John C. Anholzer, 90, has gone to his heavenly resting place on December 20, 2022, surrounded by his loving family at St. Paul Elder Services in Kaukauna. John was born on May 17, 1932 in Appleton Wisconsin and was a beautiful addition to the family of Elmer Anholzer and Mary (Grosser) Anholzer. After graduating from high school, John enlisted into the United States Navy where he proudly served as an aviation machinist and on the air transport squadron. While enlisted he was awarded with the distinguished Good Conduct Medal.
On May 12 1956 John married his sweetheart, Joan Resch. After his discharge from the Navy, he went on to work as a four color pressman at Banta for 37 years. While he was devoted to his job, he had an amazing dedication to his family. Joan and John became the proud parents to 2 beautiful girls Deb and Linda and 2 handsome sons Mike and Steve. John lived and breathed for his family and of all the places in the world with them was where he preferred to be. While John dedicated a great deal of his time to his family, he still was able to make time to enjoy other things he cherished. With a trailer at the Pearl Lake Campground, the family spent a lot of time enjoying nature and time together. He also had a fondness for his motorcycle and would light up the day for the other kids at the campground when he would give them rides around. John was also a noble member of the American Legion Honor Guard and with American Legion post 38. In his spare time, he also volunteered at BRAVO doing roadside assistance and as a driver delivering blood to the Community Blood Center for 15 years. Those who know John are aware of his wonderful ability to make people laugh and his love for serving others. There were always smiles and laughter when John was nearby! John also was especially fond of his beloved Betty Schultz whom he shared his life with for 20 years. John and Betty were so grateful to enjoy so many years laughing and loving each other.

He is survived by daughters Deb (Rick) Fischer and Linda (Kenny) Goffard; grandchildren Tara (Keith) Wenzel, Erin Keil, Heather (Lee) Bogard, Nicole (Nitesh) Thakur; great-grandchildren Caleb and Mackenzie Keil; sister-in-law Helen Anholzer; daughter-in-law Laura Anholzer. He is also survived by in-laws Ann DeGroot, Sandra (Kenny) DeGoey, Jeanne (Wayne) Smith, Donny (Adrienne) Resch, Tommy Resch, and Gary (Sandy) Resch.

John was preceded in death by sons Mike Anholzer and Steve Anholzer, his beloved wife Joan, brothers Bill (Della) Anholzer and Bob Anholzer. He was also preceded by his loving sisters Phyllis (Mike) Goehler and Helen (Bob) Young; sweetheart Betty Schultz as well as many in-laws.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the caring angels at St. Paul Elder Services. Each one of you touched our lives in a special way, and we will never forget you love, care, and compassion.

Donald “Don” Vander Missen passed away peacefully on December 15, 2022, at his home of natural causes. Don was born on April 20, 1938, to Clarence and Mary (Verheyen) Vander Missen in De Pere, Wisconsin. Don graduated from Premontre High School, Green Bay, Wisconsin, in 1956. He married Carole (Nelson) in 1963, and God blessed them with two beautiful children, Judy and Paul. The marriage ended after 30 years, but they remained close friends and supportive of each other until his death. Don always was with his family on all holidays and birthdays.

Don began his career with Wisconsin Public Service Corporation in 1965 in their Sales Department and was promoted to Commercial Representative in 1968 in their Lakeshore Division in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. He relocated to their Green Bay Division when an opening occurred in 1979. One of Don’s proud accomplishments was the exterior lighting of St. Willebrord Catholic Church, Downtown Green Bay. He retired in his early 70’s.

God granted Don’s wishes to die while still living in his own home and not to get cancer. Don was still an active member of Resurrection Catholic Parish, Allouez. He never missed a weekend nor a Holy Day Mass. Don’s faith and religion were of utmost importance to him.

Fishing and camping were some of Don’s favorite leisure activities. He loved fishing with his brother, Dick. Don took his daughter Judy camping several weeks in summers for many years, including 2022. They fished every day that weather permitted but Judy usually out-fished him! In spite of that, they both enjoyed their fish fries together. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and proud of attending the 1967 Ice Bowl. Walking four miles daily was another activity Don enjoyed, especially the many people he met during his walks at the Kroc Center and YMCA.

Survivors include his daughter, Judy Vander Missen; son, Paul Vander Missen; sisters, Mary (Vander Missen) (Howard) Daanen, Karen (Vander Missen) (Thomas- deceased) Bellisle; nieces and nephews, Shelly (Vander Missen) (Bryan) Becker, Mike Vander Missen (Michelle), James Vander Missen (Molly), Lisa (Vander Missen) (Eric) Trousil, Todd Daanen (Mary), Linda (Daanen) (Dale) Joachim, Brenda Bellisle (Pat Nichols), Brad Bellisle, Randy Bellisle (Kim), Darren Bellisle and Jason Bellisle (Gwen); and many other relatives and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his brother Richard “Dick” Vander Missen and his wife Rosemary; Don’s brother-in-law Thomas Bellisle and niece, Lori (Daanen) (Jeffrey) Barber; and other various relatives.

A private family service will be held at Cotter Funeral Home. Entombment at Allouez Catholic Mausoleum to follow. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.

Little Chute - Mary Lou Peerenboom, age 92, passed away on Christmas Day, surrounded by her beloved family. She was born September 19, 1930, in Appleton, to the late Margaret (Kraft) and Emmett Brown.

Mary Lou graduated from St. John High School in 1948. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert J. Peerenboom, on November 29, 1952. They enjoyed 46 years of wedded bliss, until he preceded her in death (d. 11/17/98). While raising five children she attended UW-Oshkosh where she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees. During a 25-year teaching career in the Little Chute School District (1967-1993) she taught several thousand students in various grades.

Mom and Dad started many family traditions which have lasted nearly 50 years. Our favorites being family dinners every Sunday, and celebrating Christmas Eve, so we were able visit our in-laws on Christmas Day. They bought a cottage on a small lake in 1973 that still serves as our family's favorite gathering spot.

She was a fan of many sports and especially enjoyed going to Packer games. She also cheered for Notre Dame, her father's favorite team, as it would be for any good Irish man. Mom would get on numerous pools and track the results for her and her friends.

Mom and dad loved to travel. They really enjoyed the shores of the Great Lakes, the annual gatherings with Rob's family at one of their cottages, and autumn rides to view the fall colors. After their retirement, they enjoyed taking bus tours to countless state and national parks. A favorite trip was going to Superbowl XXXII in San Diego. Mom regularly attended grandkids' events and participated in many other activities she loved.

Mary Lou joined various leagues for volleyball, bowling and golf with her friends. She loved meeting up with friends for lunches and game days. Some of these groups included the wives from the Little Shooters (deer hunters) club, St. Joe's Food Pantry volunteers, LC teachers, St. John classmates, Power Company co-workers.

She is survived by her children: Robbie (Gary) Meyer, Nancy (Gino) Frassetto, Dan (Lynn) Peerenboom, Donna (Don) Phelan, and Bill (Jackie) Peerenboom; grandchildren: Megan Laws, Angie (Tom) Brockman, Kenny (Carrie) Meyer, Jana (Jeff) Thompson, Cody Peerenboom, Kelly Peerenboom (Ben Grams), Laura & Kevin Phelan, Jill (Marco) Tellez, Katy & Emily Peerenboom; great grandchildren: Lily, Ella & Ryan Brockman, Sam & Hannah Meyer, Andrew, Logan & Jo Jo Thompson, and Viviana Tellez; sisters-in-law: Rosemary Medd and Betty Peerenboom. She is further survived by many extended family members and long-time friends that she made over her many years.

In addition to her parents and husband, Robert, Mary Lou was preceded in death by her grandchildren: Lucas Peerenboom, Alena Frassetto, and Andrew Meyer; sister, Joanie Schultz; Godson, Scott Schultz; In-laws: John and Mary (Hermsen) Peerenboom (parents), Tom (Red) Schultz, Pete Medd, Joan & Clyde Koehn, Joe & Betty Peerenboom, and Jim “Quack” Peerenboom. She was also preceded in death by other extended family and friends.

Mom, you were such an inspiration to us. You were our role-model, showing us how to be loving, strong, compassionate, empathetic and generous. You welcomed each in-law into our family and that gift was appreciated by all. We really cannot say enough good things about you. We love you and will miss you so much!

Grandma, everyone says their Gramma is ‘the best’, but they clearly have never met ours. She always made an effort to make each one of us feel special and loved us all for our unique personalities. We are lucky to have decades of memories with her and the family her and Grampa Boomie started. We love you.

P.S. We all know who the favorite was (insert our own name)!

Great Gram, not many kids are lucky enough to have a great grandparent, and none were as blessed as the Boomie great grands. We had the best great gram around! We love you, Great Gram!

We'd like to give a big shout-out to her many friends, because you added so much joy to mom's life and she loved each of you.

Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, December 30, 2022, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, 411 Vandenbroek Street, Little Chute, with Fr. Ron Belitz officiating. Donald Frank Kroll, age 88, passed away December 19, 2022, peacefully surrounded by his family and their love. Don was born to Lawrence and Irene (Kranhold) Kroll in Appleton. He grew up in Kaukauna where he attended Holy Cross Catholic School with his brother and graduated in 1952 from Kaukauna High School. Following graduation, he began work at Thilmany Pulp & Paper Company until his enlistment in the Army in 1954. Both Don and his brother Jerry left for their posts within days of each other with Jerry being stationed in Japan and Don in Germany. Upon returning to Wisconsin, Don returned to his job at Thilmany, advancing to Office Manager a position he held until his retirement.

Don met the lady who was destined to become the love of his life, Joan Totten, when he hired her to work in the purchasing department. Joan knew right away that Don was “the one.” After meeting in January, and an engagement in July, they were married on November 15, 1958. They went on to have four children who were all raised in Kaukauna.

Wisconsin sports of all kinds were a passion for Don; he loved to watch the Packers, Brewers, Badgers and even occasionally the Bucks were on the viewing list. He was also a proud follower of Kaukauna sports. Don was also an avid golfer and achieved a “hole in one” at Fox Valley Golf Club in Kaukauna. He loved the game and shared his passion with his children and grandchildren. They all hear his voice in their heads when swinging the club and recall the joy he had in teaching them “the swing.” His tee shots always went straight down the middle, because of his deliberate and slow swing.

Don was especially proud of his radio operating days in the service, and to this day could tap out Morse code. He loved to tell his grandchildren the stories from that time. Speaking of his grandchildren, some of them only recently found out about his activity as St. Nick.

Don is survived by his beloved wife Joan, his four children Doug (Mary Sullivan) Kroll, Mary Jean (Matt Huml) Kroll, Laureen (Thomas) Loftus, and Kim Haen; grandchildren: Rebecca (Adam) Rosera, Kelsey (Matt Moore) Kroll, Ross (Kathryn) Kroll, Carly (Matt Goodman) Kroll, Kyle (Taylor) Loftus, Larissa Loftus, Jordan Haen, and Brandon (Alexandra Nett) Haen. Sister-in-law Mary Totten as well as nieces and nephews further survive him.

Don is preceded in passing by his parents Lawrence and Irene, his brother Jerry (Bette) Kroll, daughter-in-law Barbara Kroll, Joan’s parents Ray and Claire Totten, brothers-in-law Ray Totten Jr. and Gene Totten as well as other loved ones.

Don’s family would like to thank the staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital-3rd floor as well as the staff at St. Paul Elder Services for their compassionate and loving care.

A funeral liturgy for Don will be held Saturday January 7, 2023, at 12:00pm at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 309 Desnoyer Street, Kaukauna. Friends and family may gather at the church from 10:00am until the start of mass. Don will be privately laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery.

John “Jack” Norbert Van Lanen died peacefully at the Unity Hospice Residence in De Pere, WI on December 15, 2022, two weeks after his 76th birthday. Born on November 30th, 1946 to Mayme Vandeyacht Van Lanen and Norbert Van Lanen, Jack grew up in Little Chute, Wisconsin as the oldest of three siblings. He graduated from Little Chute St. John High School in 1964, and St. Norbert College with a degree in accounting in 1969. While at St. Norbert’s Jack participated in ROTC and following graduation he served in the US Army as a 2nd Lieutenant both stateside and in Germany using his accounting skills during the Vietnam war from 1969-1971. He was a member of American Legion Post # 0258 for 51 continuous years.

On October 12, 1974, Jack married Frances Neumeier at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church, Gresham, and they made their home in Appleton until they retired to their beautiful home on the bay in Door County in 2004. He was employed as an accountant with General Electric for most of his working years.

Jack was happy if he had a bowling ball in his hand, and he belonged to many teams both in Appleton and later in Door County. He was proud of his stint as the President of the Appleton bowling Association and of his 299 game. He travelled to national tournaments on many occasions. He was a loyal Green Bay Packer fan and enjoyed bragging rights for holding his Dad’s original tickets dating back to “the old City Stadium”, and for attending every home game for decades, including not only many iconic games including the Ice Bowl, but also staying just as loyal during the lean years. In 2011 he and Fran watched the Packers beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in Dallas to win Super Bowl 45, a highlight for them both. Jack offered expert sports analysis and was most often right. He and Fran traveled the world together but were always home for every family function, teaching the rest of us how to “be family”. As Jack developed more health problems, he was no longer able to participate as he previously did, but the rest of us will never forget.

How much do you sum up a life that has given so much so unselfishly?

Karla (Kuchelmeister) Wolfinger age 82 passed away at home on Christmas Day, where she was blessed to spend it with her family on earth and in heaven. Karla was born November 14, 1940 in Kaukauna Community Hospital to William (Rocky) and Jeanette (Spaulding) Kuchelmeister. She grew up with 5 siblings James Kuchelmeister (Joey), Lorelei Otte (Jim), Victoria Kuchelmeister, Todd Kuchelmeister (Juliette), Scott Kuchelmeister (Sue). She went to Holy Cross school and graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1959 where she was Class President, Captain Cheerleading Squad and her friends from school would call her “Kuch”.

She was united in marriage to Lawrence (Larry) Wolfinger on July 3, 1967. She would say her greatest accomplishments were her children Miles Wolfinger, Bradley Wolfinger, Kim Van Berkel, LeAnn Stever (Ron), Denise Diedrich (Dave) and Heidi Frederickson (Kurt). She adored her grandchildren Joshua Wolfinger, Stephanie Garvey (Matt), Sarah Van Berkel, Cynthia Voigt, Zacharia Frederickson, Jeremia Frederickson, Amanda Belongea and Travis Belongea and step-grandchildren Heather, Brianna and Nick Diedrich. She cherished her great grand-children Alyssa and Caleb Garvey, Kingston and Aaliyah Belongea, Lincoln and Parker Belongea.

Karla’s faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is what had gotten her through many trials and tribulations. Her prayer was that everyone would come to Christ and know Him like she did. The Sinner’s Prayer: ask for forgiveness, admit you are a sinner and accept in your heart- if you prayed this welcome to the family of Christ.

Karla touched many lives through her work and through her volunteerism. She worked as a teenager at A & W then off to Thilmany like her father. She then raised her babies and went back to work at White Clover (Arla) as a Line leader for 20 years.

On August 22nd, 1993 her husband of 25 years passed away from a heart attack. Because he left a void in their lives, the family started the Larry Wolfinger Charity Golf Outing. Through the golf outing, she and others have helped many local families lives in a financial medical crisis. She felt the need was greater than this one-day event, and being led by the grace of God, she and her daughter Heidi started the Community Benefit Tree (CBT). With the support of family, friends and the community many families’ lives were touched throughout Wisconsin for the last 18 years.

Karla’s faith and family was the cornerstone of who she was and how she was lead in her life’s journey. Her last two years were definitely a tribulation but were not in vain because with every tribulation there was a triumph.

In addition to her family left behind that will forever miss her and keep her legacy going are her in-laws, Mary Rolf, Dorothy Ryan, Clarence Jr. Wolfinger (Bonnie), Nancy Mattison , Grace Zwiers along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Welcoming her into her heavenly home were her two grandchildren, her mother Jeanette and father William, her husband Larry, her sisters Lei and Vicki, her brother Jim and her nephew Greg.

The funeral liturgy for Karla will be held at 11:00 AM on January 7, 2023, at St. Francis Church in Hollandtown, with Fr. Donald Everts officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. Following the cemetery service, everyone is invited to Karla’s Celebration of Life at Van Abel’s of Hollandtown where there will be music and food. In honor and memory of Karla the family requests you to wear a fun Christmas hat, one of Karla’s favorite traditions.

A special Thank You to her caregivers Brittany and friends Kit Therrien, Jin Willems and Janice Lamers.

In lieu of flowers per Karla’s request please consider a donation to Community Benefit Tree.

Leon “Lee” Edward Casey, age 97 of Appleton, WI joined his heavenly Father on December 24, 2022. He was born to Clarence and Irene (Hoier) Casey on August 11, 1925 in Ellington, WI. Lee graduated from Union Free High School, Shiocton, WI with the class of ’43 and went on to enlist in the Navy during World War II on the USS Wichita in the Pacific fleet. He was a founding member of St. Pius X Parish and a devoted church attendee for his whole life. Lee volunteered for the Veterans Affairs and the Disabled American Veterans transportation system, driving veterans to and from Madison, Milwaukee, and anywhere else they needed to go. Marquette St, Appleton, WI 54911 with a mass of Christian burial to follow at 11:30 AM. Lee will be laid to rest at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton at 1:00 PM following the service.

Allan M. Dix, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2023 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay surrounded by his family. He was 60 years old.

Al was born in Marshfield, Wisconsin to Richard and Carol (Derfus) Dix on August 4, 1962. When he was four years old, his family relocated to Kaukauna where he resided for the remainder of his life.

After attending Kaukauna High School, Al began his career in the concrete business where he would earn the respect and admiration of those in the construction industry through his expertise and disciplined work ethic.

While his career brought him a sense of pride and accomplishment, it paled in comparison to meeting the love of his life, Judy Marx. They married on December 19, 1986, recently celebrating 36 years together. Raising two sons brought them many years of fond memories.

After years in the concrete business working for others, Al used the knowledge and skills he had acquired to start his own business from the ground up. Al Dix Concrete, founded in January of 1995, quickly became renowned in the Fox Valley area as one of the best.

Al was a skilled outdoorsman and loved being in nature. A fierce competitor, some of his best times were spent pursuing trophy bucks in Buffalo County and snagging more than his limit of perch in Michigan. To his family and friends, he will be remembered as a strong provider and a masterful storyteller. Being a grandpa brought him many smiles in recent years.

He is survived by his wife Judy; sons: Dylan (Mandy) Dix and Michael (Tonya) Dix and their children Austin, Ainsley, Caleb and Jaxen Dix. He is also survived by his dad, Richard Dix; brothers: Jim (special friend Valerie) Dix, Russ (Sarah) Dix, John (Ted) Dix; brothers and sisters-in-law: Pat Marx, Jack (Carol) Marx, Cathy Marx, Mary Campbell, Dale (Cindy) Marx, Jerry (Connie) Marx and Terry (Dave) Muntner; former brother-in-law, Scott Campbell; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, each who held a special place in his heart.

Preceding Al in death were his mom, Carol: father and mother-in-law, Ed and Alice Marx; special uncle, Larry Dix; beloved niece and godchild Kelly (Dix) Fassbender; brother-in-law, Ed (Butch) Marx, and nephews-in-law: Phillip Marx and Andrew Campbell.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 309 Desnoyer Street, Kaukauna. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established in Al’s honor to benefit his love of the outdoors. Appleton - 77, passed away on February 7, 2021 after a short battle with Metastatic Urothelial Cancer. Pat was born on April 22, 1943 to Lewis and Helen McCormick of Kaukauna, WI. After graduating from Kaukauna High School in 1961, he went on to serve in the United States Air Force for four years. Upon returning home, Pat was employed as a Security Officer at Theda Clark Hospital in Neenah where he met his former wife of 28 years, Donna McCormick (Bartelt). Together they had 2 children: Cara and Michael. Pat held a variety of jobs over the years, but ultimately retired in 2015 as a TSA Agent through Homeland Security at the Appleton International Airport.

Pat loved spending time outdoors, especially at his parent's home on Kelly Lake. He enjoyed sharing stories, playing card games like poker with his sisters (taking all their money of course), playing Shake of the Day, spending time with his grand dogs, and drinking his Blackberry Brandy.

Pat's most recognizable title was Scoutmaster Pat. Pat joined Boy Scouts as a young boy and went on to earn the coveted Eagle Scout Award in 1958. Scouting ran through his blood and he helped establish Boy Scout Troop 67 of VFW Post 2778, Appleton, WI. The scout troop was an extension of his family. Pat's second home was Gardner Dam Boy Scout Camp and eventually Troop 67 created Camp Wolf on the Breyer family land. From Court of Honor ceremonies, annual chili suppers at the VFW, placing flags on Veteran's graves for Memorial Day, and selling wreaths; there was always something going on in the troop. Scouts and families also knew that Pat was only a phone call away. His phone literally rang all day long. As a Scoutmaster of 50+ years, Pat aided thousands of boys, their families and his community. Pat assisted 116 scouts, including his son Michael, in earning their Eagle Scout Award: a remarkable achievement in the scouting community.

In the last 13 years, Pat became a grandfather to Olivia, Patrick and Torin which could arguably be his greatest joy. Pat enjoyed watching Olivia perform at cheer, dance and archery competitions as well as listening to her play her viola. With his grandsons, Patrick and Torin, he loved to go swimming and fishing. They also gardened, built various things and horsed around.

Pat is survived by his daughter, Cara Wege (Adam); his son, Michael (Nicole); his former wife, Donna McCormick; 3 grandchildren, Olivia Wege, Patrick and Torin McCormick; one brother, Jack (Nancy) McCormick; five sisters: Kay (Willie) Otto, Eileen Gerrits (Dick Dollevoet), Colleen (Ron) Verkuilen, Maureen (Ken) Schwaller, Noreen (Cory) Hughes; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit the family from 1-3 PM and please wear a mask if attending. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Pat's name for Gardner Dam Boy Scout Camp and Camp Wolf.

Marvin J. Ebben was reunited with his beloved wife, Mattie, when he was welcomed into heaven on February 8th, 2023. Marv was born in Little Chute to Chris and Sophie (Janssen) Ebben on March 14th, 1928.

After high school, Marv proudly served his country in the United States Navy where he was stationed in Guam. He married Mattie Van Groll on October 28th, 1952 and together lovingly raised 4 children. He retired from the Kimberly mill in 1990 after 36 years as first fireman in the boiler room. Marv and Mattie built their dream home in Darboy. He loved watching the wildlife and especially feeding his orioles and cardinals. He took great pride in his home and was often teased about his “manicured” lawn.

He enjoyed traveling, bowling, and golfing (even getting a hole in one) in his retirement. His greatest joy, however, was in spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He could often be found lying on the floor playing with the little ones. Family was his top priority and was always the first one there when someone needed a hand. If dad didn’t know how to fix something, no one did.

Marv was a proud, humble, and fiercely independent man. Recent years were difficult when, due to declining health, he had to depend on others. He faced those struggles with courage, deep faith and kindness to all.

Marv will be dearly missed by his four children; Dave (Lynn) Ebben, Debbie (Randy) Jack, Jean (Pat) Gaffney, and Jim (Ammie) Ebben, 13 grandchildren; Matthew (Irene) Ebben, Brad (Andrea) Ebben, Danielle (Nick) Hallett, Derek (Kristy) Jack, Chris (Katie) Jack, Rob (Kristin) Jack, Ryan (Alisa) Gaffney, Jason (Michelle) Gaffney, Kelyn (Andy) Navarrete, Beau (Beth) Ebben, Bailey (Patrick) Lagman, Brett Ebben, and Bryce (special friend, Annika) Ebben, 17 great grandchildren; Easton, Josh, Nolan, Austin, Emily, Eli, Colin, Elena, Kaylee, Bennett, Keaton, Averie, Logan, Tressa, Mattie, Lylah, and Harlow. Marilyn Catherine (Beining) Sausen, born September 27, 1936 - passed away peacefully surrounded by family at her home on Saturday, March 11, 2023.

Marilyn was born the second of six children to Aloysius and Eleanor (Cornelissen), Beining on their family farm just east of De Pere, WI. There, she learned the value of hard work and the importance of family, two lessons she would carry with her throughout her life.

Marilyn fell in love and married John (Jack) Sausen on November 12, 1960, and honeymooned in Florida. Jack and Marilyn started their family immediately, welcoming their firstborn son 9.5 months later.

Marilyn became a stay-at-home mother, taking that strong work ethic and putting it into homemaking and ensuring their five children never wanted for anything. She and Jack grew a sizable vegetable garden. Marilyn made baby food, washed cloth diapers, canned vegetables, darned socks, and patched jeans to provide for their growing family.

Every Friday afternoon all summer long, Marilyn would load the station wagon for weekend trips to their cottage on Lee Lake, many times inviting extra kids or family along.

Marilyn worked for Diana Manufacturing after high school. She rejoined the workforce when her kids were old enough, first at Green Bay Radiological Associates and then at Brimmer and Teteak (now The Belson Company). She excelled in each position, and she dearly loved her work family.

Her husband, Jack, passed away in 1995 at the age of 62, and while her heart was broken, she picked herself up and rebuilt her life, becoming an inspiration for so many friends and family members. She continued to work for a few more years after his passing. Upon retirement, everyone wondered how she ever had time to work. She was always on the go; lunches and dinners with friends new and old, church, and her true passion - volunteerism.

Marilyn loved to give back with her time and her talent. She and her knitting club knitted hats for premature babies and squares that would be sewn together to form blankets for homeless veterans. She also knitted washcloths and Christmas ornaments that she gifted to friends and family. She worked the elections, cooked, and volunteered at funeral lunches for St. Mary’s church, and she helped to sort the donations for De Pere Christian Outreach.

Somehow, she also found time to travel in retirement. She went to Europe several times, Jerusalem, and trips out east to see the beautiful fall colors. As well she’d visit Florida for a few months each winter. Her favorite travel partner in retirement was her special friend, John (Jack) Derks. They shared a love for travel, friendship, volunteerism, theater, and good food. Because she loved playing cards, she always said, “I was dealt a pair of Jacks in this life, and that isn’t too bad!”

Marilyn was the life of the party, and her energy lit up every room – always quick-witted with a great sense of humor. Family and friends meant everything to Marilyn. She loved playing sheepshead, helping family, and shopping the deals at De Pere Christian Outreach when someone needed something unique.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, Aloysius and Eleanor, her husband, Jack Sausen, her special friend, Jack Derks, brother-in-law Thomas Klauke, Jack’s brother Bill and his wife Leona Sausen, and sister-in-law Mary Ann Sausen.

She is survived by her five children, James (Lori), Thomas (Lorie), Gregg (Tina Cody), Amy (Kurt Nelson), and Michelle. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Craig (Brooke) Linzmeier, Eric (Drew) Sausen, Maria (Jeff) Hinnendael, and Brook (Brett) Vandenlangenberg. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren Milo and Cash Linzmeier, Chloe, and Winnie Vandenlangenberg. She is further survived by “the sibs” Robert (Ruth) Beining, Lawrence (Patricia) Beining, Joan Klauke, Barbara (John) Truttman, and Karen (Mark) Hornick.

Family and friends may visit at St. Mary Catholic Church, 4805 Sportsman Dr., Ledgeview, on Friday, March 31, from 9:00am to 10:45am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am with Rev. Mike Ingold officiating. Interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, De Pere. Cotter Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family with arrangements.
