Don was born on September 28, 1933, to the late Oscar and Mayme (Van Gompel) Huss and grew up on the family farm in Freedom where he learned the value of hard work and dedication. He worked hard to provide for his family, spending 47 years at Thilmany Paper, without ever taking a sick day. But his work didn't stop there – around his shift schedules, he also unloaded rail cars in Little Chute for Freedom Lumber and drove school bus for Garvey's Bus Service in Freedom. Don was also a proud member of the Freedom Fire Department and was the last surviving charter member.

Despite his busy schedule, Don always made time for what truly mattered: his family. He met the love of his life, Elaine, at her father's feed mill and after much persistence, won her heart. They were married at St. Nicholas Church, Freedom, on September 28, 1954, where they were lifelong members. Together, they raised five children. Their home which was built on the farmland where Don grew up was the gathering place for all of the family events and celebrations.

Don was always on the move and never one to sit still. He could often be found tinkering around the yard, fixing things, and even repurposing items long before it was trendy. He took great pride in the property he and Elaine loved. He continued to mow his lawn himself until he was 87 years old! Don enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and grandsons, and always looked forward to the gatherings at the family cottage, “Punkin’s Pad” in Lakewood. He was a dedicated family man and loved attending his children’s or grandchildren's sporting events or school activities.

Don is survived by his children: Rick (Connie) Huss, Bill Huss, Terry (Rose) Huss, Mike (Jacci) Huss and Amy (Jay) Duca; grandchildren: Nick Huss, Tara (Jeremy) Hanson, Dave (Suzanne) Huss, Jared Huss, Allie Huss, Brandy (special friend, Jim) Testinie, Theresa (Greg) Janssen, Danny (special friend, Tracy) Culver, Dustin (Jena) Huss, Andrew (Jessica) Huss, Rebecca (special friend, Chase) Huss, Tristin Duca, Sydney Duca and Eli Duca; 19 great-grandchildren and one on the way; three great-great grandchildren; siblings: Ardena (Art) Retzlaff and Tom (Sue) Huss; sisters-in-law: Audrey Huss, Anna Mae Huss and Judith Vandenberg; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.

Ralph Paul Baumgart, age 85, of De Pere, who had a heart of gold, went into the arms of the Lord peacefully on Friday, January 6, 2023 with his family by his side. The son of Alouez and Mary Baumgart was born September 23, 1937 in De Pere. He was a great husband, father and grandpa. On November 22, 1958 he married the love of his life, Mary Ann Kramer at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in De Pere.

His catholic faith was extremely important to him. He and Mary Ann were members of St. Francis Xavier and St. Mary Parishes in De Pere. Together, Ralph and Mary Ann were devoted farmers. They had a great love for all animals and welcomed all new life on the farm. Ralph was a man who loved the land and all four seasons. There is a time to plant the fields, time to make hay, time to gather the crops and plow and time to renew and plan ahead for next year.

Dad always showed us how to have strength, compassion, sincere love for the land and what it provides us with. Dad taught all his children the important lessons in life about working hard, being honest and enjoying the simple times of life. One of his greatest accomplishments was raising cattle that sold in many different states and overseas. Dad never had trouble making friends. His kind and welcoming personality made it easy to love him. Everywhere he went someone knew him. Ralph treasured his new and life-long friends, as well as his neighbors. His smile always shined through listening and laughing at our conversations. One of his favorite sayings was: “You’re never dressed unless you have a smile on.”

Ralph is survived by his children: Terri & Gary Lasecki, Carolyn & Keith Rukamp, Sharon & Tom Davister, Mike & Lana Baumgart, Karen Baumgart and friend Randy; grandchildren, Nickolas & Josie Rukamp, Brent & Emily Rukamp, Melissa & Curt Walt, Alley Joski, Taylor Joski, Tiffany Joski, Brandy & Austin Bitter, Brad & Hannah Baumgart, Alex Baumgart, Amanda & Adam Brennan, Matt & Whitney Davister; 18 great-grandchildren; sister Evelyn Warpinski; sister-in-law Pat Baumgart; brother-in-law Jim Van Den Langenberg; nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Ralph is further survived by Jean (Larry) Gillis, Joe (Ellen) Kramer, and Pat (Nolan) Tebon. He will also be sadly missed by his dog, Brownie.

Ralph was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann; infant daughter Kathleen Marie; siblings: Phillip Baumgart, Gladys Van Den Langenberg, Clarence (Mary) Baumgart, Gale (Mildred) Fenlon; brother-in-law Francis Warpinski, and his step-family.

DE PERE – Ellen Ann (Cavil) Schuettpelz, 76, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 24, 2023 with her family by her side as she lost her acute battle with cancer. A former resident of Green Bay WI and Lena WI, she moved with her husband to the Town of Ledgeview near East De Pere in 2005 so they could be closer to their families.

Ellen was born in Green Bay WI on March 7, 1947, daughter of the late Roland “Rollie” and Gladys (Harteau) Cavil. Ellen was a965 graduate of De Pere High School. On May 5, 1973 she married Alvin “Al” Schuettpelz at Bethel Lutheran Church in Green Bay. They were able to spend over 50 very enjoyable, absolutely wonderful years together.

Ellen was a devoted wife and proud mom, grandma, great grandma and talented business person. She really enjoyed taking care of her two youngest granddaughters, Braleigh and Brightyn. They went to many school activities, parades, museums, playgrounds, beaches and other interesting tourist activities. Many, many times, their parents and her husband went with them.

She also loved to cook and having the families over at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Ceramics, crafts and working in her flower garden were also very enjoyable moments in her life, especially looking after the new varieties she planted every year.

While living in Lena, she worked 28 years as a multiline underwriter for Maple Valley Mutual Insurance Company. She also traveled to many large cities (some 3 to 4 times) all over the United States and Canada with her husband while attending conventions and other educational events of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC), Wisconsin Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (WAMIC) and Town Mutual Services, Inc. She was also a member of the Lena Women’s club serving as President for a year. She even found time to help her husband with the Lena Community Development Corporation (aka Lena Civic Club), the local business association in the Lena Area. In 1984, when her husband was President of this organization, she helped him organize and worked on the Committee that established the annual event for the Lena area known as the Lena Dairyfest with the first one being held on September 8,1985. When her husband served as Manager of this organization from 1989 to 2009, she helped him organize the annual banquets that honored many Lena area residents for all their contributions to the Lena area. She was also a member of the Lena American Legion Auxiliary for a number of years.

When her family moved to the East De Pere area, she was able to continue her work with the Brown County Fair Association that started back in 2002 and included 6 years as a member of their Board of Directors. During her 20 years of service with this organization, she was able to follow in her Father’s, Rollie Cavil, footsteps in regard to his talent and ability to put together flowers and plants to transition the Fair Grounds into a welcoming experience. She chaired the Beautification Committee during this process. She also led the Courtesy Car’s Driver Team, collected Coggins’ tests for the Rodeo and Horse Pulling Contestants and also worked at the entry gate to welcome and greet the contestants for the Tractor and Truck Pulls and Demo Derby. His time in the service brought him to both Germany and Rome where he saw the Pope. He retired from Schneider Transport after 40 years of service.

Jim was dedicated to his family who were so important to him. He loved a good game of cards and would play 24/7 if he could find the players. Hunting camp with Jimbo and the guys was never a dull moment. He enjoyed his family trips to Boulder Lake, numerous hunting excursions, traveling to California, and the Colorado River. He also enjoyed volleyball and booyah cookouts. He had a passion for walking in the mall, around De Pere, even petting a deer on one of his walks.

Survivors include his seven children, Dan (Sherry) Linskens, Karen (John) Erickson, Jeanne (Randy) Russell, Judy (Mike) Treml, David Linskens (Karla), Dale (Carol) Linskens, Shari Linskens, 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Bob, Jack, and Bill.

Karen retired but made taking care of Dad one of her priorities and Judy as well when she retired. Our family cannot thank you both enough for your selfless devotion to our Dad. Thank you to special caregiver Laura Peters, AKA: The Babysitter, you made our Dad smile every day. Our family will be forever grateful for your kindness, care, and compassion that you gave to him.

Nancy Lauer, 71, passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 25, 2023, surrounded by prayer and the love of her family and friends. She was born on March 16, 1952, in Appleton, the daughter of Jerome and Audrey (Bevers) Schmidt. Nancy was united in marriage to Dennis Lauer on June 14, 1974, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Hollandtown. Nancy will be remembered mostly for her love of her grandbabies and cherished family vacations. She strived to attend all her children and grandchildren’s events over the years. Nancy was the best supporter you could ever want. She was a second mother to many, serving grilled cheese sandwiches and listening endlessly. Nancy had a way of making anyone feel loved when she was around them. She was funny with a quick wit and good sense of humor; she needed it with our family.

Nancy is survived by her husband: Denny; 3 daughters: Laura (Larry Koch) Bell, Jenny (Nick) Brautigam, and Katie (Jon) Fuller; 10 grandchildren: Lexi, Tyler, Rylynn, Isaiah, Drew, Benjamin, Lukas, Fin, Soren, and Laynie; her siblings: Mike (Michelle), Dan (Ria), Karen (Pat), Barb, LuAnn (Mark), Steve (Robin), Bob (Janice), Amy (Jeff), and Lynn (Gary); brothers- and sisters-in-law: Marcia (Mike), Dave, Dick, Kathy, Karen (Dan), Lynn (Frank), Marybeth (Leon), Bob (Joannie), and Sara (Greg); many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and special friends.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; father- and mother-in-law: Art and Betty Lauer; a sister-in-law: Terry; and her best friend: Carol Sanderfoot.

Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at St. Katharine Drexel Parish, ST. FRANCIS SITE, 433 County Rd CE, Kaukauna. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, on Friday at the Wichmann Funeral Home, Tri-County Chapel, 1592 Oneida St., Menasha with a prayer service at 7:00 pm. There will always be an empty seat for you everywhere we go. Now go ride that white stallion in the clouds.
