Dawn Forbeck Buxton
March 31, 1967 — September 23, 2022
Dawn Forbeck Buxton March 31, 1967 — September 23, 2022
A light has gone out of our lives. Dawn Renee Buxton was a unique, vibrant, shining light in the lives of many. She won the race and went home to be with her Savior on Friday, September 23, 2022. She had been diagnosed with a large butterfly glioblastoma brain tumor on Monday, September 19. We are very thankful that though her exit was sudden and unexpected, there wasn’t suffering or pain or a long time of waiting for God’s will to be done.

Dawn was born to her parents Dennis and Ellyn (Springstroh) Forbeck, who loved her very much, and though sad and shocked at her passing, await the day of the great reunion. She was born March 31, 1967. She lived in the Appleton area much of her early life, attended several grade schools and graduated from Fox Valley Lutheran High School in Appleton in 1985. She worked at several jobs before starting her career at Thrivent in 2001. She advanced through many positions and was working remotely at home at the time of her passing.

Dawn married Paul Buxton on October 8, 1988, and the two shared almost 34 years together. They lived in rural Marion, WI and thoroughly enjoyed teaming up to live off the land with a large garden. They hunted together, canned many kinds of fruits and vegetables, and sought many ways to make their lives as productive and independent as possible. Dawn truly loved the beauty of nature and found joy and happiness finding new ways to be self-sufficient.

Dawn and Paul loved spending time with their granddaughter Ryleigh. They also have two special Rhodesian ridgeback dogs, Izzy and Dozer who will miss Dawn terribly. Dawn always loved going to their cabin in the woods near Post Lake.

Dawn is survived by Paul, her parents, her daughter Renee (Nathan) Jaeger, and granddaughter Ryleigh, her in-laws, Tom and Sue Buxton, sister-in-law Leigh Buxton, and her grandfather, Earl (Bud) Springstroh. Dawn was especially fond of a recent five generation picture with her daughter and granddaughter, her mother and grandfather. Dawn is further survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and coworkers.

The family would like to sincerely thank everyone who has expressed love and support for them at this time, and for the outstanding, professional care that Dawn received at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton during her final days.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, her maternal grandmother, aunts, uncles, and cousins. A celebration of life with take place in Dawn’s honor at the River Rail Banquet Hall in Shiocton, WI on October 8, 2022, from 1 PM to 5 PM with a special “Tribute to Dawn” beginning at 2:30 pm. A memorial fund is being established.

Dawn Marie Vang
January 20, 1978 — November 4, 2022
Appleton
Dawn Marie Vang January 20, 1978 — November 4, 2022 Appleton
If you were told today that you had cancer, how would that change your life? Would you appreciate all the moments you have and do things you always wanted to do? Would you hug your loved ones tighter and say the things you knew you needed to say? Would you wake up each day thankful just to be alive?

Dawn Marie Vang (age 44) was greeted with Jesus's open arms on November 4, 2022 after a 2 ½ year battle with stage IV Melanoma. She spent her final weeks comforting everyone who loved her and assuring them she was at peace. She didn’t wait for a cancer diagnosis to savor the gift of life, and neither should you.

Born on January 20, 1978 to Robert Stuyvenberg and Cheryl Stuyvenberg, Dawn graduated from Appleton East High School in 1997. In 2002 she met her soul mate, Lee Vang and married him on August 8, 2003. Dawn and Lee were meant to be together. They had four beautiful children, Ian, Ella, Isaac and Owen who truly were her greatest joys in life. Dawn loved her life, and she LOVED being a mom. She fought long and hard to get every day she could with Lee and her kids.

Dawn served in customer service at Fox River Fiber. She was so good at her job and loved working until her illness no longer made it possible. She treasured holiday traditions and always made sure they were extra memorable for the kids. She looked forward to decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas, and often did so way earlier than necessary. Dawn adamantly instructed Ian recently: “The tree will go up this year, and the earlier the better!”

Although not a savvy traveler by any means, she said she loved it nonetheless. Dawn cherished memories of a post high school graduation trip to Paris with her best friend Sarah where she spent two weeks eating Snickers bars and hot dogs. The only thing she gobbled down faster than that were her favorite Potbelly subs. Their final trip as a family was to Riviera Maya in the spring of 2021. Dawn was so happy to make memories with the kids that would give them something to smile about long after she was gone. Rounding out some of her favorite traveling escapades was dancing on the beach in Florida with crazy friends who were masterful at making her unwind and let loose.

Faith and family were the cornerstones of everything Dawn did, but she also looked forward to fun times with friends. She loved cheering at the kids’ sporting events, and she so appreciated the friendships she made along the way. Dawn had a unique way of making each friend feel like the favorite. She loved sitting on couches in driveways under a blanket around a makeshift fire pit, listening to music, talking, laughing and most of all making memories that could be talked about at the next gathering.

For some people, cancer is something they either succumb to or just try to survive. For Dawn, it led to her true calling of sharing her faith and inspiring so many others to search for God.

While cancer stole her body, it did not steal her spirit. In true Dawn fashion, almost up to the end, she would open her beautiful blue eyes, light up the entire block with her larger-than-life smile and include a myriad of swear words in her musings. The courage, positivity and unwavering faith she demonstrated even in the darkest hours has everyone who knows her striving to be more like Dawn.

In addition to her husband and children, left behind to miss her dearly are her parents, Robert Stuyvenberg and Cheryl Stuyvenberg; mother-in-law Ta Vang; siblings Robert Stuyvenberg, JoAnn Stuyvenberg (Ben Trauger) and Adam Stuyvenberg; siblings-in-law Pla (Shia) Yang, Lue (Krystal) Vang, Jimmy (Panyia) Vang, Bee (Rachel) Vang, Tou Yer (Jennifer) Vang and Pangnia (Bee) Xiong along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who all held a piece of her enormous heart.

Eager to nestle into her lap in heaven was infant son Elliot Vang. Also there to welcome her were her father-in-law Blayao Vang as well as grandparents Shirley and Jack Timm and Joan and James Stuyvenberg.

The celebration of Dawn's life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N Superior St. Appleton with Rev. Chou Xiong, from Living Stone Alliance Church presiding. Dawn had recently been baptized there, and she found a quiet comfort in the way the community embraced her as she navigated the end of her long journey. Visitation will take place from 9:00 am until the time of service. Reception to follow immediately at the funeral home.

Dawn’s Hail Mary clinical trial in New York City was costly and depleted the family savings, but it also brought her contentment knowing that she had done everything she could to buy more time with her family. Instead of flowers, donations to the family would be appreciated.

What would Dawn’s parting message be? She would tell all of us to enjoy each day, complain less, look for the positives in every situation and say the things that need to be said. Most of all, she would say to make memories because those last forever.

Denis Deno July 10, 1941 — January 20, 2024 Menasha

Denis Deno, age 81, passed away peacefully on the family farm surrounded by his loving children on January 20, 2024. Denis was born on July 10, 1942, son of the late Lester and Elenora (Harder) Deno. He continued the legacy of hard work set by his grandfather and father as he dedicated himself to the family dairy farm.

Denis enjoyed raising pigeons, often pointing them out on the road or in neighboring silos, always concerned whether they had been fed or not. Through most of his farming years, draft horses were used for a majority of the field work. Denis continued to admire working horses even as farming machinery changed. Horse pulls and Amish auctions were part of his weekend activities.

Denis also enjoyed the outdoors. He could be found hunting squirrel and deer on his land in Michigan. Denis enjoyed gathering hickory nuts that he would later crack during the winter months while seated in front of a blaring television. The way to his heart was through hickory nut cake.

He was a lifelong member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church. It was in the church basement where he learned the sport of dartball. Denis, also known as “2 dart Denis” was repeatedly named as MVP. Dartball was a fun activity shared with his family and friends.

Denis was a man of few words who lived by his faith in his Savior. He honored the Lord through his hard work, caring for all of Gods creations, and fiercely loving and cherishing his family.

Dennis Anthony Meulemans August 8, 1947 — January 5, 2023 Wausau
Dennis Anthony Meulemans August 8, 1947 — January 5, 2023 Wausau
Dennis (Denny) Meulemans, age 75, went home to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior, on January 5th, 2023. Denny was born on August 8th, 1947, to the late Norbert and Cecelia (Verhagen) Meulemans, in Wrightstown, Wisconsin. He married Christy Meulemans on December 23rd, 1975. Together they had many wonderful adventures all over the world. Their biggest adventure of course was raising their 6 rambunctious children on their hobby farm in Cato.

Denny grew up on a dairy farm in Wrightstown and always kept his love for farming and farmers. He graduated high school in De Pere at Abbot Pennings in 1965. He went on to the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he studied Agriculture. At graduation time he was two credits short due to often skipping his “Marriage and the Family'' class which became a running joke in the Meulemans family because he of course went on to be happily married for 47 years and a proud, very involved father of six. He later worked on his Agricultural Master’s Degree at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. In his career he taught Agriculture at East DePere High School, D.C. Everest High School, and Valders High School. He went on to work as a feed and seed salesman and as a crop inspector for the state of Wisconsin.

In the 70’s he spent time in the Peace Corps and always kept a special place in his heart for the people, country, and language of Kenya - even giving his daughter Meghan a Swahili middle name- Malaika or “Angel”. It was always his dream to return to Africa and in 2007, he was able to go back with some of the family to spend the summer in Uganda working with the nonprofit African Children’s Mission.

He was a kind, giving, and joyous person and made friends wherever he went. He loved God, his family, travel, fishing, photography, coaching his sons in baseball, and telling (and laughing at his own) jokes. He had an affinity for duct tape, even using it to make a makeshift Santa beard out of cotton balls to use on a visit to a local nursing home. His mischievous grin and fun personality will be remembered and cherished by all that knew him.

Denny will be forever in the hearts of his loving family: wife, Christy Meulemans; son, Abe (Becky) Meulemans and their children, Clay, Gavin, Maddox, and Lilly; daughter, Meghan (Ken) Skrepenski and their children, Grace and Amelia; daughter, Joy (Mick) Kleinhans and their children Max and Gus; son, Jon (Kayla) Meulemans and their son Harry and baby due May 2023; son, Zack (Linette) Meulemans and their children Isabelle, Liam, and Haiden; son, Joe (Annie) Meulemans and their daughter Margot; father-in-law, Dr. Willard Janssen, sister-in-law, Monica Meulemans; siblings: Ken (Lynn) Meulemans, Diane (Jerome) Schreiber, Joyce (Glenn) Hansen, and Jeff (Carol) Meulemans; in-laws: Angel Janssen (Reid Susmark), Beth Janssen (Paul Klein), Mark Janssen (Meg Doolan), Gil-Marie Janssen (Dan Carr), Jack (Jan) Janssen, Greg (Rosie) Janssen, Jo-Ellen (Bryan) Randolph and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Denny was preceded in death by his parents, Norbert and Cecelia Meulemans; mother-in-law, Mary Jo Janssen; brother, Vern Meulemans; sister, Donna Uitenbroek, and brother-in-law, Paul Uitenbroek.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 14, 2023 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at The Cross Church, 740 Grand Avenue, Schofield, WI 54476. Service will begin at 1:00 pm with a reception to follow.

Dolores V Kleinhans July 3, 1928 - July 19, 2023 Chilton, WI
Dolores V Kleinhans July 3, 1928 - July 19, 2023 Chilton, WI
Dolores "Dolly" V. Kleinhans, age 95, of Chilton, entered eternal life on July 19, 2023, at St. Paul Villa in Kaukauna. She was born on July 3, 1928, in Johnsburg, WI, daughter of the late Alfred and Josephine Loehr. On October 6, 1949, she married James Kleinhans and they had seven children. They lived in Plymouth, Jericho and Chilton where they made many lifelong friends.

Dolly was a storyteller, often sharing tales of her years growing up. She enjoyed her childhood and the time she spent with her family and friends at home in Johnsburg and at their cottage on Lake Winnebago. Her life was centered around family and belief in God. They prayed the rosary, on their knees, every night during Lent. They didn't have a telephone and listened to their favorite programs on the radio at night. Dolores recounted all the chores that needed to be done but cherished the time they spent working together. She passed that work ethic on to her children. Dolly attended Chilton High School. She became ill with St. Vitus Dance and spent a month in the hospital her senior year. Dolores was awarded her high school diploma in the hospital.

She felt her life really began when she had children - the rest was the foundation. Dolores always wanted a large family. Her life revolved around her family, her church, and her community. She was very involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s activities, including acting as a Boy Scout Den Mother and Camp Fire Girl leader. Dolly loved playing games, and spending time with her family and friends. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her great joy! She loved their visits, phone calls and cards and was always interested in hearing "what they were up to". Her faith and church community were very important to Dolores. She spent countless hours at the Good Shepherd Adoration Chapel, as well as participating in the Christian Mothers and D of I. She enjoyed giving back to her community through volunteering. St. Vincent de Paul, the Salvation Army, the Salvatorian Missions, Meals on Wheels, Leaven, and the Red Cross all benefited from her dedication. Dolly also worked at Calumet Memorial Hospital. She will be remembered most for her smile and infectious laughter when working or visiting with others.

Dolores is survived by her children: Robert (Kathy) Kleinhans of Pound, Charles (Susan) Kleinhans of Chilton, Janet (Patrick) Bailey of Reno, NV, Mary (Joseph) Kiefer of Suamico, Joseph (Ann) Kleinhans of McFarland, James (Mary) Kleinhans of Columbus, and John (Wendy) Kleinhans of Chilton; 23 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, James; her parents: Alfred and Jospehine (Gerhartz) Loehr; James’s parents: Clarence and Anna (Seichter) Kleinhans; a brother and his wife: Donald and Virginia Loehr; a sister-in-law and her husband: Polly and Maurus Meyer; her grandson: Nicholas Kleinhans; a step-granddaughter: Tisha Sterling; and a step-grandson: Justin Prochaska.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held to honor Dolores at 12:00 pm on Friday, August 4, 2023, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton. Friends may call from 10:00 am until 11:45 am at the church on the day of service. Guests are encouraged to wear red in honor of Dolores’s favorite color.

The Kleinhans family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and special friends at Uptown Commons in Chilton and St. Paul Villa in Kaukauna for their care, compassion and companionship in her last years.

Mom, you were such an inspiration to us. You loved us all for our unique personalities. You were our role-model, showing us how to be loving, strong, compassionate, empathetic and generous. You welcomed each in-law into our family and that gift was appreciated by all. We really cannot say enough good things about you. We will remember your words and do our darndest to live up to them: "Keep smiling, sing a lot and think good thoughts about everyone." We love you and will miss you so much!

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established and distributed to Dolores’s favorite charities.

Dominic J. Hall
August 23, 1989 ~ September 4, 2022 (age 33)
Dominic J. Hall August 23, 1989 ~ September 4, 2022 (age 33)
Dominic J. Hall, a Catholic man, answered God’s call home and peacefully passed September 4, 2022 surrounded by his loved ones.

Dom, 33, was a man among men. He was a loyal servant, a genuine friend, a compassionate son, and a steadfast brother. He persevered and excelled in all that he set forth to do. His calm, confident demeanor made everyone around him feel invincible and safe. With Dom by your side you could take on the world with ease.

Dom was born on August 23, 1989 to Joseph and Bonnie (Champeau) Hall in Fond du Lac. Brother to Desiree (Michael) Stockov (Hall) and Trevor (Whitney) Hall. Dom graduated from Xavier High School in 2008. During his high school years he heard the calling to join the service. Immediately following graduation he answered his calling by joining the United States Marine Corps.

He was united in marriage to Jacole, -The Love of His Life- Hall (Vande Hey) on December 27, 2014 and was a devoted Father to his two sons, Victor and Thorin (ages 4 and 2). Dom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer May 28, 2021, during his entire battle Dom remained humble, as the stoic masterpiece that he is and each day he would give up his sufferings to those oppressed, struggling with pregnancy, and for the sick to be healed. He would pray the rosary each day and felt a strong connection to the Blessed Mother Mary. “Something Beautiful is going to come from this, I just know it.” You could often hear him say.

Dom was a sworn Officer and SWAT member with the Appleton Police Department. During his time at Appleton Police Department he received the life saving award from Appleton Police Department for providing medical aid to a suicidal man. Prior to joining the Police Department Dom served in the United States Marine Corps for four years as a Force Reconnaissance Marine where completed a combat deployment to Afghanistan. He completed two deployments: one as a member of the 31st MEU and another as a member of Operations Enduring Freedom where he received Combat Action Ribbon and the Navy Achievement Medal with Valor. Dom left active duty in the Marine Corps and then served in the Ohio National Guard as a member of the 19th Special Forces Group, where he served as a Special Forces Weapons Sergeant where he once again completed a combat deployment to Afghanistan. During deployment with the Army he received a Bronze Star and the Combat Infantry Badge. He had a humbled boldness to him and was a true man of service.

Let us remember, “It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather, we should thank God such men lived.” George S. Patton

Donald J. Elrick
December 5, 1946 ~ July 2, 2022 (age 75)
Donald J. Elrick December 5, 1946 ~ July 2, 2022 (age 75)
Little Chute – At 75, with his family together, Don passed away after a short battle with lung cancer. Fighting and taking on the pain of cancer like only he could until our Mom and God called him to be together again on July 2, 2022. Near the end when one of the grandchildren visited, there was an extra bit of energy Dad would squeeze out. The grandkids were Don and Karen’s pride and joy. From football to concerts to dance to soccer to softball to basketball, Don and Karen rarely missed an event that any of them participated in. Don has been a member of St. John Nepomucene church in Little Chute.

Dad lived life the way he wanted. Some even would say rebellious in his younger years! He would lend a hand to anyone that needed help and he instilled a work ethic in his children that will live on in them and his grandchildren. Don worked hard from an early age delivering pizzas for his dad at Jack’s Pizza. He made lifelong friendships working for Don Hietpas & Sons. He was a welder and fabricator at Lee’s Welding and then part owner in Fox River Fabrication. He truly loved driving semi for Ray and Maggie Coenen at Coenen Transit and then for Dave Van Handel at Midwest Carriers until retirement. Joanne and I learned early that you flash your lights to let the semi know it is clear to merge back! He loved old muscle cars and was fortunate to find a Plymouth Satellite convertible to drive in recent years. There wasn’t a John Wayne movie he had not seen multiple times. Cowboy movies, tv car auctions, Blue Bloods, NCIS and reading were some things that got dad thru the days since mom’s passing. Don was a lifelong Chicago Bears fan. He instilled this in his children as well which included attending numerous games against their rival to the north.

Don was born on December 5, 1946 to John (Jack) and Irene Elrick. He and Karen were united in marriage on January 9, 1970 and they shared nearly 49 years together until her passing, raising a son, John and daughter, Joanne.

Don is survived by his children John (Jenny) of Little Chute, Joanne (Gregg) Michalski of Hobart. His five grandchildren: Brandon, Alyssa and Claire Elrick; Paige and Kendra Michalski. He is further survived by his brother Jeff (Connie) Elrick and sister Lynn Elrick, sisters-in-law Mary Elrick, Lynne (Jim) Milhaupt and Mary (Bob) Zuleger; numerous nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Karen, parents Jack and Irene Elrick and Karen’s parents Jim and Flave Belling (Jim Nagel), sister Pat Bundy and brother Bob Elrick.

The funeral service for Don will be held Friday, July 15, 2022 where family and friends are invited. Visitation from 3:00 – 5:00 with Christian burial mass to follow at St. John Church, 323 Pine Street, Little Chute with Father Ron Belitz officiating. Internment will take place in St. John Cemetery. All are welcome to gather at Village Limits, 1721 E. Main St., Little Chute after the service to honor Don with the celebration he wanted.

The family would like to thank the wonderful people at St. Paul Hospice. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Spierings Cancer Foundation/Rock Cancer or the memorial fund that was established for a scholarship in memory of Karen for Freedom High School. Donna J. Baerenwald October 13, 1932 — January 23, 2023 Appleton
Donna Baerenwald, age 90, passed quietly while resting on January 23, 2023. Donna was born in Appleton, on October 13, 1932, daughter of the late Raymond and Hilda (Heinz) Kunstman. As a young woman she worked a couple different jobs in town, and on August 30, 1952, married Harold Baerenwald; he preceded her in death in 2010.

Donna was a charter member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and a lifelong choir member. She was a stay-at-home mom and Girl Scout Leader for both of her daughters. An excellent seamstress, she sewed her own wedding dress as well as her daughter Karen’s. Donna was an avid Packer fan and never missed watching a game. She especially enjoyed camping and traveling with her family and her favorite hobby was going to flea markets, thrift shops, and yard sales. Donna will always be remembered for how selfless and warm-hearted she was.

Donna leaves behind two daughters: Ginger (Mitch) Kobussen and Karen (Tony) Zachowski; four grandchildren: Keri Kobussen, Kimberly Kobussen, Beau Zachowski, and Kaelyn Zachowski; and a sister-in-law: Marion Gruenstern.

Donna M. (Liebergen) Hameister October 6, 1942 ~ August 6, 2022 (age 79)
Donna M. (Liebergen) Hameister October 6, 1942 ~ August 6, 2022 (age 79)
Donna (Liebergen) Hameister, 79, passed away August 6, 2022 surrounded by her family. Donna was born on October 6, 1942 and grew up in Freedom, WI. She graduated from Freedom High School in 1960 and then married the love of her life, Jim Hameister, in 1963. They then moved to Appleton and shared 59 years together there.

Donna worked several different jobs throughout her life, with the last one being her favorite. She was able to take advantage of her green thumb and designing skills while working for Riverside Greenhouse. Donna was a woman of many talents. She was amazing with a sewing machine and knitting needle. She was able to design and make clothing for her granddaughter with special needs when clothing off the rack would not fit. She was also known for her chocolate chip cookies, desserts, and her cake decorating skills. About 20 years ago Jim purchased a Model A Ford and together they joined the Nickle A Region Model A Club. Donna may not have loved the cars as much as Jim, but she loved and cherished the friendships she made with people in the club. Typical of Donna, she was also the club’s Sunshine Lady. Like many Wisconsinites she was a very loyal Bucks, Badgers, and Packers fan. She enjoyed country music and the occasional polka. Jim and Donna took many family vacations when the kids were younger as well as later on. They ended up visiting 48 states and nine Canadian provinces. It was Donna’s wish that this obituary also include a thank you to medical staff who assisted her the last few years as well as the many great neighbors she had since moving to Appleton. In both cases there are just too many to mention by name. If there is perhaps one thing that personifies this wonderful woman it’s her selflessness. Even on her deathbed her last few thoughts and words were not about her struggles, but about her concern for her family. Donna was a lovely wife, mother, and friend.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents Eugene and Rosemary Liebergen; brothers Eugene Jr. and John; Father and mother in-law Ervin and Verna Hameister; and granddaughter Ella Hameister. Two spoiled poodles, Hershey and Midnight, also passed on before Donna. Survivors include her husband Jim; daughter Sue (Pat) Borree; son Joe (Ann) Hameister; grandson Josh (Laura) Borree; sisters Nancy (Ken) Van Den Heuvel, Darlene (Dennis) Woods; brother Mike (Donna) Liebergen; and brother and sister in-law Don and Donna Hameister.

The funeral mass for Donna will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 309 Desnoyer Street, Kaukauna. Visitation will be at church on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the mass. Donna wanted all in attendance to feel free to wear their favorite Packers and/or Model A attire at her celebration. For online condolences, please visit www.verkuilenfh.com.

In lie of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to St. Jude Children's Hospital and Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna in Donna's honor.

Doris J. Vanden Heuvel
December 7, 1926 ~ May 20, 2023
96 yrs Old
Doris J. Vanden Heuvel December 7, 1926 ~ May 20, 2023 96 yrs Old
In our loving arms, our mother, Doris J. Vanden Heuvel, age 96, passed away on May 20, 2023. Our sorrow is deep, but we are filled with immense gratitude for the many years we had with her. Even as her mind was failing, we never doubted that her faith and her love for us centered her life.

Doris was born on December 7, 1926, daughter of the late Martin and Jeanette (Hotchkiss) Lamers. She married the man “who made her laugh”, Richard D. Vanden Heuvel on May 5, 1951. Together they welcomed four children. When Mom was asked about us at her 90th birthday she responded “They are all nice kids”.

Doris was a homemaker for her family for many years until becoming the Little Chute Elementary School secretary, a position she enjoyed immensely. She loved traveling, gardening, knitting, golfing, and watching baseball and football (especially the Green Bay Packers).

Mom was an amazing friend. She lost her mother at age 18, and with no sisters, she formed a sisterhood of lifelong friends. The “Lucky Seven” as they called themselves were known to us as “the Club Ladies”. They met monthly for over 60 years and together shared the joys and sorrows of life. Today only Toddy and Dodo remain to tell us stories of our mom, and she joins Jane, Joyce, Rosella, and Betty in heaven.

Doris is survived by her children: Sara (Scott) Van Fuss, Ellen (Tom Trevarthen) Beltz, Scott (Ann) Vanden Heuvel and Julie (special friend, Bill Seering) Jansen; grandchildren: Matthew (Ellen) Beltz, Leah (Michael) Del Gaudio, Brooke (Scott) Beltz-White, Abby (special friend, Tony Radichel) Vanden Heuvel, Shea (Nick) Kitzman, Carly (Patrick) Tiedt, Tyler Jansen and Madalyn (Austin) Williams; great grandchildren: Natalie, Henry, Julian, Giada, Roman, George, Florence, Isaac, Isabel, Samuel, Annie, Brooks, Piper, Jackson, Oscar, Zoey and Mae; a sister-in-law, Mona Bouressa; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Vanden Heuvel; son-in-law, David Beltz; brothers: Robert, Jack (Kate), Mark (Audrey) and Tom (Dorothy) Lamers; in-laws: Jim Bouressa, Mildred (Frank) Hermsen, Martha (Ray) Heindel and Jule (Ted) Huiting.

Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, 411 Vandenbroek Street, Little Chute, with Msgr. Jim Vanden Hogen officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the Mass. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. For online condolences, please visit www.verkuilenfh.com.

The Vanden Heuvel family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers at Carolina Assisted Living, especially Merlyn Jackson, for caring for us as well as our mother for many years.

In lieu of flowers, to honor our mother, donations can be made to St John Nepomucene Parish in her memory.

We thought of you with love today, but that is nothing new. We thought about you yesterday, and the days before that too. We think of you in silence, we often speak your name. All we have are your memories and your picture in a frame. Your memory is our keepsake, with which we’ll never part. We give you to God for keeping, we have you in our heart.

Dorothy 'Dutch' (Vander Wielen) Thyssen
July 14, 2023
Dorothy "Dutch" (Vander Wielen) Thyssen July 14, 2023
Dorothy “Dutch” Thyssen, age 86, of Appleton, WI. left this world in the early morning hours of July 14, 2023. Dutch (Mom, Mumma, Grams), a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend passed peacefully in her sleep, after spending her final weeks surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Kimberly, WI to Peter and Agnes Vander Wielen, she was the last of 13 children. She spent her childhood in tomboy fashion, hanging with her brothers, fishing along the banks of the Fox River. She was a majorette, known for her love of twirling in parades down Kimberly Ave. In high school she began dating the handsome boy who was to become the love of her life. Ron Thyssen, the boy who rode his horse from his farm outside of town across the old bridge to Kimberly for a date, never stopped, over the 61 years of marriage they shared, to find ways to surprise her and show her how much he loved her. They were an “On Golden Pond” couple, soul mates throughout their life together.

They ran the Thyssen family farm until their retirement, where they spent their years wintering in South Texas, summers on Arbutus Lake in Pickerel, WI. But no matter where they were, their happiest moments were those spent gathering with their family and friends. They are survived by their girls, Karen (Pete) Dercks, Pickerel, WI, Kay (Mark) Bleier, Appleton, WI, Kim (Randy) Tisler, Freedom, WI, Kristy Erickson, Appleton, WI, 14 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. She is further survived by her brother Hank (Pearl) Vander Wielen, and her sisters-in law, Sally (Bob) Plath, Patt (Dan) Huss, Marjorie (Dave) Mau, and numerous nieces and nephews. She joined in death her loving husband, Ron, her parents and in-laws, brothers and sisters, and son-in-law Bruce Erickson.

Mom loved nothing more than her family, Spring, summer mornings, the cottage on Arbutus Lake, lilacs, tulips, geese in formation, golfing, the casino, fast-food, chocolate, poetry, a strumming guitar, the fawns and the birds she watched from her window, fields of dandelions, the smell of the river. Those of us who loved her so will forever see and feel her in these and so many other ways. We find comfort now as our hearts are filled with the knowing that Mom and Dad are back together where they are meant to be, celebrating a love that will last more than a lifetime.

Dutch, Mumma, Grams, Grammy, there was no one like you, for every one of us you have touched by your being, thank you for the gift of your generous love, we’re going to miss you beyond words.

A casual celebration of life for Dutch will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023, from 11am-1pm, at Givens Farm, N2828 Givens Rd, Hortonville, WI.

“Something told the wild goose it was time to fly, summer sun was on her wings, Ronald in her cry”
