Mary Lou Greve June 11, 1934 - August 16, 2023
Mary Lou Greve June 11, 1934 - August 16, 2023
Obituary
Mary Lou Greve, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 surrounded by her family at Theda Regional Medical Center (AMC) in Appleton a few days after a heart attack.

Throughout her life, she had been blessed to be a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Her proud parents, the late Othmar “Butch” and Caroline (Boll) Hartmann welcomed their third child, Mary Lou into their family on June 11, 1934 at a farmhouse just outside of New Holstein. By the time she reached school age, the family had moved to Brillion, and she graduated in 1952 from Brillion High School where she enjoyed cheerleading and many social activities. One of her passions after high school was bowling, and she often had a high score mentioned in the newspaper.

Her big brother David set her up on a blind date with Howard “Howie” Greve. They fell in love and were married on June 24, 1967. The couple moved to Brillion where they raised their children. She worked many years at Calumet County Bank. In the Summers, they would load up the five children, fishing rods and all, and head to their cottage up north in Three Lakes. Howie taught her to put a worm on a hook and not chase it on the pier until she caught it. After the nest was empty, they moved to Appleton but would Winter in California or Arizona. Before her husband Howard passed away on May 19, 2018, they celebrated 50 years of marriage. Mary Lou was an amazing cook and baker, known for her Crazy Cake and poppyseed torte. Holidays were always so much fun, for she made sure everything was perfectly decorated, with a huge food spread, and lots of love. From sewing clothes, canning, and playing games, she made sure her family didn’t want for anything. Mary Lou enjoyed playing bingo and slots at the casino, where she would normally win while the rest of us lost. She was remarkably lucky and enjoyed Sunday games of 31 and 500 rummy. Throughout the years, she was a faithful Days of Our Lives viewer, and later on in life, she enjoyed reading and puzzles.

She left behind five children: Joy Farnsworth of Hilbert, Jay of Menasha, James “Skip” (Jill) of Brillion, Julie (Jim) Pickart of Oshkosh, and Jodie of Appleton; ten grandchildren: Laura (fiance’ Justin) Kempen, Abigail (Cody) Ledvina, Sydney, Sophie (Elijah) Walti, Cody, Collin, Nicole (Sean) Suess, and Mindy, Dane, and Sierra Pickart; twelve great-grandchildren; one sister: Donna Mae Klarner of Kimberly; one brother: Dennis Hartmann of Hemet, California; sister-in-law: Marge Hartmann; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Loved ones who have gone before her include her parents, her husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law: Alvin and Leona (Radloff) Greve, brother: David and his first wife, sister-in-law: Barbara Hartmann; sister and brothers-in-law: Betsy (Glenn) Brandt and Cyril Klarner; and a niece: Brenda Brandt.

Funeral Mass will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 24 2023 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Brillion. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Tom Pomeroy. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Brillion.

Friends may call at the church on Thursday afternoon from 3:00 p.m. until the time of Mass.

Online condolences may be made www.pielhopwieting.com

The family would like to thank the staff of Theda Care (AMC) ICU for taking care of our Mother. A special thanks to Christine who was supportive, professional, and so very kind to us all.

Mary Louise 'Lou' (Hanegraaf) Bressers
November 21, 1930 ~ September 21, 2022 (age 91)
Mary Louise "Lou" (Hanegraaf) Bressers November 21, 1930 ~ September 21, 2022 (age 91)
Lou Bressers, age 91, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2022. She was born in Little Chute on November 21, 1930 to the late Cornelius (Casey) and Elizabeth (Betz) (Verstynen) Hanegraaf. On July 8, 1953, she married her high school sweetheart, Harold Bressers, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Little Chute.

Lou was an avid golfer and bowler – hobbies that she continued well into her 80’s. She also enjoyed playing cards with her group of lifelong Little Chute friends and spending time with her family at their cottage near Summit Lake. Lou was a very talented seamstress and, after many years of sewing wardrobes for her daughters, enjoyed making Halloween costumes for her grandchildren before retiring the old Kenmore sewing machine.

Lou had strong faith and a very big heart and lived, unwaveringly, by the kindness rule of treating everyone as she would want to be treated. From very young ages, she reminded her kids to “be nice” every time they walked out the door and, throughout her life, she was very giving to many charitable organizations. At Christmastime, she always remembered anyone who had helped her or touched her life in some way, including her doctors, nurses, hairdresser, handy people, cleaning lady, favorite bartender, neighbors and their young kids.

Mary Lou is survived by her four children: Dan (Nancy) of Town of Buchanan, Tim (Diane) of Portage, Beth (Jim) Wanek of Larsen, and Barb (Lindsay) Franklin of Bluffton, SC. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren: Nick (Anna) Bressers, Emma (Alexander) Bounmixay, Matt Vesely, Megan Vesely (fiancé Ishaka), Devin (Kelley) Bressers, Savannah Franklin, and Lindsay Franklin, Jr.; two greatgrandchildren, Charlotte Bounmixay and Declan Bressers, and a third due in October 2022. She is also survived by sister in law: Mary Hanegraaf.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry, brothers and sisters: Betty Flanagan, Greg (Donna) Hanegraaf, Celine (Don) Rippl, Joe Hanegraaf, Jack (Gail) Hanegraaf; brothers and sisters in-laws: Ted (Verna) Bressers, Joe (Mary) Bressers, Rose (Milton) Teske, Judy Bressers, and Vincent (Lois) Bressers.

The funeral mass for Mary Lou will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, 411 Vandenbroek St., Little Chute. A time of visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will continue until the time of mass.

The Bressers’ family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Jessica Peterson, Julie the anti-COAG nurse, Sandy the at-home nurse and all of the doctors, nurses and staff on the 3rd floor of St. Elizabeth Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Johns Food Pantry, Little Chute.

Max G. Pribbenow Mar 7, 2016 ~ Jan 2, 2024 (age 7)
Max G. Pribbenow Mar 7, 2016 ~ Jan 2, 2024 (age 7)
Max Gerard Pribbenow ran into his Father’s arms, dying peacefully on January 2, 2024 with his devoted parents at his side.

Over the past six and a half years, Max endured the effects of Alper’s Syndrome, a genetic autosomal recessive disorder. Though his condition provided new challenges as time progressed, Max faced each day with humility and obedience, teaching all who were blessed to know him how to be brave. Max loved and was loved deeply.

Max’s favorite place to be was at home with his family. He was the calm within the storm of a houseful of active boys. He liked to listen to music with his brothers and read books with mom and dad. The sound of their voices often lit up Max’s face. He showed his joy with smiles, eyebrow raises, and an occasional belly laugh. He laughed with glee when he met his younger brothers for the first time and smiled with delight during many songs at church.

Max was a gift, pure and simple. Nobody had a more courageous spirit than him. Max fought heroically these last six years, and when it was time to surrender, he peacefully took Jesus by the hand and went home to eternity. We will never know all that he endured. What we do know and were blessed to be witnesses of is the grace and fortitude with which he lived his life. Our loss is immeasurable, but we rejoice in the assurance we have that Max is whole and new in Heaven.

Max will be dearly missed by his greatest champions, his dad and mom, Luke and Bailey (Geraets) Pribbenow, twin brother Leo, and younger brothers Oscar and Clement; grandparents, Mark and Mary (Valentyn) Pribbenow, and Roger and Tracy (Kirwin) Geraets; aunts and uncles: Leah, Nick, Fr. Ben, Casey, Kayla, Sam, Ali, Tate, Sophie, Jack, Hannah, Charlie, and Quinn; cousins: Miriam, Lyla, Ellen, Francis, Arthur, Stevie, Winnie, and Olivia; great grandfather Jerome Pribbenow; and numerous great aunts, uncles, second cousins and extended family members.

Max was preceded in death by his paternal great grandparents, Robert and Althea Valentyn and Elsie Pribbenow, and maternal great grandparents, Charles and Maryette Geraets and Darrell and Marilyn Kirwin.

The funeral liturgy for Max will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at Holy Spirit Parish, 600 E. Kimberly Avenue, Kimberly, with Max’s uncle and godfather, Fr. Ben Pribbenow, officiating. Friends may call at the church on Monday, January 8, 2024 after 4:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the liturgy. Visiting hours Monday evening will conclude with a parish prayer service at 7:00 p.m. The prayer service and Mass will be live streamed at the Holy Spirit Parish website: https://holyspirit-parish.org/mass-holy-spirit-parish

The Pribbenow family is grateful to Dr. Alice Boshoven at Mosaic Family Health for her compassion and steadfast care for Max through the years. They extend their sincerest and deepest gratitude to the countless medical providers, nurses, therapists and social workers who also cared for Max.

August 12, 1942 ~ April 11, 2023 (age 80)
Merlin Hietpas August 12, 1942 ~ April 11, 2023 (age 80)
Merlin S. Hietpas took his place in the tenor section of the Angel Choir early in the morning of April 11th. Our Dad was a man of deep faith. He always said, “I sing for the Lord.” Cantering, The Fox Valleyaires Barbershoppers, and The Good News Choir are all examples of this. Our Dad was always a bit of a Ham. He brought his antics to the stage by acting in Papermaker Players productions. If we were to describe our dad in one word, it would be “dedication.” From his Mother, to His Brothers and Sisters, to his wife, children and grandchildren, to his friends, he was always there in their time of need. Throughout his battle with dementia, he never lost that dedication to Jesus or to our mom.

Merlin is survived by his wife, Rose; his children: Douglas (Carrie) Hietpas, Wayne (Jeanne) Hietpas, Matthew (Amy) Hietpas, Jeffrey (Crystal) Hietpas, Jennifer (Chris) Brooks and Rebecca (James) Hendricks; grandchildren: Garret, Trevor (Liz), Caleb (Haley), Rachel, Jack, Anna, Charlie, Ava, Hope, Angie, Savannah and Aubrey; sister; Sr. Germaine Conrad Hietpas O.P.; brothers and sisters-in-law: Leo Nackers, Irene Hietpas, Mary Weyenberg, Linda Weyenberg, Jane Menting, Betty Mischler, Julie Verstegen, Kathy (Dick) Peterson; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Merlin was preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius and Anna Hietpas; siblings: Elaine (Pete) Van Dera, Paul (Margaret) Hietpas, Roger (Pat) Hietpas, Omar (Shirley) Hietpas, Lois (Clayton) Liebergan, Alice Nackers, Eugene (Sue) Hietpas, Ken Hietpas and Vernon Hietpas; brothers and sisters-in-law: Mona (Ralph) Stark, Bob Weyenberg, Lee Weyenberg, Alice (Marvin) Coenen, Dick Menting, Ben Mischler, Dennis Verstegen and Diane Rohan.

Michael R. Fermanich
April 10, 1947 - July 2, 2023
Michael R. Fermanich April 10, 1947 - July 2, 2023
Michael Richard Fermanich, age 76, passed away on the morning of July 2nd, 2023 with loved ones at his side. Mike was born to Urban and Harriet Fermanich on April 10th, 1947 in New London, Wisconsin. He spent his early life on the family farm and business, Fermanich Implements, with his five siblings. He carried his appreciation for the simplicity of those days (and his love of tractors) far beyond.

On April 17th, 1989, Mike married Jenny Falk after reconnecting with her at Charlie’s Bar. According to the lore, the two had crossed paths decades earlier when Mike had rescued Jenny from car troubles after a night out. This same kind of practical, thoughtful care for her continued on until his passing, particularly in the last few years as dementia has taken a toll on Jenny.

Though reserved on the surface, Mike’s goofy demeanor behind the scenes was a delight to those lucky enough to witness it. He was a hard worker who enjoyed building with his hands, creating meticulously-crafted furniture that has adorned their home for years. He never skipped dessert or passed up a brat fry, and relished long, meandering country drives. All of these qualities (and so many more) equipped him for the role he was perhaps best at: being a grandpa.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents; Urban and Harriet Fermanich, and siblings; Mary Chipman and Marlene Worner.

Mike is survived by his siblings; Carol Eickhoff, James (Ila) Fermanich, and David (Shirley) Fermanich, his wife Jenny, children; Stephanie (Thomas) Caimotto, Daniela Callan, Kristin (Marshall) Shields, Jeff Fletcher, and Tracy (Brian) Peebles, and grandchildren; Alyssa Lentz, Bryce Peebles, Dominick and Sarah Caimotto, and Jacob, Colton, and Olivia Shields. Our family also wishes to recognize the love and support of Jim and Candy Falk, Mike’s brother- and sister-in-law.

A Funeral Service for Michael will be held at 6:00 p.m. at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London on Thursday, July 6th, 2023. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 6:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Parkinson’s Foundation in Mike’s honor.

Appleton
Myrtie J. Krueger July 12, 1933 — November 18, 2022 Appleton
Myrtie Jane Krueger, age 89, of Appleton was born into eternal life November 18, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Myrtie was born in a farmhouse in Maple Creek, near New London on July 12th 1933. As the youngest of James and Myrtle (Law) Ellefson, she enjoyed being the baby of the family. She met her lifelong sweetheart Russell Krueger at the Hortonville homecoming dance at the age of 15. The two were married on January 3, 1951. Unbelievably, the very next day, he was called to active duty with United States Army – but Myrtie’s love and support never wavered. She spent a few years after high school working at Appleton Camera Supply where she developed photos, however, her longest and most rewarding job was being a mother and homemaker. As a mother to 5 children she spent her days caring for her family. In her spare time she also worked as a seamstress. From 1966 until 1979 Myrtie was heavily involved in the Americanos and the Drum and Bugle Corps in a variety of ways. After her children had grown she volunteered at Bargain Garden in the jewelry department and made her famous peanut brittle. She also spent many years volunteering for the Aid Association for Lutherans alongside Russell, organizing dinners and raffles.

Myrtie is survived by four children: Gary (Wendy) Krueger of North Port, Florida; Jim (Annie) Krueger of Appleton; Bruce (Beth) Krueger of Darboy; and Cheryl (Dave) Chase of Greenville. There are eighteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Russell in 2016, daughter Kay in 1996, daughter-in-law Dawn in 1994, grandson Brandon in 1991, as well as seven brothers and sisters.

From Myrtie's own notes: "My life was full of music beginning at age 3. In first grade I started singing solo and later I was in church choirs, school choirs, weddings and funerals, then onto AAL (now Thrivent) choir, Chaminade, and several chorales.

I was a member of St Matthew Evangelical Lutheran church, the Dorcus Society and Ladies Aid, holding offices in both. I enjoyed being useful wherever and whenever I was needed. My earthly wealth was in family and friends."

The Christian Funeral Service for Myrtie will be held 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at Wichmann Funeral Home, located at 537 N. Superior Street in Appleton, Rev. Jon Kuske officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Wichmann Funeral Home, and again on Wednesday morning from 9:00 AM until the hour of the service. Myrtie will be placed at rest with her husband Russell at Highland Memorial Park.

Nancy Schlies August 27, 1966 - September 11, 2023
Nancy Schlies August 27, 1966 - September 11, 2023
Nancy Schlies, born August 27, 1966, peacefully passed away surrounded by her children and husband. The daughter of Robert and Janet Charles attended Green Bay East High School, graduating in 1985. While in high school, she was active in the FFA chapter, which led to her finding the love of her life, Lester Schlies, while attending the 1983 Washington Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. On September 12, 1987, Lester and Nancy were married at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay, WI. She worked part-time at Royal Cleaners while helping Lester on the family farm. In 1997, she started part-time with the U.S. Postal Service and became full-time in 2000. Nancy adored all of her customers, and she wanted to make sure they all felt special, often adding some baked treats or a note of gratitude in their mailbox. She would always go the extra mile to better serve her customers, just as a faithful servant would do. During her time at the USPS, she was actively involved with the Wisconsin Rural Letter Carriers Association. Eventually, Nancy retired as ALS and frontotemporal dementia progressed.

Nancy was a strong believer in supporting agriculture’s youth. She was a Lifetime Member of the Denmark FFA Alumni, helping with many local fundraisers and state and national FFA Alumni Conventions, and was the loadout chairperson for the Northeast Youth Livestock Show since 2004 when her and Lester began running the show.

If there was one place Nancy enjoyed being the most, it was at her home where she was able to garden, plant flowers, can, bake and sew (especially pillow quilts); all of which she was well known for! Nancy could be found at most family gatherings making homemade rolls and in the kitchen preparing the rest of the food. Each year, her children could choose the theme of a birthday cake which she would then bake and decorate for them. Sunday mornings though, were reserved for trips to Uncle Mike’s. Nancy would welcome everyone into her home with kind words and hugs.

Nancy was a member of St. Therese Parish and had an abiding faith which she shared with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 36 years, Lester; two daughters and sons-in law, two sons and daughter-in law: Jennifer (Kenneth Jr.) Strack of Random Lake, Tyler (Lexi) Schlies of Denmark, Tammy (Damon) Vandenack of Denmark, Joe Schlies of Denmark; mother: Jan Charles of Green Bay; three brothers and sisters-in law: Mark Charles, Todd (Tina) Charles, Janice Pedler, David (Robyn) Charles, and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her father, Robert Charles; brother, Scott Charles, and many other uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Family and friends may visit at Cotter Funeral Home-Denmark (536 County Road R), on Thursday, September 14, from 3-7pm. A parish prayer service will conclude the evening. Visitation will continue on Friday at St. Therese Parish-St. Lawrence Site, Stangelville (N2085 County Road AB, Denmark) from 9:00 am until 10:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am with Fr. Dennis Drury officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Our family wishes to thank all the family, friends, in-home caretakers, and Unity Hospice who cared for Nancy during this time. We also appreciate the many prayers for Nancy and our family.
