Laverne Miller- “Vernie”- Age 86, was welcomed into eternal life on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022, being greeted by her daughter, Mary, whose earthly birthday was Dec. 17. Vernie was born Sept. 22, 1936, in Little Chute, the middle child of Genevieve (Hietpas) and Barney Lamers. She grew up on Washington Street, as did so many of her relatives who supported each other, through good times and bad. Experiences where the whole family gathered after Sunday mass at her grandparents’ house to share a meal and conversation fostered Vernie’s emphasis on valuing family above all else. Vernie worked at Appleton Papers as a bookkeeper as well as a proofreader for Driessen Press. In 1955, Vernie met the love of her life, Ronald Miller, at a wedding he had crashed at the VFW and on Sept. 25, 1956, they were married at St. John’s in Little Chute. Over the 66 years of marriage, they raised seven children and started their own construction company, Miller Masonry, which is in its third generation of Miller family members. Even though Vernie was busy raising seven children, she managed to continue proof reading, was the primary bookkeeper for the business and never missed an opportunity to help at her kids’ school and attend school functions. When Vernie’s daughters hear from others that they are turning into their mother, they view it as a huge compliment. Anyone who knew Vernie, knew family came first. She was the kind of mom everyone wished to have and the best role model her kids could wish for. She was among the best creations God blessed us with. Summers at the Cloverleaf Lakes were a favorite for Vernie and her family. Many special memories were made at the cottage from fish fry’s to the annual tradition of putting in and taking out the dock, not to exclude her love for sunning on the dock while reading favorite books while watching the kids and grandkids swimming and skiing.
Vernie was known as an outgoing, caring person who loved to socialize with many people. She also met many friends while traveling on Nationwide Bus Tours. She loved her trip to Hawaii, as well as the excursion to Mexico with her daughters, which was a 50-year wedding anniversary gift from Ron.
Ron and Vernie were blessed with seven children: Kim Miller; Randy (Bridget) Miller; Gary (Lori) Miller; Sara Eslinger; Karla (Bill) Miller-Flynn; Mary (Bruce) Yaeger (deceased) and Sally (Joe) Miller Jaskolski.

Vernie is survived by her husband and six of her seven children, as well as grandchildren: Alisia, Justin, Joshua, Jared, Kyle, Karina, Micky, Kadie, Murphy, Jack, Kenzy, Nik, Casey, Jordan and seven great- grandchildren with one on the way; sisters-in-law: Mary Joan Miller, Myrna Miller, Jan Miller and brother-in-law Floyd Klister. She is further survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was blessed with the love of many close friendships. Vernie was preceded in death by her daughter: Mary; son-in-law: Ken Eslinger; her parents; Ron’s parents: Michael and Margaret Miller; sisters: Jeanne Klister and Mary Kraft; sisters-in-law: Elsie Knott, Lil Gerrits, Laverne “Lolly” Miller; brothers-in-law: Herb Miller, Adam Miller, Bill Miller, Mike Miller, Bob Gerrits, Dave Kobs and Nick Kraft.
Upon her wishes, cremation will take place and a private family gathering will be held at a later date. Vernie welcomes masses said in her memory. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or a charity of your choice. Condolences can be sent to Ron at P.O. Box 96, Kaukauna, WI, 54130. Verkuilen Van-Deurzen Family Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Dennis Merbach- Darboy, Age 76, born July 1946, died December of 2022, at Theda Care Hospital.
He was adopted by Walter F. Merbach and the former Harriett De Bruin, as an infant. They farmed in Calumet County outside Hilbert and on highways 10 and 55. Dennis worked at Apvion (Appleton Papers) over 40 years.
He married “Georgie” Trittin in 1995, and is survived by her as well as his step-son Bob Trittin of Kaukauna. Dennis had a love of spectator racing at WIR in his early years, and later could be spotted in the stands, until his leukemia made it impossible for him to step down to the top-level-of-chairs. He had many Apvion, WIR, Calumet County farming, as well as Darboy and Chilton friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by maternal aunts: Jeanette Wildenberg, Bernice Schmalz, Irma Johnson, Bernice DeBruin and Hattie DeBruin and all aunts with whom he maintained lifetime ties; also step-sons: David and Larry Trittin.

Friends are welcome to contact “Georgie,” to chat or share as Dennis wanted cremation, and really pushed for nothing else … like an obituary. As a tribute to Dennis, he’d love it if you: watched a race (TV or I.R.), watched The Voice, the CSIs, or late-nite talk-shows and thought of him while you watch. Special cousins were the Johnsons, of whom Mary Vite remains, along with ALL of his cousins who he did attempt to maintain contact over the years.

Judith St. Aubin - For God so loved the world that he gave us Judith Ann “Judy” (Wietor) St. Aubin, for she was truly a gift to those who knew and loved her. Judy passed on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2022, with her husband by her side. She was born to the late Leo and Norma (Hawig) Wietor on July 15, 1947, at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac. Judy was raised in Campbellsport before moving to West Bend for high school. She was involved in many activities in her youth, some of which include Brownies, cheerleading, and choir, and singing with “The History Minstrels” group for hootenannies. However, the most affectionately told stories of her childhood included playing neighborhood games, making go-carts, sledding, and ice skating. Her childhood was something out of a Norman Rockwell painting. She was happiest being with family and friends, her smile and hugs bringing joy to all those around her. Mom was a true caregiver and began college at UW-Oshkosh in the nursing program. At the beginning of her freshman year, she met the love of her life, Timothy Alan St. Aubin, who was singing and playing guitar at a college sponsored social. She loved music, so of course she was drawn to him. He was smitten with her as well, and they wed at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in West Bend, on July 13, 1968. After the devastating loss of her first pregnancy, they welcomed their son, Seth John, on Jan. 3, 1970, and later their daughter, Andrea Mae, on Oct. 8, 1973.
Throughout Mom’s life, her career spanned through many different areas, from school cook to being a planner at a paper mill, with many more in between. While she wished she would have finished nursing school, Mom gave each role she took on extreme dedication. Despite her many roles in life, Judy’s greatest job was “Mom:” we didn’t think for one minute that she didn’t love us with her whole heart. She was the neighborhood mom who taught us all the games that brought her so much joy in her own childhood. She loved baking, cooking, and canning, and enjoyed sharing it with family and friends. Her pies were the best. Yes, she loved her sweets! When you met her, she would hug you or put an arm around your shoulder. She was a close talker who oozed affection. You couldn’t get away without a hug and a kiss on the cheek.

She loved being a grandma and spent countless hours with her grandchildren, whether it was caregiving or watching and cheering them on, at all their activities. She loved games and playing cards; while she was competitive, she loved the quality time that it provided. Judy was the oldest of four children and was truly the big sister who made it a priority to spend time with family. Her love of sweets and cooking was the direct result of her loving mother, and her love of music and bowling, from her amazing father. Their passing was extremely hard for Judy. She often told her family that she had the best parents and how thankful she was for the amazing way that they raised their children. Judy developed dementia in the last few years, but it was limited to short term memory. She could vividly recall anything from her past, but it did grow increasingly difficult for her to accept her condition.

Judy is survived by her loving husband of 54 years: Tim; her son: Seth (Kelly Jo) St. Aubin, and her daughter Andrea (Bill) Schaller; and her grandchildren: Meradith and Natalie Schaller; Isaiah, Leo, and Eleonore St. Aubin; and Roen Strauch.
She is further survived by her siblings: Steve (Clarise) Wietor, Bob (Joy) Wietor, and Nancy (Mark) Scheffler; and her brothers-in-law: Don, Vern (Wendy), George, and Harry St. Aubin; along with many nieces and nephews. Judy was preceded in death by her parents: Leo and Norma Wietor; her parents-in-law: Robert and Virginia St. Aubin; and her brother-in-law: Bill St. Aubin.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022, at O’CONNELL FUNERAL HOME (1776 E. Main St., Little Chute) beginning at 5 p.m. until time of Funeral at 7:30 p.m. with Deacon Steve Vande Hey officiating. To sign the guest book, please visit oconnellfh.com.
