understand why so many of her prized words were not in the official Scrabble dictionary. She was very proud of the fact that she could remember and recite the soliloquy from Shakespeare's Macbeth, a school recitation she had learned over 85 years before. Singing was also a very important part of Grace's life. She loved singing as a child growing up, singing with her family at parties, and later being a member of the Villa Voices choir at the St. Paul Villa. Grace was an excellent cook, with her treasured recipes for strawberry pie, Thanksgiving stuffing, Blind Date Cake, etc. now being shared and enjoyed by so many.
Grace and Doc were known to be very humble people, preferring to stay out of the limelight even when their charitable works were worthy of extraordinary recognition. A legacy of generosity is left behind to be paid forward in the lives of those they have touched.
Grace is survived by one brother, Gordon (Margaret) Hammen, Little Chute; sisters-in-law, Josephine Hammen, Little Chute, and Phyllis Hoffman of Wisconsin Rapids; and brother-in-law, James (Josephine) Hoffman, Menomonee Falls. In addition to many loving nieces and nephews, Grace is further survived by her five Godchildren; Ellen Vanderhyden, Patty Aman, Thomas Hoffman, Karen Bencke and Julie Pesch.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Elmer; brothers, Roger (Betty) Hammen, Eugene Hammen and Carl Hammen; sisters, Barbara (Orville) Bongers, Elizabeth (Joseph) VanThiel, Marian (Harold) Vanden Heuvel and Jane Hammen; brothers-in-law, Lowell (Eunice) Hoffman and Joseph Hoffman; sisters-in-law, Frances (Lloyd) Barrickman, Loyas (Donald) Congdon, Celesta and Loretta Hoffman.
Rest in Peace, Grace. A home with Him awaits you. For 102 years He believed in you but more importantly, you believed in Him.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (411 Vandenbroek Street, Little Chute) beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Ronald Belitz will officiate. Masks are recommended. Committal St. John Cemetery.
To all the caregivers and staff at St. Paul Elder Services, thank you for everything you did for Grace during her years as a resident there. She enjoyed her days at St. Paul, and you truly made it a place for her to call home. The family would also like to thank Dr. Jack Meyer and Dr. Jessica Petersen for the many kindnesses and careful attention shown to Grace over the years. She had a great deal of confidence in your expertise and was grateful to have you looking out for her.

Obituary of son Louis Robert Froehlich
Obituary of son Louis Robert Froehlich
Our beloved son, Louis Robert Froehlich, was tragically taken from us too soon as the result of being struck by a drunk driver. Louis was born on August 14, 2003, son of Scott and Amy (Gust) Froehlich. He graduated from Appleton West High School with the class of 2021. He is an active parishioner of St. Edward Catholic Community.

Louis was the kind of kid who was just so happy. Happy to help. Happy to play. Happy to love. He loved being with others whether it was family camping trips, playing baseball or swimming in the pool with his big brother. He grew into the kind of kid who was always the first to be a helper or share a toy. We were the most proud of him to witness how he would extend his hand to pick up a fellow teammate, a great example of sportsmanship. He had such fun playing all kinds of sports all through his short life, because he was part of a team, helping to reach a goal. His fearless approach to life permeated the activities he chose like BMX trick biking & competitive diving, pushing the limits of gravity. Although, what we will remember about him most is his way of loving others fearlessly. He wins the award for the longest hugs. Louis went on to begin his vocation as a craftsman in painting cabinetry. Building everything from bicycles, RC cars and building friendships that were among the young and old. You could find him biking throughout the neighborhood stopping to teach a kid a bike trick to helping a neighbor clear a driveway full of snow, turning it into something fun. RC car racing tracks were just as much about the races as it was about being with his family of RC car drivers. Here he goes again, helping friends figure out the best way to win on those laps. He was a hard worker, dedicated to his coworker team to make clients happy with their home cabinetry. Then there is his love of music and teaching himself how to drum at the age of 9! Structured lessons were not his thing, he was going to learn it on his own and that he did. He was hopeful in his new friendship to take it on the road and there again bring happiness to others through his music! He learned so many life lessons in his 19 years and grew even closer in his faith along the way. He reached so many goals he set but most of all he reached the goal God sets for all of us to simply love others.

Louis leaves behind his parents, Scott and Amy Froehlich; brother, Cole Froehlich; grandparents: Ronald and Colleen Froehlich; great grandparents: Donald and Geraldine Pennings and Rita Froehlich; aunts and uncles: Peter (Elizabeth), James (Roberta), Catherine (Robert), Philip (Beverly), Thomas, Christopher (Lori), Hope (James), Monica (Jeffrey), Beth (Terry) (Godparents), and Nathan Froehlich; and numerous cousins that were all very close to him.

Louis was preceded in death by his grandparents, Peter Louis and Vivian Gust; great grandfather, Donald Froehlich.

The family would like to thank Tom's health care team, especially Dr. David Anderla, the compassionate nurses and other clinicians who attended to him in his final hours at ThedaCare, and their thoughtful neighbors, notably Jason Jansen for his help around the house.

"While Tom was hospitalized at ThedaCare Regional Med. Ctr.- Appleton, he had 3 very outstanding nurses. While I have to apologize for not having your last names, I want Tim on 3rd Floor, John in ICU and Erin in ICU to know you were so appreciated. One often hears the phrase "Angels Walk Among Us." You 3 definitely fall into this category. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! 10 star rating for you all!" -Kathy
