Freedom - Nancy Ann Appleton, 78, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 6, 2021 at home, in the arms of her loving husband. She was the daughter of Myron and Lucina (Hartjes) Kerkhoff and was born on December 18, 1942 in Wrightstown, Wisconsin.

Nancy graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1961. It was there that she found the special people who became her group of lifelong best friends. It's also the time when she met and fell in love with her future husband. Nancy married her one true love, Daniel H. Appleton, on November 7, 1962. They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary just this past month.

After several years of being a supportive, loving wife and mother to her 2 children, Nancy re-entered the workforce. She raised horses and was a loving "mom" to the lucky dogs that became part of her family.

Most of all, Nancy was a social butterfly who loved spending time with people. She joined the Red Hat Society to expand her social circle, but it was the time spent with family and friends that she truly cherished. She especially adored children and could often be found with a baby in her arms or on the floor playing with her grandchildren. Those who knew her best will remember her for her quick wit, sassy and spirited personality, quirky sense of humor, ability to make anyone feel like a friend, and the way she could bring a smile and laugh to every day.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Daniel; daughters, Wendy (Paul) Schlueter and Julie (Kris) Maxwell; grandchildren, Ryan (Amber) Bowers and Amanda (Rick) Gasman; great grandchildren, Rosalie, Mila, Kensley, and Piper; siblings, Roger (Kathie) Kerkhoff and Gary (Ginger) Kerkhoff; step siblings, Larry Jandrey, Jr., Tim (Janine) Jandrey, Ronnie (Kaye) Jandrey, and Bruce Jandrey; sister-in-law, Betty Appleton; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Kaukauna - Peggy (Clark) Wildenberg, born July 23, 1926 passed away peacefully one day after her 95th birthday on July 24, 2021. Her only wish, to make her 95th and what a wonderful birthday it was. She was so happy surrounded by all the people who loved her and were able to tell her just how much she meant to us.

Peggy was born in Oak Park Illinois to Frank and Eleanor (Ferdon) Clark. She moved to Wisconsin in 1943. Graduated from St. John's High School in 1944 where she met and married her Dutchman, Merin Wildenberg. They married on Oct. 28, 1946 and had six wonderful children.

Joe (deceased) & Leanne Wildenberg, Mike & Gina Wildenberg, Sue & Merl Mantei, Kater & Steve Gaffney, Mark & Nancy Wildenberg and Carrie Bevers. Many special memories were shared with all her beautiful grandchildren, great grandchildren, and some great-great grandchildren.

Peggy was very talented, but her greatest talent was listening. She would stop everything, sit with you, and spend as much time as you needed to talk without judgement.

Peggy was clever, wise, and funny. She loved to read; she was a great singer. Her mind never stopped thinking and wondering. She asked me before she passed "How will the world survive without me in it?"

It will never be the same, mom, but your loving spirit will reside within us all, forever.

Our family is so grateful for the care and love all the staff at St Paul's provided her during her 5 odd years there. It was her home and you all were her second family. Our deepest thanks to all of you.

Rather than a funeral, there will be private celebration of her life (TBD).

Rodney John Holzschuh was born February 15, 1937, to Roman and Bernita (Mueller) Holzschuh and passed peacefully surrounded by his family on February 13, 2023, after a lingering illness.

Rodney was no stranger to hard work, having been raised on the family dairy farm, Holzschuh Farms. He often recalled seasons baling hay with hooks by hand, even as a boy, and the farm continued to play a central role in his children’s and grandchildren’s lives. He attended Sacred Heart School in Sherwood and Hilbert High School where he became a top-notch tuba player and graduated with the class of 1955. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted and served in the US Army Reserves in 1957, stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and Fort Carson, Colorado. Rodney joined Hoffer Glass Company as an estimator where he worked diligently for years concurrent with his military service. He was honorably discharged on November 13, 1963, having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant (E6). Rodney married his beloved, Rosemary Theresa Geiger on October 14, 1958, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Brillion, and in the nearly 65 years they were married, they raised six children together in Combined Locks. Through them, a large, loud, and loving family grew to include twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Rodney ultimately became president and co-owner of Hoffer Glass in 1983 and continued to dedicate his life to the company until his retirement in 2001. A man of great faith, and a pillar of his community, Rodney served as Trustee at St. Paul Catholic Church, Combined Locks for over 30 years and was a member of the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce. Rodney loved to polka dance and was a lifelong fan of Lawrence Welk. He was a friend to all and loved by so many, known for the nicknames he bestowed on friends and family alike and for his countless original one-liners and phrases, lovingly termed “Rodney-isms” by his family. He maintained a cheerful, optimistic spirit despite losing his sight 20 years ago which was deeply admirable, and he will be sincerely missed.

Rodney is preceded in death by his parents: Roman and Bernita (Mueller) Holzschuh; brother, George Holzschuh; granddaughter, Celine Groves; father and mother-in-law: Emery and Rose Geiger; and brother-in-law, Robert Drexler. He is survived by his loving wife, Rosemary Geiger Holzschuh who devotedly cared for him for many years; his brother, John (Joan) Holzschuh; sister-in-law, Jean Drexler; six children: Nancy (Kerry) Westervelt, Linda (Dennis) Groves, Sharon (Simon) Neicheril, James (Cathy) Holzschuh, John Holzschuh, Joel (Leanette) Holzschuh; and grandchildren: Jocelyn (Nick Iannotti) McQueen, Cecily (Sean) Groves Crawford, Sofia (Jeremy) Neicheril Anchondo, Colton (Kaity) Holzschuh, Hannah (Andrew) Holzschuh Miller, Claire Holzschuh, Samuel Neicheril, Elena Groves, Maya Neicheril, Julia Holzschuh, Elliott Groves; great grandchild, Emery Holzschuh; and niece and nephew: Tera Pagel Holzschuh and George Holzschuh.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 410 Wallace Street, Combined Locks, with full military rites as well as a celebration of life afterwards. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will continue until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Rodney’s memory to the charity of your choice to give back to the community in which you live.

The Holzschuh family would like to thank the staff at 5th floor Theda Clark, especially Ashley and Eric, as well as the staff at Aspire, especially Cara and Isaac, for their kindness, tenderness, and compassion.
